Playstation Plus revamp announced, Jim Ryan explains why Sony cannot currently offer day and date games in service

I wonder what this person will say when Sony inevitably releases their games day and date?

Their fans and the media wont care, Sony survived lying about generations and games like GT7, Horizon, etc where it ended up being cross gen.

Sony is permitted by gaming media and gamers to flat out lie to them cause they like Sonys sad dad 3rd person walking simulators.

They simply said, ā€œGame Passā€ over YouTube. They’re not even hiding. Lol.

Just look at Netflix and the huge budget they put into their work , You know why ???

Good content = Happy customers subscribe >>>> more Money

Bad content = Sad customers not subscribe >>>> losing Money

Answer to your question about quality

Yes they believe it with their hearts, minds and souls , because they are on heavy copium , And they wish game pass fail because they know Sony can’t compete and don’t have the money to do it

Yep, this. Any change of policy in the future will simply be accepted with very little scrutiny.

Service is pretty much what I expected it to be though the pricing is what suprised me. The yearly is decent enough but those monthly and quarter prices are pretty ridiculous. I would have lowered those to get people subbed in as I think plenty of gamers will be reluctant to commit a full year. It’s also quite funny watching my twitter feed and seeing a lot of disappointment especially from games journalists and you tubers. Other then the odd die hard most are pretty opposed to the offerings.

He put up a good fight…

Its not an act nor a belief — its a coping mechanism. They cannot admit Game Pass has both good value and good games, so they spin whatever narratives will ease their worries.

But there’s another psychological reasoning at play: some people think high priced goods are inherently high quality, and will look down on cheap goods regardless of its quality. This is so they can enjoy the feelings of superiority and status that come with expensive stuff. Its the classic psychology behind luxury consumer goods and hypebeast culture. If you pay enough attention to fanboys on Twitter, and you’ll come across plenty of classist talk, like how people who enjoy Game Pass and wait for game sales are ā€œbrokeā€ or ā€œpoorā€.

i think once XGS & Bethesda games get good reviews and Metacritic scores consistently then the argument would be a moot point.

Its fascinating to see how differently MS and Sony are doing subscription services. Its like MS have jumped into the pool all in while Sony are dipping half-a-leg in. I’m a little surprised they aren’t matching GP on Day One releases but the finances don’t work for them, at least not yet. I wonder how much potential movies from their 1st party games are affecting their subscription plans.

I’m curious how MS will respond but really, do they have to? They can just keep doing what their doing and eventually get that GP streaming stick out for dumb-TVs

It certainly wouldn’t take millions to develop a ps3 emulator XD

What did I say would happen…? I’ve seen this take so many times today. Compare Gamepass to PS+… This is exactly the reason this rebrand was done, to simply say 2 is bigger than 1, without actually explaining why (or that it’s technically wrong, even worse you’re comparing apples to oranges with stuff like YouTube, why not compare the sales of Mars Bars too?)

Well they’re idiots so it is not much to be concerned about

I like how Hoeg Law said it at the end of the video. It’s not based on the name for being a good movie, rather an imitation of imitation of imitation. Something like that but it was a great closing line.

Especially knowing that dev community made one without having access to the official documentation

Gaming media sucks so much, I honestly don’t know if they are on some sort of pay roll. It’s either that, they are Cultists or they are incompetent. I have spent the day once again explaining Xbox Game Pass to people whose job it is to cover these things, unbelievable.

I’m betting a lot of money Ryan is talking a bit out the side of his mouth there. I doubt, for example, that Sony’s games are on the whole any more expensive to produce than products like Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon etc. What I suspect has happened is that MS is willing to make a game like Halo and simply make less money per player to try and reach more people. Basically, they’re turning the business into a margins game, at least on their end.

I’m betting a lot of money Sony is scared to take cash cow PlayStation in that direction so basically said ā€œcan we price a sub high enough to keep our margins intact if we do day one launches?ā€ The answer was ā€œnoā€ so they aren’t going that way. Now they’re just going to pitch it as a ā€œwe can’t deliver our high quality artistic experiences in that manner.ā€

Meanwhile we’ll ignore the flaming dumpster fire that is GT in the corner. Notably full price, live service, chalk full of expensive micro transactions, and not quality.
