Playstation Plus revamp announced, Jim Ryan explains why Sony cannot currently offer day and date games in service

Sometimes on social media I see these claims about how much money a PS exclusive has cost and that there’s no way a Xbox exclusive cost that much. What is this even based on?

I cannot imagine that Halo Infinite, FH5, Flight Simulator, Gears 5 were exactly cheap to make. And for future games…Starfield. inXile who was said by Sponger to have the biggest budget for XGS yet.

Fanboyism mostly.

Wouldn’t the same logic that applies to moneyhats apply here, too?

Meaning, Sony is supposedly paying less to moneyhat than Xbox, due to fewer potential sales lost due to the larger PS4/PS5 playerbase.

Using that logic, they would need to pay more to get games on PS+, due to more potential sales lost due to the larger playerbase.

Makes sense to me. And if this is the case, I find it kind of hilarious.

Although, I suppose for games with MTX, the larger playerbase may be an argument in favour of paying less.

Game Pass also needs to consider PC though

Ooooh. Good point. As someone who don’t do very much PC gaming anymore, that totally slipped my mind.

Larger PS4 base, for PS5 exclusivity it is more expensive for Sony to get moneyhats this gen, than the last (specifically on the west). Because Xbox Series consoles are doing good.

I would say they are already going down that route IMO!

For example Demon’s Souls, Death Stranding Director’s Cut & Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut.

Many PS4 titles also got a remaster and are rumoured to be getting a PS5 equivalent e.g.

  • Last of Us
  • Shadow of the Colossus
  • Uncharted
  • God of War 3
  • Wipeout

The way they are also approaching upgrade paths is ridiculous.

Mr Jim Rayn forget to admit that they are lagging behind in PC, that is biggest factor they can’t release stuff on a subscription service

Xbox has strong legs in PC now and they can sell there games on PC day one… PS does not have this luxury yet

Not always. And MS shouldnt be held ransom to that either. If they cna obtain a hogh quality game as console only then they should do it. PC has other markets like steam and epic that would infuence the price. If MS go down that road they wont get many 3rd party games in the long run at all.

Also, was I reading wrong or did Jim Ryan also said that if they were to put their games Day 1 on the service, they would also have to increase the cost of the service ?

I think they should do their best to serve both PC and Console equally.

Probably

I dont kike this narrative that sony must put their games day 1 or theyll fail. Let ms do what theyre doing.

The problem is sony potentially doing a half assed job well they sort of are with some fo these tiers. If jim doesnt want to do it then fine. Let the market dictate whats right.

Noone seems to be having a go at nintendo for offering what is an absolutely abysmal online system with 1/50th of the library.

Gamepass is such an insanely good deal that sony cant compete in that space. But they dont have to. Theyre still selling consoles

And they can but first need to worry about maintaing a decent pc store. And they do by putting games on pc. But in the real world. Theres no equality. Pc gaming is larger. So they need to focus more on selling consoles. Thats their product.

Console sales will drive your gamepass more due to the nature of the users and that market. Im saying if3rd parties say no to pc but yes to console. Accept the deal.

They are selling consoles at the rate they can put them out though (and with high Game Pass attach rate), and PC is a much larger market for growth for the service.

Ultimately, both GP and PS Plus extra/premium are in competition with discounts/regular sales on games. People don’t stop buying games when on the service.

So any game that comes in the service in the first year of release has good value and it is seen as a “good get”. Getting games 2-3 years after their release, not so much.

That’s why day one is so important.

Most people have already played God of War or Spider Man and these games are dirt cheap right now, so it’s really not something you want to put on display when your service launches. It’s not as attractive as Sony think it is.

Of course it is. But my point is 3rd parties will outright refuse to put their games on pc gamepass due to the steam sales or epic deals which will be worth more to them. Xbox? I think most of them would take deals that benifit them in that regard. Look at outriders. MLB too though a pc version doesnt exist.

And a genocidal psychopath as of God of War 3

So that is the PS2 library and this is the huge PS1 library lol

Also for everyone that criticized the Games with Gold games just think about this fact. Xbox gives away 24 backwards compatible games every year. Whatever the PlayStation Plus number ends up being for retro games never forget how many free (often enhanced) retro games Xbox gives out every year.
