Redfall Discussion Thread

Having a co-op game to dip in and out of in between marathon Starfield sessions probably isn’t the worse problem to have

Nice, where did these grabs come from?

Redfall seems like quite a wild card in Microsoft’s portfolio right now. I have this gut feeling that Arkane went with a looter while Bethesda was pivoting to trying their hands at more GAAS games while Arkane was struggling commercially with their single-player formula. Despite this, I still believe they could bring smart and unique game design elements to the genre. What’s a non-negotiable barrier to entry among looter fans is gunplay…an area Arkane is yet to be more than adequate in. I played a little of Death Loop and while its overall game-play loop and aesthetic were strong, the moment-to-moment action was just “fine” with poor AI and only adequate feeling shooting mechanics. With so many potential shooter teams to learn from and next-gen CPUs to leverage, I hope they take all the time necessary to ensure that they can nail the feel and combat loops. If Arkane can combine above-average gunplay with their game design, we could be looking at a potential big surprise franchise. There’s potential for this to be Arkane’s break-out and therefore would be fine…even happy to hear they’re delaying it beyond it’s originally targeted release date.

Agree completely. I’m much more interested and looking forward to Redfall than I am Starfield and since I am a fan of looter shooters, this one being like Borderlands but with Vampires sounds real good to me. As long as it can be fully played and enjoyed solo, I will be very happy. And of course, the gunplay and shooting mechanics need to be top notch. In fact, I wouldn’t mind if it’s just a pure shooter with no stealth or melee combat. In fact, im hoping it’s similar to Outriders in a way. Pure shooting but you have magic/abilities that replace the melee and stealth aspects.

Wouldn’t mind a delay to early 2023 as the Fall is going to be packed where as early 2023 will be much lighter and if Microsoft has nothing that can hit early 2023, im hoping this gets delayed. I also want the game to be ready and as good as possible at release.

With that said, I am hoping for a solid gameplay trailer in June at the Xbox Games Showcase. Can be 3-4 minutes. Just let me see the visuals, the world and the combat loop. Can give me a story trailer closer to release.

As someone who worked at an ad agency for more than 12 years, i refuse to believe that.

Its a good job I dont care what you believe. What a pointless comment to make.

Releasing Redfall before Starfield is a cast iron way to harm any word of mouth or momentum, as Starfield will take away any exposure the game receives.

Feb-May 2023 means the game picks up steam as the year progresses.

Depending on how the marketing for Starfield is done it can achieve Elden Ring effect sucking all the air around. And don’t forget COD MW is also coming in the autumn and it is also going to be big, very big due to it being much awaired Modern Warfare.

But then I just don’t get the logic of them announcing the release window last year, when they all were well aware of 11-11-22.

They might have not expected a delay and thought to release in august for example.

Exaaaaactly. Starfield could do to Redfall what Elden Ring has done to Horizon. Namely decapitate it lol.

There is also potentially GoW , but I am not sure if it is coming this year or not. 50/50.

There is also Gotham Knights and Forspoken but with Modern Warfare, Starfield and maybe GoW nobody gonna care at this point.

I never take vague launch periods seriously. I mean Redfall can still come out this year btw, however I think Summer 2022 was an estimate.

Agreed. I see September/October being a combination of Deathloop Xbox Series port, Age of Empires IV console port and Forza Motorsport with November being Starfield. Unless it’s August, I don’t really see where Redfall fits in until early 2023.

Could be at the time that they were thinking of late Summer 2022 and could also be a backup in case Starfield needed to be delayed. Could also be that they need more time than what they anticipated last June.

Add in Hogwarts Legacy, Avatar and Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order all potentially releasing in the Fall which will make this past February look empty.

Avatar? Ubi’s game? Not in a million years. We’ve yet to see actual gameplay too.

Hogwarts too is wait and see for me, just a release window of Holiday is not enough. Can easily see it move to 2023.

Avatar is definitely coming out this year. The movie is releasing in December and there’s no way they would miss the chance to put the game out alongside it. Ubisoft also said 2022 last summer and it’s been in development for a long time.

So many games don’t show gameplay until a few months before release, and yet we are still concerned about it? The classic marketing timeline is CG trailer 18 months before release and then gameplay 5 or 6 months before release. Why are we so worried about a lack of gameplay when Ubisoft will clearly have an Ubisoft Forward (maybe more than one) in the coming months to show off a lot of gameplay?

Edit: I’m not saying a delay is impossible, obviously, but I think the odds are in its favour and the lack of gameplay is NOT an indicator.

I find it funny that people think MS cares about spacing out their releases. They released Halo Infinite Multiplayer two weeks after Forza despite people claiming before hand they wouldn’t because it would hurt Forza. Microsoft releases games when they are ready and they won’t purposely delay a game when their 2022 line up has been barren thus far… if Redfall is ready for August it will release in August.

Agreed. Both Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite did amazing numbers despite releasing on top of each other.

Maybe Redfall won’t reach those heights, but it will still do fine/good releasing a month or two before Starfield.

Exactly. It’s not they are looking for boxed sales, Redfall will be played by millions just because of game pass and that already makes it a bigger success than any Arkane game before it.
