PlayStation 5 |OT| This SSD has no limits

It’ll be interesting to see once Xbox studios are in full swing pumping out games on a regular basis and Sony on a one or two year cadence.

GoT is great and the fastest selling ps4 new IP. On top of that, Sucker Punch also added post game content for free, that too multiplayer which was something nobody had seen Sony do for the longest time in the entire generation. They could have been mediocre before but they are not anymore.

Bend was mostly a spinoff and support studio for the longest time before Days Gone. I’d give them more time and projects to hit it off in the same way it took both Sucker Punch and Guerilla to do it with GoT and Horizon respectively.

Saying these are untalented studios is absolute bs.

I’m not sure what Bend made, Sucker Punch put themselves on the map with GoT though, oh my. I am not the biggest fan of Polyphony but GT is a quality racer. Sony Japan made The last Guardian? No idea what Pixel Opus and Sony London made though.

There’s no sugarcoating it. This launch has been a catastrophe.

Right? Lol. I read that 6 hours and I’m like, wow that sounds perfect!

6h? That game should cost 30€ at most then

For me personally, I love the following studios -

  • Bend Studio
  • Guerrilla Games
  • Insomniac Games
  • Naughty Dog
  • Santa Monica
  • Sucker Punch

The rest of Sony’s studios are of little to no interest to me. The thing is that for me, those six studios are all proven where as outside of The Coalition, none of the Microsoft’s studios are proven for me. I don’t care what any of their other studios did (good or bad) before being acquired by Microsoft because that means nothing to me because now, you’re under the Microsoft label.

In this regard, it’s about what games are you going to give me? Because at the end of the day, it’s about what each and every individual’s preferences are and if a company isn’t giving you what you prefer, then why are you wasting your time with that company?

The main difference is that at least for me, Sony’s internal studios are proven where as Microsoft’s simply aren’t. My personal prediction is that Sony’s internal studios will continue to release excellent exclusives more times than not while I see Microsoft’s studios being for Xbox this generation what Sony’s were for last generation.

Santa Monica resurrected itself with God of War. Guerrilla Games put themselves on the map with Horizon Zero Dawn. Same for Sucker Punch with Ghost of Tsushima. Insomniac is simply awesome and possibly the best overall studio for Sony. Bend released a game that a lot of critics didn’t like but majority of fans did. I loved Days Gone. Naughty Dog has been proven since PS3 for me so no real worries there, at least not yet.

I see Microsoft’s studios taking the next step this generation and being at a higher level of quality than ever before and establishing themselves like Sony’s studios did with PS4.

It’s time for Playground to step out of the shadows of Forza (like Guerrilla did by stepping out of the shadow of Killzone to develop a game that was and is far superior in Horizon) and develop a game that is far superior in Fable. Time for all the Microsoft studios to step their fucking game up, period.

So while im more hyped for Xbox Series X than I am PlayStation 5, Microsoft’s internal studios need to prove themselves especially when it comes to overall quality and I have the confidence that the vast majority of them will do so.

Back to Sony, their quality will more times than not always be there regardless of if their games are for you or not.

Absolutely. It’s embarrassing, and not the first time this user has acted this way toward game creators.

What are your sharing options on PS5 clips? Can you share them on Facebook? Or at least easily get them to your phone or PC?

The whole situation surrounding storage on PS5 seems really strange and cagey. The expandable SSD isn’t a thing yet despite WD having an officially rated SSD available, the ‘can’t move PS5 games to external storage’ crap which REALLY makes the 664 GB available seem cagey, the issue with not being able to download games despite having enough space left, and now whatever is causing these consoles to brick. I don’t think these are isolated incidents. I wouldn’t be shocked if the Spiderman bugs are related to memory issues too. No way Insomniac would release a game that buggy, certainly not a game of fairly small scope.

I agree that the trackrecord of Sony’s studios is undeniable, but I would say more than Coalition are consistent and proven in quality.

