PlayStation Showcase 2021 OT

You gonna get a vertical slice of Kratos talking or Atreus or something like that with like Q4 2022 at best.

some of yall expecting Spiderman sequel is kinda wild lol, Insomniac needs a whole ass break of a year to not talk about anything after shipping MM and Rift Apart.

Nah, my sources tell they’ve been hard at work at their next entry in the Spidy series since before Rift Apart even released and we can expect a truly next gen experience by 2024…

haha I don’t doubt in the least that they’re working on the sequel, just that it’s not ready to show yet, at this showcase. Recency bias of Miles Morales will make the reveal get “wait the game looks just like MM, what’s the next gen part about it?”

We’ll very likely see it next year tho.

I did state that they could do it if they set the game in NY again. If they make it a rehash like MM there is no doubt in my mind they could ship it in late 2023. Honestly don’t even think that announcing it here is very weird either since the original had a release 2 years after announcement.

Seems weird to try and rush a real next gen Spiderman.

This event is only 40 minutes, so I’d temper expectations of a massive blowout.

I’m expecting God of War, Horizon, Factions, Call of Duty, Final Fantasy, some updates to existing games, a few unexpected third party games, and maybe one more first party announcement.

Maybe GT too.

That’s definitely NOT going to happen.

I’m not a fan of episodic games at all but would be much more interested in Kojima’s episodic survival horror game over Death Stranding 2. The first game looks so fucking boring!!!

Not expecting Spider Man 2 until next year. From Insomniac, I think a remaster and/or sequel for Sunset Overdrive is much more likely than Spider Man 2. Because of Miles Morales, I see Spider Man 2 getting revealed next year with a Fall 2023 release.

Gran Turismo 7 is a good bet. I can see maybe Guerrilla’s MP FPS from the guy that led Rainbow Six Siege. And Factions.

Also, probably a few Indies like JETT and Kena. FFXVI and Forspoken won’t be at the Tokyo Game Show according to SE so I think the PlayStation Showcase is a good bet. I agree with Deathloop. I don’t think COD will be on the showcase as they showed a good amount at Keighley’s show.

And of course, the game that will end up giving Skyrim a run for it’s money in regards to most editions and remasters - Grand Theft Auto 5. UGH.

My guess would be timed. I personally would rather see Sony/Microsoft pay for games to be fully exclusive instead of timed as I don’t even see the point to that and see it as a waste of money.

For games that launch everywhere day one, then yeah, I would also prefer to see games go into Game Pass day one like A Plague Tale Requiem.

I think Spider Man 2 gets revealed next year and releases in Fall 2023. I also believe that they’re going to do a smaller Rivet spin off game.

yeah we definitely seeing GT7.

Yikes, reading this thread reminds how easily ppl get hyped up only to be let down. It’s a 40mins show including plenty of indie stuff. Expect Deathloop to take up several minutes with a launch trailer. GT7 trailer, Horizon trailer, GoW gameplay and maybe Ghostwire Tokyo are all ya guys should hope for. Kojima or From Soft isn’t remotely likely to show up. lol at aynone expecting Spiderman sequel too.

Stuff always gets hyped up like there’s no tomorrow. It’s best to just wait and see. I personally don’t even care that much because I won’t be having a PS5 anytime soon, eventually though.

That being said, doesn’t Sony usually announce these things two days or even shorter before it starts? They announced this thing a full week beforehand.

It will definitely be their biggest show in a while, thats why it’s being hyped. After months of dissapointing state of plays and silence from Sony they finally have something to show. But at the same time, 40 minutes is 40 minutes. Unless it’s nonstop games they only have so much they can bring and I’m expecting 25% of the show to be comprised of God of War and Horizon.

If it’s a smaller AA/Indie type level show, a few days before. A week before is because it’s going to be pretty big compared to all the rest of the shows that they’ve done.

Yeah to me it seems to work best for them when it is a shorter window for the announcement–>show. Keeps ppl from allowing insiders to come in with bullshit rumor mongering and hyping ppl up too much just for them go be let down. Sony might be trying to stretch that window out a lil bit to see how big it can be before ppl go bonkers with the expectations. I’d say it isn’t working, lol.

Yeah they have been having shows of similar length to this for a while now, which is why I think expectations are a bit too high as if everyone jus forgot that they have been having shows of similar length for a while now. It is just that they don’t measure up to an E3 scale presser so ppl forget they happened. I do think this one will be a lot better received though since they will likely only show 2-3 games for 2021 (Deathloop, Kena) and the rest will be 2022/2023. At the same time, as you point out they will have to make room for GT7 and HFW to take up a chunk of time with trailers too plus other indie titles and we can likely expect. I still think it will be their best show in a long while though.

What I wonder is, what are they going to have for these last few months that is not Kena? They don’t have anything from their own studios left for this year, so a surprise big third party timed exclusive perhaps? I’ve no clue what that could be though.

They don’t have anything. Just the reality of delays. I don’t think they need to scramble to find something to fill the whole when they will sell every console they can make and will continue selling miles morales and other games.

True and they will depend on things like CoD, GTA 5 remaster and so on.
