Redfall Discussion Thread

Oh, my mistake then. I had no idea this was so far along, interesting. I thought when they announced it it was one of those games that still had many years left for development.

Also didn’t know the movie was coming this year. Can’t say I’m hyped for it at all though. Avatar the game is not going to be like AC or FC, right? More like online with other players?

Yeah, The Avatar Project was announced as being in development by Ubisoft Massive around 2017, and then titled Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and dated for 2022 at last summer’s Ubisoft Forward. I believe the trailer was actually in-engine. Also, Disney seeing Massive’s work on Avatar is what convinced them to let Massive make a Star Wars game (which is obviously really far off).

We don’t know too much about the game, but they’ve called it a “first person, action-adventure game” and I’m pretty sure it’s exclusively singleplayer. I guess there could be optional co-op but there’s been no indication of that so far.

Oh I see, I could swear I saw people on the Internet saying it was looking like a online game, that they saw other players. But I guess those could be NPCs too of course.

I’m not too hyped about it, Ubi needs a change in formula for me.

We heard how Halo would break Forza Horizon’s momentum and it really hasn’t. FH5 still remains one of the topmost played games on Xbox. SoT has a major spike every year. I believe Game Pass changes the landscape of this stuff. Consumer behavior is different. Launch windows aren’t the end-all anymore. The best case for Redfall IMO is that it launches before Starfield while energy and excitement in the Xbox ecosystem are high. It serves as the opening act. Even if people leave it for a bit, it’s an entirely different genre. It’s more important that it finds an audience in general. If it loses that same audience for a little bit, that’s not a bad thing. Game Pass, like other subs, will thrive most on momentum…when hits aren’t too spaced out. Those peaks in mindshare will drive subs more than muted consistency.

That said as I said earlier, I would be happy if I heard it was delayed if it could use more time for polish. A crowded Fall for Game Pass would be good for the service and rise the tide for all the games to benefit from but what’s most important is that these games are as good as they can be. Especially a new IP. Won’t get the benefit of the doubt to be polished up down the road.

Both of those games cater to two completely different audiences. There’s obviously some crossover but one is a racer and the other is a shooter. Apples to oranges. If they released say, Gears and Halo weeks apart that would make a little bit more sense.

I don’t think Hindle is wrong in saying Starfield will cut into Redfall.

Forza and Halo Infinite did end up harming each other in terms of sales (more so Halo bearing the brunt of it rather than Forza) but the beauty of gamepass is that it can offset that by making the games extremely accessible via a subscription.

It might not have legs in terms of sales but it’ll easily be Arkane’s most played game whether it releases near Starfield or not.

Forza and Halo did not harm each other’s sales. LOL

Sure but how are Redfall and Starfield remotely similar?

I mean, Halo’s sales fell off a cliff after the first 2 weeks.

It that more so Gamepass being a factor or be squeezed between a lot of popular games ? Idk.

Avatar is 100% in my opinion for the simple fact that Ubisoft has nothing else major releasing until 2023 plus as others have said, the movie releases in December. Expect a lot of gameplay when Ubisoft has their own showcase this summer. My guess is June. Probably 15 or so minutes and then a deep dive after their showcase like they did in 2020 with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

WB is going to make a killing with Hogwarts Legacy this Fall/Holiday. I know that some think it’s getting delayed. I don’t. I believe that it releases 100% in November before Black Weekend.

The games that I believe are most likely to get delayed is God of War Ragnarok, Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order 2 and Redfall. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Forspoken to get delayed to 2023 just so it can get the hell of the Fall.

I agree with this. I just don’t believe that it will be ready and if it is a looter shooter like Borderlands and there’s plans to have post launch content, it all needs to be ready before release because if there’s a gap like Halo Infinite has had, this game will get buried and I prefer it to not get buried.

Either way, once we go through the month of June, everything should be a lot clearer and the Fall/Holiday releases should be set.

I hope the story and lore is deep. This universe sounds so cool, I want to know everything.

I remember this leak. It came out around a month ago but Bethesda quickly scrubbed it from the internet before it spread.

Its from a September 2021 build of the game. The play tester sent the footage to a Spanish-language podcaster who relayed the leak. I suspect its the same test session as the leak from last year.

Halo and Forza appeal to different audiences. The best example I have is Elden Ring and Horizon. Sony made a huge mistake releasing in the same period, as the latter got its momentum and mindshare destroyed.

I personally think the Forza/Halo MP comparison is a bit flawed. If Microsoft spaces out games, it’d be to retain Game Pass subscribers. Halo MP was F2P so it wasn’t an issue. I fully expect Microsoft to try to keep their big games at least one month apart.

Releasing alongside Forza compliments games like Halo or Starfield.

However for Redfall, Starfield will take away any momentum the game has as its what the gaming world will be all about.

Netflix releases multiple films and tv series on a weekly basis, all to bolster the value proposition of their sub. Thats how the subscription model works.

I don’t expect Xbox to release multiple games on the same day but spread out over a few weeks or a couple of months? There’s no issue there whatsoever.

Oh good, I see this thread has become the antiquated release spacing argument hub. Time to stop following this thread untl Redfall has some actual news to talk about

That’s the real downside to the lack of information about these titles, the same old arguments return again and again. I know that I’ll still read every regurgitated take that gets posted here though, but that’s on me.

Not sure how these are even comparable. Aside from the vast differences in how gaming is consumed compared to other media it doesn’t even align with the comparison of Xbox first party games releasing near each other.

No one has a problem if Xbox wants to throw a ton of smaller indie, AA, and third party games in the same few weeks… however what you’re saying is Netflix releasing massive shows like Stranger Things Season 4, Squid Game Season 2, The Witcher Season 2, Arcane Season 2 all near each other by a few weeks. They obviously don’t do that. When you say “Netflix releases multiple films and tv series on a weekly bias”, these are usually cheaper, smaller series… which Game Pass already does with indies, AA, third party games. Netflix would never release massive series and films near each other, just like Xbox shouldn’t.

I think a general rule of thumb is Xbox will try to space out games to at least a month in between them to an extra month of subscription money. Will there be exceptions, like maybe Deathloop Xbox port releasing in the same month as Forza or Redfall? Or Josh Sawyer’s short game maybe getting thrown in with another big game? Of course but I think these will just be exceptions. Xbox will use third party games to fill any holes they create but first party games are their “new Stranger Things season” that will be given their own marketing window and given space from other big first party titles just like Netflix or any streaming service does.

If Redfall has 2-3 months before Starfield that’s completely fine.
