Maybe they’re having a coming out party where the big reveal is he’s a Sony fanboy. Okay, not really, but with all other media outlets showing true color, can you blame me to feel somewhat this way?
It is getting weird indeed…Henderson’s answer is the most vague answer possible.
Also correct me if I am wrong but didn’t Henderson say in the past that he doesn’t give a fuck about embargos/NDA stuff? if that is the case then it’s indeed weird that he can’t say anything concrete (titles, release date windows e.t.c.) about the trailers he saw. ![]()
All true but im still very hyped for the game. Of course, I loved Spider Man 2018 and Miles Morales so me being hyped for Spider Man 2 is no surprise.
GTA 5 did it a decade ago but that doesn’t matter to me. I don’t care if games copy other games as long as it fits the game and is well implemented. To be able to play as both Peter and Miles is great and im expecting both will have their own skill trees and what can I say, im hyped for Spider Man 2.
I’m not a Marvel/DC guy in regards to movies as im more into TV series but gaming wise, I passed on Arkham Asylum and City two generations ago. Starting with Knight, I decided to not make the same mistakes again. I know these games are usually great. The only Marvel/DC game I have been disappointed with was Avengers mainly because it was a loot driven game. If it was a regular Batman/Spider Man game, it would have been so much better.
I don’t see why this is a big deal or a surprise. All companies hold back shit. If anything, it’s a given. I do believe that both Microsoft and Sony are holding shit back due to the ABK deal. If the Xbox showcase this year is similar to 2022 then yeah, you can see it.
Maybe Sony will have another showcase in September which im not going to complain about. The more the better. I’m still hoping Microsoft brings back XO in November. Plus State of Plays for Sony, Developer Directs for Microsoft. Yes please. Give me more shows.
Doubtless Sony has a lot of material in development for the future, just never planned for this particular show. Tom has probably actually seen some of it. He and other insiders just started thinking every future project they’ve seen or been hinted about was intended for this one show, and they hyped it up as the be-all end-all. They overplayed their hand and now they’re trying to save face.
Insiders are trying to save face
Live by the Sword die by the sword. Xbox and Xbox fans have been getting dumped on for much less so it’s about time Sony had to deal with backlash after a disappointing show and a lack of 1st party games for the foreseeable future.
Okay so I have a bold prediction that most people won’t agree with, but I would love to hear your thoughts about why you disagree…
PlayStation will never have another large E3 style showcase for the remainder of the PS5 generation.
My reasoning is basically this:
-
PlayStation is on pace to only release 1-2 AAA first party games a year, comparatively Xbox is on pace to release 4-6 big AAA games a year (post Activision and Bethesda)
-
PlayStation can create filler with third party money hats but that only goes so far. 1-2 AAA money hats a year, comparatively Xbox has significantly more filler for a show with 3-5 AAA Day1 Gamepass games.
-
PlayStation hates losing direct comparison E3 conferences. They hate it so much that they literally killed E3 after their disastrous flute guy E3. This failure of a conference is going to sting them and remind them why they prefer to skip these E3 events.
-
They will adopt a strategy of smaller directs, focusing on deep dives into their biggest game. From here on out it’s going to be all smoke and mirrors from PlayStation until we get to the PS6 reveal which will have an E3 feel to it.
They definitely buy media.
So Paul Tassi yesterday critiqued the Sony show because they showed too many games that are also coming to Xbox. How on earth that’s a bad thing is beyond me.
So will he applaud Xbox in June then when MS does show a good amount of first party titles, or will he actually be more like “this and that game is not coming to PS5, here’s why it’s a bad thing.”?
I go with the latter.
I can tell many of yall young ass hell. First Spiderman I played was on the PS1 and Spiderman’s gameplay improved drastically since then. Yea this PS showcase was disappointing but some of yall bugging saying Spiderman 2 looks boring. The Spiderman on PS4 was some of the most fun I ever had in modern video gaming. I definitely wouldn’t compare it to Infamous(which I found boring) or even Hulk Ultimate Destruction.
And I’m surprised many ppl don’t know who Kraven is he appeared in many types of medias.
Slow 2023 and 2024. We already know its bullshit. Sony already stated they only had one game due this fiscal year and its Spider-Man 2. No surprises until Next April.
…and its probably just MLB to break the silence
This is why I now decide to wait till the show and not set high expectations.
It is a bad thing for a platform showcase, that’s part of the reason they are getting railed. No exclusives.
Sorry but the media just flat out isnt paying attention and is now trying to cover their tracks for their own expectations of Sony.
Sony’s entire strategy changed two years ago. Their future projections indicate they intend to sell less games. That despite releasing on more platforms (PC and in some cases Xbox). They would be accounting for the increased sales on those other platforms, so that means that already apparent dip in game sales from 2023 onward is really even more dramatic than it looks (and its already dramtic projecting over 1 billion less in game sales by 2026, which is over 7 billion less than 2021!!). That is even more astounding when you consider they had less studios in 2021 and even 2022. The charts in question are below:
The games people are suggesting are not on the way. Sony has fully switched over to a strategy of live service games. They will be using more resources to develop and maintain those games. They will be releasing way way less games than they have previously.
Pre show….Sony have a show full of bangers ready to obliterate the competition they smell blood and are timing it perfectly. Hold onto your hats…Xbox players might want to start shipping your consoles back.
After show Sony held back all their big hitters, smart move they will have another show later.
You couldn’t make this nonsense up if you tried.
At least if third party/multiplat content is at xbox’s show it’s likely to be on GP
But yeah, people aren’t watching these shows for content that can be played elsewhere
Games are super subjective, so every opinion is valid. This kind of pseudo combat and quick time action just can’t excite me anymore. It’s so boring when games act like there are stakes when in reality there aren’t any. Let me feel like I accomplished something when I defeat an enemy and games like spider-man or AC don’t do that.
Boring is a big word but on some Sony centric forums I did see some people saying they aren’t really that excited, because they had recently finished the game. I do get that. It’s a good thing Insomniac’s game after this is Wolverine, will be nice to see how much it feels like Spidey with claws, hopefully not at all.
A friend of mine who has a PS4 said to me that the first game got repetitive for him. Perhaps he shouldn’t have been doing so many side quests that tire you out, but there are folks that didn’t like it as much as others.
I really don’t mind that, like I’m excited for Assassin’s Creed Mirage so seeing gameplay for that game was awesome, no matter what show it’s at.
I get why people are specifically looking for first party stuff from this kind of show though, and get disappointed when it’s lacking.
Yes, I’m watching Sony’s show for Sony’s products. Same with Xbox. I can accept it more with Xbox because 3rd Party showing often come with game pass. Straight up 3p trailers though. I don’t care.
