I won’t stand for your disrespect of Golden Abyss.
Golden Abyss was pretty good! Fun implementation of gyro aiming.
Would you like to make a friendly wager/bet on Sony not having another showcase this generation? I don’t believe that they will have another this year but I do believe that they will have a PlayStation Showcase in 2024.
As for their showcase this year, it was disappointing and underwhelming but is it truly a big deal in the grand scheme of things? Nope. It’s like saying Redfall releasing at a subpar 60 rated game is a big deal and will affect Microsoft and Xbox when in reality, it’s like a scratch on a car that no one will remember or care about a few months later.
As for not having the games or studios, if that was true, I wouldn’t have at least 10 games future wise -
- Marvel’s Spider Man 2
- Stellar Blade
- Rise of the Ronin
- Lost Soul Aside
- Bend Studio new IP (has multi-player but as long as it’s separate, im good)
- Ghost of Tsushima 2 (has legends multi-player mode but if the campaign is as excellent as the first game was for me, no issues whatsoever)
- Marvel’s Wolverine
- The Last of Us Part III
- Cory Barlog’s new IP
- Horizon 3 (Guerrilla)
And the above is just for me personally that I know of or has already been announced. I’m sorry but you’re wrong bud. You saying the stuff you said is like all those other people saying stuff about Xbox despite the fact that they’re wrong too. lol
I can agree with this in general but for me personally, I already knew that shit was coming. Didn’t think that it would all be shown on the same showcase (lol) but I knew that eventually that they would be showed.
For me personally, im happy that Factions is having issues because I don’t want Naughty Dog (or the other 5 studios I care about) wasting time on these live service multi-player games but for say Deviation Games that Sony doesn’t own, then im disappointed that their game was cancelled because the better the external studios do with live service games, the better it will be for me because the main core studios I care about have a far greater chance of staying away from live service multi-player games.
Agreed. I am hoping for some third party reveals. Maybe Ubisoft’s Star Wars game. If they plan on showing it at Ubisoft Forward the next day, maybe a teaser at the Xbox Showcase.
What we can get from your post is that each Sony studio is entitled to one game through the generation (except Insomniac ) and this is a clear departure from the 4 games Naughty Dog was doing each generation before.
My solution for Sony and their studios, which will undoubtedly be unpopular, would be to simply make smaller games. For me, The Last of Us doesn’t need to be a 30-40 hour experience. I would be much more likely to finish TLoU 1 and 2 if they were 12 hours long. Tell Naughty Dog to cut their games in half and they could have two games. It’s science!
I’m partially joking, but I do think the answer is smaller scope on their big titles. I can’t imagine their hardcore fans complaining about a 12-15 hour Naughty Dog experience every 2-3 years vs a 30+ hour experience every 4-5.
They can’t. They are trapped in their AAA big budget narrative.
They totally can. The biggest complaint I hear from fans of Naughty Dog is that their games drag on way too long. Give people a big budget game that’s great and they won’t care how many hours it is. Besides, the hardcore Sony fans will just accept it like they do everything else.
Live by the Sad Dad 3rd person walking sim, Die by the Sad Dad 3rd person walking sim.
Live and Let Dad.
At this point it’s likely that Sony has no first party SP game for 2024, barring a remake or expansion. I can’t recall the last time sony put out a full, new title that wasn’t announced at least a year before
Still waiting on the two dozen “Sony Studios in disarray” articles we would have already seen if this were Xbox…
Turns out, I was right about Sony’s show and the media reaction to how lackluster it was. From a showcase standpoint, I still say it was fine, but given that it was a platform holder’s showcase meant to primarily highlight first-party content, it’s easy to argue that it was one of Sony’s worst showings in years. Sure, this is from someone who thinks they’ve had more stumbles than most will admit over the last few years; “we believe in generations” to falsely convince gamers they had to buy a new console… in the height of a global pandemic, sure as hell seems like a miss that’s not criticized enough. I digress though, and ultimately I think this hits the point home I’ve been saying for years: Sony’s repeating its PS4 playbook - buy a bunch of third party exclusives to mask that the current release cadence for its first parties is unsustainable.
I feel like Death Stranding 2 is pretty close. They’ll also (likely) be able to lean on FF7R2.
Neither are first party games
Square is as close as you can get from being 1st party now.
Death Stranding 2 is, but I don’t think first party or third matters to most as long as they are exclusives.
i must’ve missed sony buying kojima productions
Games published by Sony are considered first party
Yep. Games published by Sony just like with Microsoft ARE first party games. For example, Death Stranding 2, Rise of the Ronin, Flight Simulator, Contraband, etc.
Oh yeah, Rise of the Ronin is slated for 2024 too. So if Sony is targeting 2 AAA games per year…
Yeah, my 2024 projected lineup for Sony is stacked -
- Rise of the Ronin
- Stellar Blade (I know it’s scheduled for 2023 but I believe that it’s been delayed to 2024)
- Marvel’s Wolverine (I know people believe it could be delayed and yeah, it could, but it’s Insomniac so I believe that it will be November 2024)
- Lost Soul Aside (need to see more but it’s still (lol) on my list)
As my secondary gaming console, as long as I average 2 first party games a year, I’ll be happy.
