Playstation Plus revamp announced, Jim Ryan explains why Sony cannot currently offer day and date games in service

It’s unfortunate because that kind of fan behavior leads to companies not doing better.

Some are more concerned with defending a company/not admitting they are “wrong” than looking for the best value. If Xbox was in the opposite position I would have jumped ship a while ago.

VOGCGVWPOG for short.

The reason why Apple can get away with BS while having a cult-like following is because they have the cash flow. Sony doesn’t. PlayStation is the only thing keeping them afloat. Except maybe their JP life insurance business, but does anyone really care about that side of their business?

I don’t even feel the HBO comparison bc HBO Max had day and date movies :sob: :skull_and_crossbones:

Same here. I think it is obvious they need to put the service on PC, as a whole new audience can be tapped into.

At the moment, I don’t think this will entice a lot more people on PlayStation to subscribe to PS Plus, so I guess Sony is hoping people will subscribe to the highest tier so they can get more money out of them.

There were some rumors about potential PC launcher in the future. Maybe it will be tied in - with PS Now and other features.

Um…timing?

The brazilian price is unbelievable for me

Playstation Plus Deluxe R$ 59,90

Netflix Premium R$ 55,90

Playstation Plus Extra R$ 52,90

Ubisoft Plus R$ 49,99

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate R$ 44,99

Netflix Standard R$ 39,90

HBO Max R$ 27,90

Guess who’s the one that doesn’t have big releases day one?

I hope they drop something big soon, let people perceive the big difference that GP brings, and actually demand better from Sony. If Sony do better in their offering, Game Pass will then also do better. I don’t know why people don’t get this.

Someone is being cheeky

Unless Xbox significantly outsells PlayStation this gen, I can’t see a scenario where Sony can outbid Microsoft for big titles. The reason why third party publishers are willing to accept a timed exclusivity deal from Sony, or a Game Pass deal from Microsoft was due to how much the PS4 was outselling the Xbox. If all else is equal, Microsoft has to be at an advantage here.

I asked for it

The more I think about Jim Ryan’s trash comments about a “virtuous cycle” for their first party games, it really seems like a terrible move to message things that way. You basically just told any other developer or publisher that may want to consider a game release as day and date on the PlayStation service that their games aren’t as high of a quality, and you also gave your own fans a reason to question the quality of your own games if you end up pivoting later to having day one releases at some point as he said was always possible down the road.

Sony, you make nice games that I have enjoyed a number of. But get off your high horse of acting like you have the corner on high quality gaming experiences in the industry. Xbox was the top publisher last year on Metacritic, with a higher average score than ever for a publisher.

I keep saying that Sony and its fan base have bought into their own hype and simply think PlayStation games are on another level to other games.

It’ll likely be a Fourth tier, called PS Plus Premium Ultra Extra…

If Sony ever pivots to day one games they will need to explain how they suddenly shifted to this model they once previously said was unsustainable.

I mean I just heard someone rant that Sony cannot do day and date games because the quality would dip and how Xbox has yet to “prove” they can release quality games on a service… I can’t tell if they believe what they are saying or if its an act.

When you’re sadly walking through that forest, it only deepens your satisfaction to know that you paid a premium price of $70 to do so. No game so sad and forested could possibly exist on some hoi polloi subscription service.
