To use a poker analogy, PlayStation showed their hand, and they were bluffing.
I really don’t see PlayStation holding a “showcase” for the rest of the PS5 generation. How is that not a big deal? They simply don’t have the content or studios. Games take longer to make with bigger budgets and Sony hasn’t planned properly. They coasted because console sales were high and now that negligence is showing. They need to get bigger to make up for longer development times. Sure they can have 3 small directs a year but that panics PlayStation fans when they realize the era of PlayStation showcases are now dead. Tell me I’m wrong
I do not like the fact that Sony 1st party studios are struggling. it only means that Sony will rely more on 3rd party exclusivity to compensate, and this is bad.
I’ll say this. I believe what really added up more to their doom and gloom is the announced titles are GaaS titles, which the fans were trained to despise. Now fans can expect more update on titles they don’t care and when the one they want arrives, it begins with CGI. In other words, the actual waiting for the single player titles they adore is on hold.
True, PlayStation fans are panicking about games as service direction. But that’s only because they haven’t realized “showcases” are dead. The general sentiment is hoping for the “next showcase” to be better or ‘it was only one bad showcase, stop over reacting’ but that isn’t understanding the dire situation fully.
There is no next showcase. PlayStation will give a small direct every 4-6 months. The small directs will focus on 1 AAA game. PlayStation’s days of big showcases are a thing of the past.
Yeah, I’ve realized that once @CallMeCraig said how can we confirm a random account. I swear I’ve seen this person posted often, but I guess since it was positive Sony news people claimed they were valid. Anyways, yeah it’s best to take what accounts like this say with a grain of salt
she is a nobody. the only thing she ‘leaked’ was wolverine but that was a ‘safe’ bet with Insomniac after Spiderman being a big hit for the platform. she said that there would be a 'babysiting ’ documentary for Ragnarok similar with the original. only for a dev confirming that it was all BS.
This showcase demonstrated to me that Sony is worried about future probes into their third party exclusive practices.
Sony normally puts that PlayStation exclusive branding out their to promote the fact that its exclusive. We didnt see that in this showcase, and nor did we see many third party exclusives at all.
We know Sony has a ton of third party exclusives in the works, and they normally put them out there for everyone to see, but we didnt see them at all ready.
That’s a fair point. I noticed the lack of exclusive prompt, whether it’s launch or full exclusive. It felt like they went backwards, like they’re acting like PS5 is about to launch. It’s odd. What’s crazy is they recently acquired Haven and Firewalk and they were present in the showcase. The thought of acquiring them just before the showcase made me wonder what would be like if they didn’t. It would have been less than 5 first party game at the show. That’s wild.
Biggest complaints I’ve seen about the showcase were the lack of truly interesting first party games, except Spidey 2. They did have several announcements from first party but it was GaaS and CG. And while there were several AAA multiplatform titles too, a lot of indies as well.
Assuming that Xbox doesn’t have a lot of marketing deals for AAA multiplats and that they are going for a (mostly) Game Pass show there probably are gonna be even more indie titles here and not many AAA multiplats, that is my expectation. But the big difference with Sony probably is first party presence will be more and better here.
But I am hoping Xbox actually does have some AAA multiplats announced, it’s good for the variety. Last year we did have Diablo 4, and I think we can see Wo Long as AAA too.
i dont follow news like i did, is there anything substantial to support these claims or is it guesswork?
I did a google and found nothing, plus ive heard so many rumours as to what bend are working on next, from a Men in Black game to a spiritual successor to syphon filter
we’ve heard whispers and murmurs, same as how IO was allegedly working on an xbox exclusive, a wu tang gaas game, and countless other rumoured third party projects, the only one that has been remotely confirmed is Kojima’s project, which we still know zero about
sadly it does sound like a ‘sony are making us work on a gaas game because your last game wasnt successful enough’ situation, which is a shame because days gone was their first major project in a long time since probably the syphon filter days and if they were allowed to keep following that path, they could have been up their with sonys other major single player studios
