PlayStation 5 |OT| This SSD has no limits

There are people out there who specifically put games aside (like Outlaws, which isn’t old) in order to experience them with the Pro when it came out. Similarly for Silent Hill 2. These games are recent enough that we’re not really talking about going through your back catalog just to try things.

Yeah, I can see and agree with this. If I didn’t already play Rebirth/Stellar Blade (which seem to be the best two games that have received Pro upgrades), I would be more impressed but those who are replaying them or acting like they somehow became 10’s or some shit are just delusional.

Personally, im waiting for the future Sony published games because I know their studios will take full advantage of it. It’s what the PS5 Pro is for me anyway.

Also what all the fanboys are forgetting is the sheer number of people involved in DLSS, improving it for so many years now - obviously the developers do a lot of the work but Nvidia has a huge team that develops driver updates with the devs specifically for major game releases, and helps to investigate issues.

They’ll often release two updates a month (in addition to developers releasing game updates) to add / improve support for more games (often 4 new big games at a time are fully optimised by them, plus fixes for others).

Their graphics cards are silly prices but at least they understand if you’re charging top dollar you have to provide a top tier service - whereas Sony appear to have taken the cheap option of dumping the implementation almost entirely on the developers…

The PS5 Pro really is outrageously overpriced. I mean let’s call a spade a spade here: it’s daylight robbery charging 800 euros for the Pro when the digital edition PS5 is currently 375 euros on Amazon.

The biggest tech improvement for the users this gen was VRR , hands down. The very first thing people need to invest in for better console gaming is a 120hz VRR capable TV. With that, you’re golden. Good to go. But I’ve literally seen examples of people who’re still on a 60hz TV… upgrading to a PS5 Pro because of blind loyalty to the brand.

It’s… mindboggling.

I had my hands on a DualSense 30th anniversary edition and man, it’s so much better than the pictures give, I didn’t think the color looked great in pictures but it looks beautiful irl, I think the texture is even better? not sure. But the prices it’s being sold for… oof. I’d get it if I had money to throw, but even then I wouldn’t really want to use it a lot and more for keeping, lol.

The color in pictures always seemed off for the original PSX grey, so that’s a relief to hear. I won’t be able to get one, but I hope those that can still get them, without having to go through scalpers, can

It’s price gouged everywhere I looked and the guy whose controller I tried bought 5 of them and is selling for the equivalent of $130 :skull: and I think even that is cheaper than what others are selling them for.

I believe Sony said they’re restocking, kinda seems like they missed a chance not selling them for $100 themselves lol

I don’t disagree with anything you said.

I wasn’t going to buy the PlayStation 5 Pro or the Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Edition but once I bought the Galaxy Black edition, I was going to trade in my launch model Series X and then thought, what if I trade in the launch model PS5 as well?

Traded them in to GameStop and got $640 in credit for them. So for $60 out of pocket, buying a PS5 Pro was worth it since for Sony, the generation is only half over. Between the PS5 Pro and 2TB XSX, I spent $660 out of pocket so basically $330 for each after trading in both the older models.

In time, I will trade in the 2TB XSX when the next gen Xbox launches and the PS5 Pro when PS6 launches which is what I normally do every generation since once I move on to new hardware, the old hardware is gone.

The PS5 digital edition being on sale for $380 in the U.S. and elsewhere is a fucking steal in my opinion even more so if the person buying it is already digital only.

VRR is great and has smoothed out a bunch of games this generation. No argument there.

Mat Piscatella ‪@matpiscatella.bsky.social‬ Astro Bot reached #19 on the Circana Player Engagement Tracker PS5 US daily active user chart on Dec 13th - the highest since placing 15th on the 15th of September - but that TGA bump faded by the next day.

On Dec 13th, for every 1 US Astro Bot player on PS5, more than 20 launched Call of Duty HQ.

Oof, platformers have such a hard time, man.

Worked better for Elden and BG3. People are truly picky.

those are both everywhere, as well. It’s tough as a console-only exclusive.

I think people overestimate the userbase to be very open to play anything, especially for PS.

As they have for years, software sales per user are actually pretty terrible on PS and have been since PS3 :man_shrugging:

That sucks. Astro Bot is the only 3D platformer that I have ever completed. Really hoping Sony green lights a sequel.

Keep in mind that Astro Bot is a 15-hour game vs. 100+ for Elden Ring or BG3. Most people would’ve been done with it after one week.

The bump only lasted a day. I would have understood that. Unless everyone just speed run in a day and call it a night right after. Even so, not enough.

Not sure what to make of the Astrobot GOTY win honestly. It feels a little like the best picture Oscar going to an extremely good but little seen foreign-language art film or something.

Like congrats to the small segment of old school, 40-something Sony diehards patting themselves on the back over this win, but if the other 98% of the audience doesn’t care about Astrobot in particular or platformers in general… is this really a good situation?

You should really give Psychonaughts 2 a play. I know you didn’t have any interest in it before, but it really is a GOTY tier platformer game.
