PlayStation 5 |OT| This SSD has no limits

Apparently the feature of ‘time played’ in your games is a generational megaton.

Hmm…

What is that feature ?

Your profile says how long you spent playing each game, much like xbox has had for years.

Ah yeah, that’s true ^^

Fantastic as in just as great as Xbox? Can’t watch now, I’m on mobile internet and having a long walk with the dog.

Ha ha, I know that feeling. I still haven’t had a chance to view it but based on the comments I’ve seen (grain of salt):

  • Series X loads BC games faster overall
  • PS5 hits 60fps more consistently in games with unlocked framerate because
  • Series X prioritizes resolution, so there are more dips/worse performance

I’m generally ignorant about this sort of thing though and it’s based on hearsay so again, grain of salt. I think in terms of BC it shakes out to MS’s is better because they put more work in which is to be expected. Strong showing from Sony though, it seems, which is great news for PS4-exclusive games (and PS-only gamers).

P.S.: Your dog is adorable

Interesting. I wonder why XSX prioritizes resolution, since it’s just the hardware doing all this, no dev input at all. Interesting all the same that Xbox loads games faster.

I still wonder, will all BC games on PS4 play in boost mode? I recall Sony saying select games, while pretty much any BC game on XSX benefits greatly.

Thanks for the nice words about my dog, Yeah Lara is the best.

It comes froms Xbox One X games having in general higher resolution.

Correct. PS4 Pro games dont pixel push in that regard and prioritize the framerate tad more compared to the One X Counterparts.

I really want to stress that I didn’t watch anything or deduce anything first-hand, it’s possible that it’s something like 98% 60fps Series X 99% 60fps PS5.

It’s not that SX prioritizes resolution. Both Ps5 and SX are running the games locked at the Pro and X settings.

What’s happening here is that there was a big gap in some of those games between pro and X versions and now in BC mode the SX is not able to quite lock it to 60 (but it does get it pretty close).

Perhaps it’s something Ms can help iron out the few edge cases too, right now the games are running in gcn mode on SX and don’t get the rdna2 architecture improvements (higher IPC, etc) which alone would make it able to lock everything given how close it already is.

There is quite a lot of limits now. But it’s fine.

Any word on how long the DualSense battery life is?

I don’t know if this is good or bad but i will definitely switch off those vibration features if i am only getting 2 hours from the single charge.

From the reports 2-4 hours in games that really push the sensors (Astrobot), 7 hours in a “regular” game.

Look, the PS5 is a fine console I am sure that I will eventually get like I do all consoles to play a handful of exclusives. But here are some things from the reviews that really make me excited about my Series X for next Tuesday!

  • No ‘Quick Resume’ feature
  • Controller battery life about 2 hours if using the new features even playing the Astro’s packin game
  • No SSD expansion options at launch
  • No VRR
  • BC doesn’t appear to be using full power like Xbox (AC Unity as an example), but can in some cases have more stable frame rates due to using the PS4 Pro game build that was lower resolution than the Xbox One X game build
  • Can’t install PS5 games to an external USB drive at all
