Depends on your point of view really : If you have a PS5 of course you want games built to take full advantage of the hardware, but if you don’t have one then of course you want to still have the ability to play the game.
But games can take advantage of the hardware and still be possible on lesser machines.
Game design does not evolve in jumps, it’s a gradative process so no games released in the next few years is going to be a revolution ingame design that just won’t be possible on anything less than a ps5 regardless if they make a ps4 version or not.
Even in previous gens the reason older consoles were dropped sooner were more due to business reasons than technical ones (old consoles would completely change the architecture and the whole dev environment so supporting older consoles when the enthusiast market moved to the new thing was not viable) But now since everything is designed with scalability and everyone is more or less on the same architecture and even the apis are super close there’s no reason not to support.
Tldr; It’s the mindset that is wrong. This isn’t about a game forced to run on ps4 limiting the ps5 version. This is about enabling a game that would never take advantage of the ps5 features and raw power in ways that ps4 couldn’t cope to be come out on more platforms
Gonna be honest here. I see plenty of praise about Demon’s Souls graphics and sure, there are times it’s indeed very impressive but I don’t find it consistently impressive.
Right now I’m watching a stream, it’s in a outdoor area on a castle and it really reminds me of some Dark Souls 3 locations visually wise with the only truly big difference being how clean it all looks. No aliasing.
I would say this is absolutely doable on PS4 at a lower resolution perhaps.
It’s not necessarily about raw power. Too much attention gets put on it when it comes to scaling graphics, as it is one of the more simpler things one can do.
It is stuff like the increased RAM and SSD that the PS5 has that means a developer would have to change their design parameters if they have to consider the PS4. A simple example is how GG had to cut flying mounts in Horizon because the hard drive couldn’t stream in the data fast enough.
I understand the business reason why cross generation exists, however, from a pure selfish point of view of a PS5 owner you would want games to take full advantage of the new, shiny console you have just bought.
Nop. I prefer more true next gen games.
Like how does this happen haha
It looks like a feature at this point.
Because it’s very smooth and doesn’t break the game.
Demon’s Souls looks incredible. My cousin showed me some gameplay I was impressed, it is really damn beautiful. Loved this game in the past. Excellent exclusivity. Will buy it as soon as they have a ps5 pro model totally stable.
It looks eyeball meltingly good in action. So does the raytracing in Spidey provided you don’t zoom in (the difference in fidelity is significant but hardly noticeable 99% of the time due to smart use of tints and floors look beautiful).
Yep I was imagining Elden Ring while watching Demon’s Souls remake. Elden Ring can’t come soon enough. One of my most anticipated games.
The quality is really really high. Animations, physics, lightning etc. Really amazed by the game. Did you see the dragons breathing fire and burning corpses? The materials applied and textures? Top quality remake of an already top quality game.
Even my brother was so amazed that he bought Dark Souks Remastered that we play it in coop together and finish it for the millionth time again just to ease the wait of a ps5 pro lol and not think about Demon’s Souls. He didn’t play the dlc so the pain will be lighter haha.
Blue Point are insanely talented. If Sony gets them, congrats. Excellent work they did right there.
Yep Sony devs have one thing in common is smart use of ressources. You can’t deny that.
Dead lmao
My PS5 died on day 1. Crushed Was looking forward to Demon‘s Souls so much.
Man sorry to hear. That sucks!
Is this why there is no vrr?
Better it bricks now than 1 month out of warranty.
Keeping in mind that Xbox one X also supports VRR, 32Gbps doesn’t looks like the reason for not supporting VRR at launch.
Things like HDR with 8k 60 might be affected due to this.
Miles Morales is legit great. Looks and feels next gen and is pretty meaty. Probably still not worth the price (I’d wait till it drops to 35-40 USD tbh) unless you also haven’t played the original (then the Deluxe is a fantastic deal) but worth a play.
For anyone having coil whine issues, there is a fix! It’s really just a tiny problem but unfortunately you have to open up the fan.
Maybe coil whine is something different, but if you have this problem it can be fixed