Bethesda Game Studios Maryland redefined the WRPG genre and have yet to make a bad game IMO (note I said Maryland, Austin did 76)

Obsidian release consistently great WRPGs and made arguably the best Fallout of all time. They have also really cleaned up their QA.

Ninja Theory has made several fantastic games including Hellblade which I thought was superb. I also really liked Bleeding Edge, but either way, it was a small passion project.

Arkane and MachineGames, Youngblood aside (which even then is fine but ruined by Zenimax decisions) are two fantastic devs.

Id basically created the first person shooter as we know it and have a stellar trackrecord.

Tango Gameworks only has 2 games to their name but they reviewed super well.

PlayGround and Turn 10’s output may not be “stepping up” per say, but I think they are the best racing devs out there. And again, PlayGround could be something even bigger and better.

The rest of the studios are either inconsistent but mostly good to very good (Double Fine, Rare, 343i, InXile, Mojang, etc.), mostly unproven (Alpha Dog, Initiative, Zenimax Online arguably) or have a rough track record but a ton of potential (Compulsion, Roundhouse).

Still, quality of studios depends on the view of the person and Sony has some truly great first party teams. I hope to see Bluepoint and Housemarque join the family in the near future, and the same of Asobo for MS.

What? Polyphony and Sucker Punch deliver great experiences regularly. Sony Japan is a fantastic dev and support team. Pixelopus is still growing and finding their identity.

London is very talented but their VR focus does leave out a ton of players. As for Bend, their work on the handhelds and back in the PS1 days were fantastic and from what I heard, Days Gone was rough around the edges but fixed. They’ll probably level up in quality as they get reacquainted with home console development.

Nah…Polyphonies Gran Turismo Sport was a dude and that series has been getting bodied by Forza since like 2005…and Sucker Punch took an entire gen, six years to deliver an 83/100 rated game. If they made it in 3-4 years it’d be no issue but six years? Come on… they’re definitely a mediocre studio

I think Media Molecule will shut down soon, after how badly Dreams flopped critically which is sad because it’s one of the rare Sony games that’s quality and actually broke out of their generic cinematic third person action adventure game template. Sony’s problem isn’t just that a lot of their devs are untalented, but they also have a huge variety issue.

I haven’t heard this yet. What’s your source material for this line of thought?

Lets keep in mind that Xbox has 23 studios, if even only half of them are quality developers that’s about 11-12 quality studios that MS has under their belt

Sony has only 12-13 studios but only about 1/3 of them are quality/consistent/punctual developers.

I mean…if Jim Ryan himself has no confidence in his own first party…morale has to be extremely low at Playstation. I can see why they have such a high turnover rate there.

I find your opinion here lacking. You are entitled to your opinion, but most would disagree with you. If Sony has any issues it is with their hardware, not their studios. Their internal studios are second to only Nintendo

The Coalition delivered not 1…not 2…but FOUR games this gen that all were well received and also broke into other genre’s with Gears Tactics. If Sucker Punch delivered Ghost in 3 maybe even 4 years I would give them credit, the game for taking six years to make definitely puts Sucker Punch in the high C grade category.

Coalition’s games don’t score much higher than Ghost did but we’re talking punctuality and they take less than 1/2 of the time to deliver a quality product.

I meant commercially, critically it did well but bombed sales wise hence why I think MM will get the axe which is sad because they put out a quality product while other devs like Bend, Sucker Punch, Poly Phony etc put out underwhelming products but still did commercially well.

Sooooo basically the last game Playground made…after they were acquired…got it

This always makes me laugh…if you really want to see a series that’s declined look no further than Gran Turismo which is sitting at what? a 75 now? Didn’t this use to be a 90+ rated series? Sad thing is this is the same studio, even the same director. At least with Gears it has the excuse of being developed by a different developer

You two are both out of your mind in your race to dump all over studios. We can be better than this.
