Microsoft seems like a big mess when it comes to exclusivity.
It’s not without reason that people don’t trust when they say that some game is exclusive.
Sony and Nintendo are much more straightforward with exclusives.

There’s a bunch of unfair assumptions in this thread of course it won’t be the same case for everyone, but you can clearly tell it’s the case for some.
We don’t know what will happen and that’s fair, but we have precedent to imagine the future, Sony stopping moneyhatting would be completely new, so it’s also fair to expect it for them to continue their practices.
I’ll wait and see, but I don’t expect any change from the Sony side of things, after all it’s ingrained in their business model since forever.
Jim Ryan is bringing games to PC, said they want to be multi platform, making a game pass ‘competitor’ after saying they can’t do it. There is a lot of change already at Sony.
The only truth in this thread is that
“Gamepass is the best gaming service in the world”
Rest is just confusion, disappointment and utter nonsense
I thought Sony x Bungie acquisition was odd but Microsoft x ABK said hold my beer.
This seems very silly.
Hey now we don’t have to worry about a monopoly anymore
Playstation players are losing every single Bethesda game. Also, the company now has an 80+ team first party between in house and game publishing deals. They may lose some 3rd party but their first party now dwarfs Nintendo and sony combined 3 times over.
“We don’t need to make concessions for regulators—because we’re conceding from the get-go.”
I do think new games go exclusive. I was adamant that COD would be locked down, but it realistically was a coin toss. Announced games for other platforms were always going to ship there. I’m just tired of yet another multi-year process to get to those exclusives.
Still waiting on the 2018 acquisitions to bare fruit, still waiting on ZeniMax, will be waiting for some time on ActiBliz.
Well, if you want to… actually engage in the discussion, take those engaging in “console wars” to task…
Accusing me of being defensive and making blank statements while you accuse people of engaging in console wars is rather ironic don’t you think…
PS fans have also lost access to Ninja Theory, Obsidian, and Bethesda games. Games that tend to align with their preferences and do well on PS. They’re not gonna play sequels to games they loved like Hellblade 2, TEW3, Wolfenst 3 on PS5 now.
It’s not a MESS it’s just every situation is different and people are WAY to eager to try and get set in stone statements even before a deal like this closes.
Minecraft, Multiple 3rd party studio purchases from 2018-2020 (Compulsion, Obisidan, Ninja Theory etc), Bethesda, Activision/Blizzard
These are all vastly different types of purchases with many different types of games and IP’s included and MS execs have decided each one is handled in a way they feel most benefits the company.
It’s not that big a deal and not that hard to understand
Yall know what he meant man. Not first party content the fucking money hats. Where tf is my final fantasy 7 and persona 5
Wtf…Please tell me that Phil forced Sony to port Spiderman games to Xbox in the future? This feels like a robbery on a sunny day
lol
I am surprised they are doing that with Blizzard’s games too. Shocked, actually. Will be interesting as an experiment to see how much they can gain by leveraging things other than full platform exclusivity (i.e. by doing stuff like timed content, free DLC as GPU perks, exclusive betas, control over the marketing and ofc GP day 1).
You say it isn’t a concession based on what? We know from the Zenimax decision making that the math works out to favor exclusivity even on the huge IP’s. Not sure the math would be different here, so if they are doing this coupled with the info form the congressman’s comments it suggests this was something MS conceded. I doubt they would have preferred keeping the big guns multiplat if they didn’t feel like they have to.
Moneyhats only happen (in this number) when you are perceived weak by competitors, publishers and even consumers and if they won’t stop even after acquiring the biggest possible leverage in existence, IDK, what should I think? It’s already bad they let all those games go away for who knows how long and many others are incoming.
Game Pass was never in the equation for casuals who buy one yearly COD. However, having a $299 console that can play COD absolutely is. We haven’t seen the switch yet, but once COD makes the jump to current gen only (believed to be in 2023) with COD 2023/Warzone 2, casuals will be forced to buy a new console. A $299 Series S / COD bundle would be enough to move these people over.
Hope Sony will be just as giving when they buy Capcom/Square-Enix.
Xbox will never have every single game on their platform, just like Sony will never have every game on their platform. I guarentee you losing out on every studio Xbox acquired stings a hell of a lot more than Sony moneyhatting 1 or 2 games a year.
Super disapointed in xbox right now as a fan. I know a lot of people say oh xbox is makeing money. I dont care how much money sony or xbox make. Its cool all these games are comming to game pass but as a whole it devalues xbox again. It wont change what sony does. all because phil wants to be a nice guy. F that. Im calling it now by the end of the Gen Gamepass will be on playstation and it wont be streaming. It wlll be native ports because you know… why not xbox
