Announcing after AB obviously smells desperation and seems cheap, it’s only normal.
I think he gave up on bashing Xbox with words. Now he’s going to pull this off, whatever it is.
Ironically even on pc is happening the opposite. The chromebook has been gaining market power on schools and for the people that doesn’t do a lot of stuff because they are cheaper, and while everyone that is a gamer agrees that playing in local hardware is better, as the acquisition continues playing what you used to play in a single device will be more and more complicated
and I thought Xbox got robbed with the Activision-Blizzard deal. at least they acquired a ton of workforce and some legendary IP…
still can’t understand how a single IP at the end of its lifecycle and a bunch of employees worth $3.6B?
Yet still not seeing how its “desperate.” Show has to Sony they are competitive to the shareholders. I think we are getting ahead of ourselves.
This is just a general question for the forum (and maybe even obvious), but do you think Playstation can stand up to the full might of a MS that’s fully behind Xbox?
They’re seeing this as Minecraft, hoping it will sell just as well. And they didn’t get robbed. Sure, it cost so much, but they did acquire couple of revenue juggernauts, including mobile. That’s going to benefit greatly.
.
Yeah, that ‘live services’ quote is making people elsewhere nervous. Sony had no choice, its the way this industry is going. The ‘games exclusive for this box only’ model is dead and MS have showed everyone that it works for both gamers and devs.
Bungie was acquired more so for getting Sony/PS into the FPS/MP/Live Service field and sharing their “knowledge” with other studios.
but it isn’t though.
Minecraft is literally virtual LEGO. you can do whatever you want with it. I remember when they bought Mojang I was like even if it costs $10B they will get it back. because the potential is obvious.
I do see the strategic value in the acquisition, but I don’t see it being worth THAT much. The expertise primarily seems to be the incentive but I feel they could gotten that elsewhere without spending ~8% of their own market cap.
No, they lost only one generation and that was the one against 360, an half hearted attempt by MS.
You should really see the latest HoegLaw’s video, he talks about the thinks you mention…and he doesn’t seem to share your opinion.
but they have a bunch of deals in place for those MPs. deviation games is one that comes to mind.
So will in the future all these independent studios be part of XGS and Sony, along with the big boys like EA, Ubi, TT, WB. Basically eventually none of them independent anymore? Because we know MS isn’t done, Sony isn’t either and there are only so many of those bigger studios and pubs.
I do wonder what that is going to mean for Nintendo. I can see Japanese studios and pubs demanding to stay multi for Nintendo, but Western ones?
Does deviation games has anything like Destiny? And those “deals” are no longer lucrative as any company can just swoop in and buy the company. Better to have a developer in house and share that tech.
It’s not desperate to respond to Xbox, rather desperate to keep it away from other big company. They bought it at a high price when Microsoft was offered less. It’s their way to get it quick before the price could go even higher.
Nintendo has more money than Sony in the bank, they will be fine doing their usual outdated things, they are like an island where time flows differently. XD
only time will tell, I am still adamant that Sony will walk backward on their word and make their future games exclusive. it just doesn’t make any sense to acquire them for that much hoping they’ll be a steady revenue stream with a game that’s at the end of its lifecycle.
