PlayStation 5 |OT| This SSD has no limits

Ah, ok. Your under MS point makes sense.

Yeah I despite any form of developer slander. We can do better than this. Japan Studios for example made some amazing games and every niche is great.

Calling sucker punch? Yeahh… Got anyone?

Nahh I really don’t like it. Thus I could say Compulsion Games is mediocre and yet I love We Happy Few for what it does right. So much potential.

The last Guardian is one of my favourite games last gen just sayin…

Japan Studio also collaborated on Bloodborne, which is the first great ps4 title and many believe it to be FromSoft’s best work till date. They also made Gravity Rush, a very innovative, interesting franchise that sadly went under the radar and Sony themselves didn’t market the games right. This was during the Vita era so it makes sense.

Dreams I believe is the best thing Sony has greenlit this generation because its precisely not what every other major studio of theirs is doing - third person over the shoulder walky talky action adventure with lite stealth elements. Its waaay outside their comfort zone and I do believe if Nintendo or even Xbox (PC) had released Dreams, it’d have been significantly more popular and successful. Sadly it got undermined by Sony’s own symptoms of “big blockbuster AAA or bust” ethos. It’s an excellent concepting tool for creators, has great VR implementation, people have made amazing fan games in it and someone recreated the Unreal Engine 5 demo in it and it looked eerily similar because the lighting engine in Dreams shares very similar techniques and algorithms to bring out those kinds of results. It has incredible potential, I do hope they release it on pc where it will find a huuuuge audience and even the modding community will go to town on it.

It’s just sad that the Xbox OT is filled with excitement about the console and the games and I come here to the PS5 OT and all I see is constant concern posting or deriding their games and studios for some reason. Not that those shouldn’t be aired, but I do wish this thread was populated more by celebration rather than this disarray so much.

It is to be expected that in a xbox centric forum you wont see much passion for playstation

This is somewhat a save space for people.

Regardless don’t cater to the same toxicity you despite. Makes you a hypocrite.

For the record, im not bashing any studio but when I see someone say that Sony’s studios are mediocre, they’re just wrong, plain and simple. Sony’s internal studios are arguably the best in this industry while Microsoft’s internal studios have a ways to go before being equal let alone being better.

I don’t have any interest in Nintendo or their games but I can’t say that they’re mediocre just because they’re of no interest to me as that makes no sense.

???

EDIT: Is “you” more general than me specifically? haha i was confused

Uhhh I mean the community as a whole

What metric are you using? If we’re using critical acclaim then Sony cumulatively has a fairly weak first party stable. There use to be this illusion that because of Naughty Dog and to an extent Sony Santa Monica that every studio Sony had was on the same level as their top 2 studios. However now that Days Gone, Ghost of Tsushima, Gran Turismo etc have all critically underwhelmed its shattered this illusion.

Its not only that the majority of Playstation studios underperform critically, they also underperform when it comes to consistency, punctuality (many of their devs may release 1-2 games per gen) and arguably the biggest weakness being variety. Any reasonable metric you use, and Playstation studios are dead last out of the big 3.

Nintendo only has like…5 in house developers but their EPD department pumps out like 4-5 games per year and they have a ton of external devs that only make games for them (Next Level Games, HAL, Intelligent Systems, Game Freak)

It’s not sourced, just my speculation. Insomniac would never release a game of this scope that was no super polished imho. Reviews don’t mention it either, which makes me wonder if there is a difference between retail units and preview units or something. I’m guessing the SSD memory issues could directly affect gameplay.

Could be, but Spider Man was also buggy at launch. I just think MM was a little bit rushed for launch.

From a semi technical perspective, what do you think these issue are? Bus between the two? Bandwidth of the memory? More SSD channels developers aren’t yet use to? Do you think this is causing a bottleneck or possibly missed cycles in the data throughput?

Again, admitting to my outdated PC perspective, I’m not catching why Sony’s SSD and memory would/could be the culprit.

Long story short, we’ll just have to agree to disagree. If you don’t have any interest in PlayStation, Sony’s internal studios and their exclusives, why are you even posting in the PS5 OT to begin with? Just to bash it? Makes no sense. It would be like me posting in a Nintendo or sports game topic. Why would I even waste my time posting about platforms and/or games that I have no interest in? But whatever, to each their own.

I’ve no idea tbh. I don’t know enough about that aspect of the PS5 to offer more than guesswork connecting the dots real loosely. I wouldn’t be shocked at all to be wrong. I just know storage issues can lead to corrupt data and glitches in games like the ones we see in some vids.

I didn’t realize that! Was it this bad though?

Nintendo has the best internal teams in the industry, but Sony has been gaining fast. Add Insomniac, who is one of the best and most prolific developers out there, and their internal studios are in the hallowed “Nintendo” ground. Soon, they will be acquiring BP as well. If you don’t care about hardware, it is hard to turn down the PS5 with the reputation they have built over the years. Me, I care about hardware as well, so I made the switch.

But saying Sony’s studios are mediocre is just plain ignorant, and makes one sound pretty much like a fanboy

I didn’t play the game, but saw videos of bugs in the borders of the map (a bridge if I remember correctly). So a bit gamebreaking but not as bad as MM, I guess.

There is no hallowed Nintendo ground at all those Sony studios are aside from Naughty Dog so Besides that there is nothing else. A Bluepoint acquisition would be one similar to Playground where its nice but doesnt change anything since all they did was work for that console with the difference that Playground could actually make games from scratch.

Whoever says they are mediocre is clearly lying or a fanboy but Im one of the few who isnt particularly jn love with what they do. The only real Sony games I liked this gen were Horizon, God of War and Gravity Rush.

I can agree with this. I don’t like every Sony game but they do cater to what I prefer and want more of than Microsoft.

This is where I’m at. They do an extraordinary job at Sony’s trademark genre, but it’s not a genre I’m really into. My exceptions though were God of War, Spider-Man, and Ratchet & Clank.

However, seeing Sackboy and Destruction Allstars gives me some hope they’re diversifying.
