Reposting a shorter post because I may have been rambling a bit in the last one :
I think it wasn’t as bad of a show as people say online. I really liked their show actually. But I think it wasn’t a show for Sony fans, because there wasn’t enough exclusive games.
That’s why they took offense when Xbox posted that image with the multiplatform games right after the show, because the whole showcase was crumbling in front of their eyes.
They wanted a show that justifies owning a PS5. They wanted games or experiences that you can’t find anywhere else. So yeah, with that mindset, of course fans are disappointed.
Those who don’t care about console wars or exclusivity deals were more than happy it seems, as there was a lot to love in there, like finally seeing Dragon’s Dogma 2, Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Marathon…
But all these games will be as enjoyable elsewhere, whereas fans were told that the showcase would demolish anything Xbox would be showing. And the insane rumors of exclusivity deals just ruined it for them and that’s kind of pathetic to think about, even though, most people were pretty happy about the showcase overall.
I don’t necessarily think it’s just blind fanboyism from Sony fans which is clouding their judgement, i.e. I think the list of games shown was pretty dire full stop (GAAS overload was vomit worthy for a 550 euro console which will be 3 years old in November). Even the list of multiplats was absolutely nothing to rave about.
Take Assassin’s Creed Mirage for example: I’m old enough to say I was there day one for Ass Creed 1 back in the day. And you know what? It was a very polarizing, almost unpopular title which got hammered pretty hard for being a bit of a disappointment. It’s only when Ass Creed 2 released with Ezio & all the cool toys he had & Italian locations which made people fall in love with the series.
So when I read about a ‘return to the roots of the franchise’, I’m bit a perplexed tbh because those ‘roots’ weren’t very popular at the time. Eavesdropping, trailing marks, assassinating targets, collecting flags, the samey locations… got redundant real fast.
That’s just one small example among other announced multiplats which raise some questions, like Snake Eater, aka something I’m absolutely not hyped for because the likelihood they screw it up is enormous.
I still played because I enjoyed the movement and stealth but that game was repetitive AF. I remember long ass unskippable dialogue and the exact same quest structure for all 8 targets.
I have terrible taste in games & I’m super easy to please. I like doing the most pointless stuff just to grab a rare achievement.
But even I can see that Ass Creed Mirage doesn’t look as ground-breaking & ambitious as previous entries because the scope is much smaller. I mean going from Egypt’s massive map (with freaking Pyramids as well) in Origins 6 years ago to basically just one city (from the looks of it) in Mirage is going to be a tough pill to swallow for some.
Me? I’ll be fine. I collected flags in Ass Creed 1 so I’ll do whatever pointless typical Ubisoft busywork Mirage has, but if I’m being objective here it’s not an exciting reveal & what we know about the game so far is not exciting either.
Man this looks bad for the insiders saying Sony had a bunch of trailers ready to go. Watch them pivot and claim Death Stranding 2 at SGF is what they meant.
I hope Factions turns out good though. My buddy loved the original and is waiting for this to drop to get a ps5.
They’re probably hoping something shows up at SGF just to save face lol
Realistically something will probably show up from both parties since they both are listed in the list of SGF participants.
They call themselves insiders but they’re a joke, can’t say what it was, can’t say why it wasn’t shown, and no way they were removed at the last second because reasons.
Sony Group Corp. has slowed down development on an upcoming multiplayer game in its long-running The Last of Us video game series as the creators reassess its quality and long-term viability, according to four people familiar with the project.
The team working on the game was scaled back after a recent evaluation, said the people, who asked not to be named because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly. A small group remains on the project while the company reevaluates the direction. While the game has not been canceled, many of its developers have been moved to other projects.
