PlayStation 5 |OT| This SSD has no limits

Incredible game, easily one of the best in the genre and a rare decade-later sequel that turned out better than the original (imo).

I have. Twice. Just not into it. Sorry.

It’s alright, just thought maybe it might scratch that itch in third person platforming genre.

Have you tried out that latest Prince of Persia platformer or Tales of Kenzera Zau? Neither are on GamePass, but Zau was on PS++. I’m kind of enjoying Zau but it’s a bit faster paced platforming than Psychonaughts 2. PoP looks even faster paced than Zau.

In all honesty, im not a platformer guy. The only platformers that I have completed after SNES/Genesis were the Mario/DKC 2D games on Wii and Wii U (these were played on Switch via the remasters) and the only 3D platformer that I have ever completed was/is Astro Bot and that’s only after I played Astro’s Playroom and enjoyed it to where I wanted to play the full game. If I didn’t like Playroom, I wouldn’t have bought Astro Bot.

I bought and played Tales of Kenzera: Zau on Xbox for $10 a few weeks ago when it was on sale and it’s a good game but I dropped it because im just horrible at all. I’m not good at metroidvania games which is why I rarely if ever play them. The only metroidvania game that I have ever completed was Super Castlevania IV for SNES back in the day. I have a played a few others like Super Metroid, obviously Kenzera and the two Ori games but im not good at them at all. Just remembered, bought and played that FIST game that released a few years ago. Another good game but again, not good at them and after a while, I just drop them and move on.

Well said it is a lovely platform game right up there with the very best and even more clever than Astrobot in a lot of ways too also, impressed with how lovely the game looks even now. One of the best-looking Xbox games to date a try gem that sadly overlooked

Of course it’s a good situation for Sony, their only 1st party game that isn’t a remaster this year got the GOTY award in a year full of quality releases, they maintain their “prestige” exclusive image and Astrobot’s sales will most likely get a small boost. Niche or not they managed to be in the spotlight when they had an abysmal year in terms of 1st party releases…thank god for those stupid enough publishers like Koei Tecmo and Square Enix that accepted those moneyhats.

It’s truly such an amazing game, sadly most sites and TGA in that year didn’t give the game the recognition it deserved…honestly a game so beautiful, so smart narrative wise and so creative in terms of levels not getting even one award at that show is still freakin’ crazy to me.

Lol yep it’s quite lucky that PlayStation won in such a quiet year… :stuck_out_tongue:

I believe it was nominated for the TGAs goty. I think what irks me about Psychonaut 2 discourse that people don’t give it the respect it deserves. No disrespect to Astrobot, but people saying Astrobot is the best 3d platformer since Mario Odyssey makes me laugh. The game is sitting at a 87 MC and 89 OC, which is a very high score.

The game itself is very clever, and it touches on many topics games are scared to go. The platforming aspect of the game is very good and it’s mixed with a very good narrative. It makes the whole dismissal of the game crazy, and makes me wonder if its due to being a Microsoft published game it doesn’t get the respect it deserves when talking about platformers

I guess for TGA it might’ve been tough to get the goty over It Takes Two that year. However, I did enjoy Psyhonaut 2 more

I agree.

I feel it is a bit of snobbery with some gamers thinking that the Japanese make better platform games than Western developers.

Watched the Cerny thing and while I don’t get a sexual charge from listening to a guy speak about a console, it at least shed some light on what kind of focus ray tracing actually was with the Pro and he thankfully corrected the doubled TFLOP count.

I can see why they went with a deeper relationship with AMD because if left alone who knows how long it would take AMD to catch up in the ray acceleration space and to some degree AI Reconstruction techniques, not saying they needed the expertise but having a party with a direct interest in the gaming space is useful to push gaming related tech, AMD would be more than happy to just work on ROCm and AI server racks.

That said, PSSR being kinda just a worse XeSS right now shows just how hard it is to make reconstruction work and that it isn’t as simple as get some smart people in a room and just copy DLSS line by line. The amount of ML training to start to catch up with Nvidia’s 6 years of experience is huge and will require cooperation in the gaming space beyond just AMD and Sony, hopefully AMD can act as the common bridge for competitors (MS, Valve, whoever) in order to lift up these technologies for everyone because we don’t need Nvidia calling the shots long term.

The bit about how consoles have fixed framerates made my eyes roll though like sure you can set an upper limit via some kind of vsync or frame limiter but PS5 games and others are rarely hitting their framerate targets with dynamic resolution engaged and many games on console employ static resolutions too.

All in all it was a decent surface level talk that was designed for people like Digital Foundry and the like to write a blurb about BVH structures and stretch into 2 hour long talking head content pieces and whatnot for fanboys to argue about till the end of time.

I happened to be reading some old comments today about DF’s Star Wars Outlaws video and the amount of people who thought PSSR was going to be a perfect technology that would magically fix everything and leave all other upscalers in the dust is pretty funny.

Kadowa stuff is just an increased stake in the company apparently

I’m guessing the full buyout wasn’t Sony had in mind when they started the talks.

They really can’t afford it. If they try, it’s going to be a while for them to recover.

Salty console warrior tears in the comments for those that enjoy such things
