Sony buying Bungie for $3.6 billion, Destiny 2 and future projects will remain multiplatform

If anything, this confirm us that Microsoft is pursuing exclusivity and total control of the IP, for those who believe that if there’s a possibility of making COD exclusive they will take it.

Word on the street that Sony will snatch Capcom next.

also, that MS isn’t going to Snooze mode this year either and will continue making deals.

I see Destiny being multiplatform but new IPs being PS/PC. But we’ll see. But overall I don’t see this as a “desperate move.” In fact most Xbox fans should support this because it now gives MS more reasons to acquire. I know this may sound messed up but I prefer MS/Sony to buy out the industry than outsiders like Facebook, Google, Tencent or Amazon.

Where?

At least the new ip of bungie won’t be exclusive due to contracts with netease. Later on, who knows

Khalif Adams and Jeff Grubb.

also, Colin Moriarty’s recent podcast title is “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet”. The dude is capping for “sOnY CoNsIlDaTiNg ThE iNdUsTrY” :joy:

None of the streets have predicted any of the acquisitions, so I’m gonna go with, Nah.

I was like you trying to see any loose words they might have used, but no, Jim Ryan actually said they will keep releasing on “rival consoles”

$85 billion spent on acquisitions this month alone by Take Two, MS and Sony.

from the response, I think some might have known about the Bungie one.

Bungie has been shopping for a buyer since Summer 2020 anyway.

Capcom might only sell with multiplatform and independence clauses which apparently Sony can be fine with now

WHO KNOWS ANYMORE

and on what basis do you say that?

Bungie has been known to hate exclusives and being ordered to do stuff.

Multiplatform as in both Xbox and Nintendo? Shit I’d hate to lose Capcom, especially now with MHW on Xbox. Capcom is public, right? So there should be no stopping MS to make a bid too, right?

Can’t imagine Phil wanting to lose RE and MH and obviously they can make a much higher bid.

Same with Capcom lol

Gonna take a look. Now I will say. Sony is probably doing all of this because they know MS cant really make any LARGE scale acquisitions until the AB deal is done.

So then it might be a Minecraft situation for them.

Wait, so is he doing what I think it is “if it’s consolidation then it might as well be Sony doing it”?

For Grubb, he didn’t say who was concerned, just he heard rumblings but he didn’t mention Sony. For Khalif, I haven’t listened.

Doesn’t stop them from having a nibble or two. The AB deal isn’t due to be done until next year, I just can’t see MS sitting there, watching other opportunities pass them by. Ditto for Apple, Tencent, Amazon etc.

Have to admit that this is smart strategy by Sony knowing that Microsoft can’t make any massive acquisitions. Sure, they could probably get a studio or two but not a publisher especially if it’s at the Activision level.
