Resident Evil Village OT

I just reached the third area last night and called it quits until later today. I would say im around halfway through the game. Loving a lot of the game. One gameplay issue I didn’t like was being “stalked” in the castle. I hate that shit. I just want to explore damn it!! Story wise, it’s fine. I’m not really playing RE 8 for the story. The antagonists though are strong. Ethan is meh and just too many things happen to where I can’t really suspend my disbelief anymore.

Overall, better than RE 7 for me but in no way, shape or form is this matching REmake2 for me. Playing RE 8 though does make me even more hyped for REmake4!!! Hehe.

Not interested in the game, but am curious: did they fix the controller issue I heard about?

I don’t think so.

It’s not that bad though, if you disable aim acceleration, auto-aim and bump up the sensitivity.

I had auto aim disabled because I didn’t want this to be too easy. Other than that I didn’t change anything and I had zero problems. Felt like RE7, RE2 or 3 remake to me. But my head adapts different aiming schemes quickly so maybe others experience this differently. For me it felt typically Resident Evilish.

I finished this game last night and really really liked it. I love the first person view and the village is an awesome map. I think it’s better than 7 overall.

And man, this game on an 4k OLED with headphones in the middle of the night is such a beautiful experience. Felt generally next gen to me. Also buttery smooth even with RT on Series X the whole game. Didn’t notice any slowdown. (My TV supports VRR)

Had no problems at all with controls (feel like I am getting fairly close to the end). Loving it so far.

Most of my complaints thus far are small quibbles (more optimization on Xbox versions would be nice, better RT reflections, a couple cringey/awkward lines, laughable motorboat physics, busted Quick Resume implementation tho it seemingly worked last night). Major gripe so far is that it seems like story is not integrated into the RE lore in a way longtime fans would want. Presentation value is sky high though (cinematography is GREAT, acting is GREAT, music is good, writing is solid mostly, story is wild and mysterious and interesting and paced real well).

Gameplay feels frantic at times of intense action and it nails the creepy factor and really takes players through the gamut of eerie, creepy, uncomfortable, nervous tension and even some scenes with nods to psychological thrillers. Level design from a gameplay pov is GREAT too. Hub world, but not fully open and has some strong metroidvania elements, lots of decent adventure elements and good puzzles that don’t slow pacing down. Combat feels good and intense and frantic, item management is more fleshed out than before thanks to the roaming shopkeep you can find throughout the game, lots of little secrets to find, a good map system to let players know when areas are fully searched too.

REALLY a super well designed game top to bottom so far here.

The further the story can get from old RE Lore the better. The whole Umbrella thing is played out and old hat. Keep doing different.

I just finished the second lord section last night. Also loving it so far.

Found that funny :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: :

That’s actually funny. I am at the point of going into Dimitrescu’s chambers and Ethan has already had a tough time lol.

Also, I don’t know if this has been mentioned already, but QR is now working in the game now.

Yep, back to no loading time :yum:

Wrapped up Resident Evil VIII: Village. Great game overall but the last third of the game didn’t interest me as much as the first two thirds of the game. Not a fan of the story or the conclusion.

  • Visuals - 10/10
  • Audio - 9.0/10
  • Gameplay - 8.0/10
  • Story - 7.0/10
  • Overall - 8.5/10

I just made it to the final segment of the game tonight. Ill finish it up tomorrow, but Im starting to feel about the same. Basically once you completed the altar everything after that has felt like a chore.

It’s amazing how the world changes as you progress through the story. It all started at night, then came a very foggy dawn and now the whole village feels so alive with the sun setting!

Agreed. Capcom did a few “new” things in the final third of the game and while they would be cool in general, for an RE game, I don’t think that it fits in well. But could just be me.

Agreed. The atmosphere and immersion is superb.

Finally finished the game. Fantastic experience overall but the final third indeed felt like a whole different game. The ending screen showed it took me 8 hours to complete the game, but the Xbox tracker says 11 hours – probably time spent on cutscenes, inventory and the pause menu don’t count.

Yeah, the Xbox tracker seems way off. The Xbox says 20 hours for me, my final play time was 11 hours (finding everything).

Absolute opposite for me, it got very stale continually playing a generic musclebound cop special forces type in the RE games. Made the Ethan character from 7 and 8 all the more refreshing. I played 6 when it came to Gold IIRC and the whole experience put me off even trying RE7 until it got to games pass where I was surprised how fresh and interesting it felt. revitalized the series for me so buying 8 was a no brainer.

Opposite for me, one of the things this game did so well was to keep constantly mixing up the style of game play, environment and horror to give a constantly changing mix. Much more interesting to me as a player. If that final section post alter had just been more of the standard slog to big standard RE boss fight it would have been a chore for me and made an interesting game less so.

I think Village is my 2nd favorite RE, right behind RE4 and in some ways feels like a spiritual reboot to that game. I love the atmosphere and setting in these games.

Felt the same. I felt pacing was among the best I’ve ever seen in a game, but the final primary section, which I loved like the others fwiw, felt the least RE out of all of them. The game seemed to cover a good variety of horror atmospheres and did all of them really well, but the castle area definitely felt the most like RE, so it’d maybe been better if they coulda ended on that one instead perhaps. The game design overall tho was incredibly good. I really appreciate replayable games these days too since everything seems more geared towards making single playthrus take dozens of hrs.

Honestly, after finishing it up, the only part I disliked is the Heisenberg area. Its not that it was bad, it just felt…super out of place. Once you are past that, it was good again.

This. The Heisenberg factory didn’t have the beautiful village atmosphere that I loved in the other lord Sections of the game, although the tight corridors of the factory made the game scarier, everything else from the monsters and atmosphere felt really bland.
