If Amazon is really serious about gaming, picking up Ubisoft is a no brainer.
I would take this over it being the other way around. I doubt Sony will buy either though
KonamiâŚwhere is that dating sim
100% agree
Iâm not certain about Amazon and Ubisoft, because of the tiffs and fights France and the EU has had with Amazon over the years. It doesnt feel like that country has a positive view of the company. I just donât see Amazon as having enough goodwill going for it. Of course the viewpoint by Ubi ownership might be different, so who knows how it might go.
Even if EU does not like Amazon, it. does not mean they wonât allow it to pass. I mean MGM acquisition was able to proceed just fine with the note from EU regulators that ânothing of value was lostâ. And in gaming Amazon is nobody, so I donât think there would be any concerns if Amazon went after Ubisoft.
The main question is that whether it will validate the point regarding what Sony can afford.
Facebook, (Meta Platforms) is going to acquire stuff too.
Also another reason why I donât believe that Sony will acquire Ubisoft is because Ubisoft has Ubisoft+. Whatâs Sony gonna do with that? They are commited not to release their first parties day 1 in the subscription service, yet they will a subscription service that releases the games Day 1. And they cannot retire it either without some backlash - and they cannot upgrade it to PS+ Premium as they donât release day 1 games there. So the only option is to acquire it and keep independent until PS+ Premium will start getting Day 1 games eventually in the futureâŚThen add those 50+ studiosâŚ
Sounds like a mess to be honest.
Thatâs not what I was talking about at all. Iâm not talking about the EU or France regulators and review boards at all. I was saying in general I donât know how well the owners of Ubisoft or anyone on their board generally feels about Amazon because they are in a region, France, that generally doesnât like Amazon one bit. If the owners and board members donât care for a company, they likely wonât look upon their offers favorably.
The moment Sony launch an offer for Ubisoft, MS will enter and start a bidding war, which they will win. Sony buying Ubisoft ainât happening. Ubisoftâs shareholders are probably eagerly awaiting the Activision takeover to go through and hoping MS come in for them so they can make some coinage.
MS let Bungie go tho .
that doesnât matter though, the board legally has to work in favour of the shareholders so they couldnât reject the offer cos they donât like the company
Or hoping for another big tech like Amazon to look at them. But yeah, definitely, they are waiting for the big payout which is likely coming even if it ainât by microsoft.
the reason Microsoft didnât buy bungie was because they wanted indepenced while being acquired which MS didnât want. Bungie was honestly a great buy from Sony though
Donât think we can just apply this logic to every big acquisition. Microsoft being able to afford to outbid them doesnât mean they think itâs worth doing so
True. Anyway, the question at hand is what Sony is gonna acquire. People seem to believe that it is their favourite japanese company or T2 (as a response to ATVI).
In fact, what might happen is that nothing will happen.
If I had to guess, they will buy ember labs, sloclap and lucid games as they partnered with them recently on timed exclusives and they will acquire the other studios they are partnering with for live service games and maybe some more port and support studios. I think those are decently safe bets unless some of these just donât want to be acquired. I could also see Sony buying KADOKAWA which would in turn get them fromsoft and spike chun but thats a maybe situation
I think it is highly likely that they are gonna acquire Ember Labs. I mean - unlike Asobo for example - Kena is still not on Xbox. Maybe it was another 1 year or sometihng. Microsoft should really follow the same tactic as Sony - we literally have no idea when their time exclusive games are coming.
Sp potentially I can see Ember Labs, Lucid (they are making Twisted Metal right?). Also maybe Deviation? Similarly like with Haven.
Lucid made destruction all stars which was awful but they have experience with other publishers such as EA so destruction is likely a 1 off but they should be put on twisted meter.
The board are the majority shareholders.
No the board is voted in to represent the shareholders
Iâm basically the same. Ubisoft is my #1 publisher and developer as of 2022 while Square Enix is maybe in my top 10 if I was to think it through. Outside of Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal, Square Enix has basically nothing for me. Their Japanese games donât appeal to me all that much and as great as FF7R was, the last few hours were confusing story wise and who knows when the other episodes get released. By then, I wonât even care. Hell, two years later, I already donât even care. Hehe. I love Outriders that they published but they thankfully donât own People Can Fly no worries there.
As of now, I have 6 announced Ubisoft games that im interested in where as with SE, itâs just FFXVI and this can easily be dropped from my list.
I love majority of Ubisoftâs games. Not all of them but definitely the majority. Looking forward to seeing an Avatar blowout probably in June as im pretty certain Ubisoft will have their showcase around Summer Game Fest.
Rest, I agree completely on. Activision is literally non-existent for me outside of Diablo IV. They offer me basically nothing. I would have honestly preferred EA over them by far because as of now, I have 5 announced games from them where as again, with Activision, itâs one freaking game and I would prefer to buy 1 game over buying 5 games.
Only way I go with Sony for Ubisoft is because I do own PS5 and have zero interest in Apple, Amazon, etc. of the world so in this scenario, I easily choose Sony but otherwise, Microsoft 100%.
If this happens, Ubisoft is dead for me. Fucking Activision. Wish they never fucked up and in turn, Microsoft never acquired them and thus, could go after Ubisoft, WB or someone thatâs actually worth buying. At least for me anyway.
Acting like Activision wasnât worth buying is a joke, if you donât care for their IPs thats fine but Activision owns some of the biggest franchises in gaming such as Call of Duty, Diablo, Overwatch, World of Warcraft, Crash, Spyro, Candy Crush ect
Half of the board at Ubisoft are the Guillemots and they are the biggest shareholders by far. Nothing happens without them.
