Resident Evil Village OT

I really liked the industrial/body horror style of the factory…level design was pretty good, atmosphere was decent and the new enemies were really cool in those tight spaces. Also got some RE4 Island vibes from this area which can only be a good thing in my book.

@Munki

I decided to continue the conversation here so any helpful discussion remains here future-proofed instead of the community thread…that is if anyone actually decided to play this great game instead of complaining about a disappointing E3 conference that we still haven’t seen yet. :stuck_out_tongue:

Really interesting stuff about the bonus DMG on Lycans of the Wolfsbane! I haven’t wasted any precious magnum ammo on anything else besides bosses so I didn’t really see any differences on the lycans with the Wolfsbane over STAKE. Now I am wondering if the first shotgun has a similar bonus as well…hmmm I’ll have to check this out tonight to be sure! :thinking:

Completed the game for 6th time last night. VoS difficulty (thank god for infinite ammo magnum, lol). Love how they almost tour the sub genres of horror. Only bad thing about the factor imho was it was easy to get lost in.

I already had the Wolfsbane, just unlocked infinite for the STAKE. So I can test it out for myself, but I’m too busy grinding out CP points.

How was VoS compared to Hardcore in terms of difficulty? And also which magnum did you use (Wolfsbane or S.T.A.K.E.)?

STAKE since fully upgraded the stats are better. Everything was one hit kill but taking any damage leaves you basically near death. Cost of health items skyrocketed too near the end (120k…yes, seriously). The last Lord boss fight was super tough, as was the final boss battle and the section in between. Res of the game was fairly easy though. Think it was about a 3-4 hr run.

Jus got Rocket Pistol. Only tested it briefly. Kinda underwhelming from how it seems to work but yet to hit any enemies with it so maybe on new playthru that will change, lol.

As I was speaking with @Fiendflag in the other thread.

By looking at the stats I thought the same about the STAKE being more powerful than the Wolfsbane, but I’ve watched a few videos and read some threads which state the contrary. Tests were pretty straight forward, both guns maxxed out against the same enemy to see how many shots it takes to take them down. What was interesting is that the Wolfsbane wins consistently against most enemies specifically lycan enemy types, apparently it has a 2x multiplier against them.

Have you guys tried the four Boss speed challenges?

Lady Killer: Defeat mutated Dimitrecu in under 2min 30secs. Hide and Seek Master: Defeat Angie in under 1min 30secs. Sashimi: Defeat mutated Moreau in under one min. Blitzkrieg: Defeat Heisenberg in under four mins.

I completed them all, to be honest they aren’t that difficult at all. Racken’ up them CP points!

Yeah but counting number of shots isn’t relevant if you have infinite ammo, DPS is. If I can fire 28 rounds with STAKE into a boss in the time it takes me to fire (making a number up here for sake of discussion), say, 12 using Wolfsbane, that 2x factor is way more than accommodated for already.

Meh, the majority of enemies (even one boss) are dead after one shot with both guns anyway. In the end they are pretty much equal, but I’m partial to the Wolfsbane because of the way it looks and sounds.

It does look cool. Was kinda disappointed with look of rocket pistol. Have yet to really use it really at all though. Maybe for run #7!

Yessir! I’m debating which gun to unlock now, grenade launcher or sniper. At this point it would just be to complete the challenges.

Υesterday I destroyed Urias at VoS with the Wolfsbane so yeah the bonus damage at the Lycans is definitely welcome, especially if you are playing with no infinite ammo it’s a game changer for certain bosses/combat scenarios. VoS is easy enough with playing on a NG+ save with the new/upgraded weapons and Duke’s recipes, having infinite ammo on top of that is an overkill. lol

Absolutely agree, I’m even willing to say that the multiplier extends to main bosses as I’ve been wrecking them with the Wolfsbane (time challenges are a breeze).

I wouldn’t want to attempt VoS wi/o infinite ammo myself. Seems way too hard! The last few boss fights in the game SUCK on VoS. :stuck_out_tongue:

LOVE how the game is built to encourage replayability. Once upon a time that was a central pillar of game design. Nowadays nobody seems to care about it.

Ha, you are trying real hard to justify your infatuation with Wolfsbane. lol

Lol, it’s facts! Just try it out for yourself and you will see that bosses melt against the Wolfsbae (not a typo). Do ittttttt!

I can kill em faster with STAKE tho since it fires faster and I won’t need to reload (7 bullets vs 28)! :stuck_out_tongue:

Rocket pistol might trump both. Maybe I will try that today actually. I do know rocket pistol reloads soooooo slow though.

I’ll definitely try it out on more bosses next run, it definitely made a big difference in the Urias fight though…this mofo has a LOT of HP at VoS and yesterday he died much earlier than I was expecting, it took me by surprise actually lol

@TavishHill

It really isn’t all that hard if you have upgraded Ethan’s health/block and know what you are doing and be ready resource wise for the biggest challenges. Seriously every weapon in the weapon sandbox has it’s role, is greatly balanced and all are useful af plus it’s always fun to manage your resources…all this with having infinite ammo goes away and it’s more than half of the fun IMO.

Totally agree about the importance of replay value, I love replaying games and having unlockables/challenges available after the first playthrough is always a big plus for me.

edit: Can’t wait to read your impressions on the Rocket Pistol. :stuck_out_tongue: :phil_lmao:

Yeah it depends on what kinda game mechanics you like to optimize for fun. I really enjoyed trying to streamline my speed run to get under 3 hrs, so that is where I’m coming from in that regard. I killed the boss ya noted the instant he hit the ground with STAKE btw. /throws shade

I will report back wrt rocket pistol here shortly. :slight_smile:

I think from a game design pov having those unlockables and whatnot was presented real well. I had no idea it was a thing playing thru the game the first time, so it was a cool surprise upon finishing it and made me instantly wanna replay it. It is kinda interesting since the whole game is about building up tension but the base game content loses a lot of that creepy atmosphere when you are doing new game + with buffs etc, so having challenges built in is really a neat side motivation for playing it again.

How fast were you guys able to complete your VoS run?
