Finally channel their negativity on something reasonable.
I see some fans are delusional or just canât accept it yet. Some say this is barely the half of what Sony is working on, and SGF will show exactly that.
Uh huh.
Except that this would make zero sense, big things you leave for SGF, not your own big showcase?
My overall takeaway from the data that Playstation released and their showcase is a couple things.
Sonyâs strategy massively shifted to GAAS with at least 60% of their studios working on GAAS moving forward. That means several things :
-
Sony shifted strategy within the last 2 years at those studios, pretty much when they started talking GAAS about 1-2 years ago.
-
Those gamee developers working on such games will have only had their GAAS in development for that time span or shortly before it (when internal strategy shifted). Only exceptions are studios they acquired but didnt recently partner with (Bungie). This means that a majority of games they have in development have only been in development for less than 2 years.
-
Their release cadance will be dramatically impacted as the strategy shifts toward s maintaining games. Fewer new games will be released.
This is all supported by an absence of games and their charts detailing more add on content sales in the future and less game sales than they currently get.
You cannot say that when we didnât even saw a single gameplay footage. It was all CGI which tells you nothing.
And having more games than just over the shoulder cinematic games is good.
Itâs pure copium
I wouldnât be surprised if they have some things for Geoff, like a new Death Stranding 2 trailer could be a strong possibility but if you have your own showcase, youâre gonna want the bulk of the good stuff there
Do people expect Xbox to give Geoff a bunch of stuff too? Big doubt
I hope not, they should be able to have it all in their own show.
Or well, I think so, haha.
Itâs just sad that theyâre clearly just trying to find their golden goose. Basically throwing everything against the wall to see what sticks. They better hope something finds an audience or thereâs going to be a bunch of studios closed in a few years. It didnât feel like any of the GaaS trailers they showed off were really worthy of any excitement. Maybe Helldivers 2, but thatâs because itâs sequelâŚbut pretty much only superficially.
Are they insiders though? Inside of what?
I remember when GaaS was still a dirty word and everyone seemed desperate to bash MS for it, even when their games werenât those types of games. Now that PS is shifting half of their output to be GaaS games, itâll be considered a âgood strategyâ. Fun times.
Xbox did basically the same thing with their Singleplayer games in 2013-2018. We have so many games like Quantum Break, Recore, Screamride, Ryse and Sunset Overdrive. In the end only two games got a sequel - Ori and State of Decay.
Good lord, people acting like Sony forgot how to make games all of a sudden. Fucking hype narrative needs to die.
I think what Sony doesnt understand is you canât do these things by halves They just threw darts at every FPS from a studio they could afford and hope some how, some way they will hit a bullseye with titles that will somehow beat free options like Warzone and supplant Battlefield for $70.
Really successful GAAS are just games with good long term support and community.
Thatâs a brutal and pretty accurate takedown.
They know how to make one type of game well. The evidence in support of them for other genres is not great is it.
Something seemedâŚoff prior to this showcase, and I got that vibe when the reports came out of SIEâs spending in the future skewing more towards GaaS than single player. The chorus of voices coming out and saying âTheyâre still going to spend just as much on single player, theyâll just be spending EVEN MORE on GaaSâ sounded like damage control.
And despite two of the GaaS titles supposedly not being far enough along to do anything with but give a CGI trailer, they couldnât throw a bone to the fans of their single player fan base, with a similar title announcement of what Bluepoint is working on, or Bend, or someone else? The whole thing just seemed off and they left the door WIDE open for the upcoming Xbox showcase to get some goodwill for the brand, particularly with the single player games coming down the chute from XGS.
Wasnât insomniac the only studio in the showcase that has even released a âSonyâ game before?
Iâm good as long as Naughty Dog is still in the game. If they come out next time like, âHey gamers, instead of Uncharted 5, hereâs our new PvP extraction hero shooter!â then itâs time to panic.
But that is exactly what is going to happen. The best one can hope for is Neil wanting todo TLOU 3. Uncharted is dead unless another team does it.
