I’d be on that game like a fly on shit if it wasn’t so horrifically monetized. Despite what you’re seeing here they actually DO treat the IPs with some respect.
They even had a minigame where you can play 8-bit Castlevania as Sepia during an event…
The game is like a horny celebration of Konami IPs (though no Metal Gear… yet. I’d like a horny genderbent Raiden 
). But yeah I can’t agree with either A) paying to play per match or B) paying a monthly sub that costs more than Game Pass just to not have to pay per match.
Anyway this is getting severely off course for the thread. Basically I brought this up because the point is Konami is… well, still using their IPs.

Benji-Sales in general thinks that publisher wise, the next two likely to be acquired are Ubisoft and Square Enix but he never speculates as to who would buy them. Only that he believes that they’re the next two in line.
Plot twist. Ubisoft goes to Sony (because they want GAAS) and Square Enix goes to Xbox (because they want Japanese content and those Western studios)

Seems like safe guesses. Ubisoft is in much the same position as Activision, scandal ridden and in a stock slump with the easy option to bail with a golden parachute for ownership. Square Enix is struggling a bit too, I feel this is somewhat overblown but they’re certainly not doing as well as they could be. If there was any publishers I would guess to be bought up it’d be them.

Really hoping for Microsoft’s last publisher acquisition to be Ubisoft. I honestly don’t see them going past 3 especially at this massive level. Maybe a small AA/PC publisher like Paradox Interactive but I think acquiring AAA publishers is very close to being done. Like the saying goes, quit while you’re ahead.
I’m more of a Ubisoft guy than a Square Enix guy so definitely want Microsoft to acquire Ubisoft.
Sony can acquire Square Enix. I will even sacrifice Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal going to Sony instead of Microsoft as long as Microsoft gets Ubisoft.

Honestly I think if Ubisoft goes to anyone it’ll be someone other than Sony or Microsoft. Maybe Tencent will make a big move, or EA will buy them or they’ll get snapped up by Amazon. Which could go badly, but most likely I think they’ll remain multiplatform and business as usual for the most part.
As for Microsoft I personally think Square Enix would be the stronger move - giving them a solid foothold in Japan and bringing a huge catalogue of games to Xbox and gamepass that simply aren’t there right now. That said, I do get the slight feeling they could be the “very big” Sony acquisition that is getting talked up.

I don’t think any Japanese dev is buying into Sony’s “culture” especially those with strong public personalities.
In no way, shape or form do I want to see Ubisoft go to Amazon or Tencent. Really hope this never happens. Wouldn’t mind EA who I think are better than Take Two Interactive but overall, Microsoft would be my #1 choice followed by Sony.
I agree that Square Enix would be the stronger move for Microsoft over Ubisoft. I simply prefer Ubisoft and where the hell is Ubisoft+??? Coming soon my ass!!!
I do agree that Square Enix could be the big acquisition by Sony. Of course, I wonder what happens with Crystal Dynamics working on Perfect Dark if this was to actually happen.

I wonder if senators will write a letter regarding Sony + Ubisoft acquisition considering the issues with culture in SIE. But of course they won’t. Sony is a japanese company, Ubisoft is european

All of this. So very much. I will be heartbroken if Sony gets Ubisoft. It’s the one company that might make me get a PS5. Square Enix? Bah, they can have them. As much as I’m absolutely loving my time with Guardians of the Galaxy (would probably have been my GotY had I played it in time) I’d gladly forsake all of their future output in favour of more Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, Division, Rainbow Six, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Prince of Persia, and there’s probably more I’m forgetting.
Yeah, I know some of those franchises have their glory days behind them, but they’re all games I’ve absolutely LOVED in the past. And I can definitely see Xbox bring them back to greatness.
Oh, and let’s not forget about Avatar. It has potential to be fantastic.
Basically, for my money, Squenix doesn’t hold a candle to Ubisoft. Yeah, losing CD and Eidos would be sad, but that’s a price I’d be willing to pay twice over as long as Ubisoft don’t go Sony exclusive.
So yeah… If all this Activision nonsense cause Microsoft to have to take a backseat on acquisitions for a while, allowing Sony to scoop up Ubisoft, I’ll not be happy.
If it can’t be Microsoft, I hope you’re right. While I don’t have high hopes that Tencent or Amazon or Embracer would make the kind of turnaround at Ubisoft that I think Microsoft could, it’s miles better than Sony for me, as I assume all those players would keep the games multiplatform.
