Same size as the revision, so that it can use the disc drive
My assumption is that PS5 Pro exists to make PlayStation the best platform for GTA 6.
They started plans for PS5 Pro years ago but miscalculated the release date of GTA6… they decided to release PS5 Pro anyway. The confusion about why it exists is simply because it was made for a game that doesn’t exist yet. Now it’s Xbox’s Turn to try and speed development of its next gen Xbox Hybrid console to gain the GTA6 bragging rights.
It exists because they did it last time and Jim had no clue what he was doing before they canned him.
Yes that too… definitely trying to just copy the same playbook .
Once DF starts making their videos and zooming in 300%.
$1199 AUD, plus $150 for the optional disk drive.
If you dont like it you can always get a second job

Watched the 10 minute Cerny presentation and just sounds like hoopla and PR. The tech is good but man, does Sony know how to over sell their shit. Like Jesse said during the live stream, they’re basically trying to be Apple.

Yeah, im not paying $700 for better Ray Tracing which I don’t even give two shits about. I’m all digital now so the disc drive wouldn’t up the price but does it at least come with a horizontal stand? I know the vertical stand is an add on, literally. lol

Watching the presentation twice, im sorry but outside of cleaning up the blurriness in the background of Spider Man 2, I wasn’t impressed whatsoever.

Last generation, PlayStation 4 was my primary gaming console so I bought the PS4 Pro because it was a bigger leap than the PS5 Pro because it introduced 4K (via upscaling techniques), but more importantly for me back in late 2016 was HDR. That made Horizon Zero Dawn “pop”. Easily worth the $400 even though I traded in my base PS4 so it cost me less.

The PS5 Pro is basically for the hardcore and I would think that they would trade in their base PS5 which will probably cut down the price in half. My friend already bought the disc drive attachment since he rents games from GameFly and will buy it day one or pre-order. Not sure which.

I really hope the rumors of the State of Play being only third party multi-platform games and Indies is 100% false because if not, oh man, then I don’t know what the hell Sony is doing. A few studios have to be ready to show their games by now.

While I will admit that I thought about buying the PS5 Pro after trading in the base PS5 before today, after today, I figure that there’s not much point in me doing so. It’s not primary gaming console and haven’t had any major issues with the performance of it for the games I have played and completed on it. Not only that but I do believe that next gen Xbox is Fall 2026 followed by PlayStation 6 in Fall 2028 so why upgrade now when I can just wait for the next Xbox which will obviously be superior and then possibly PlayStation 6 being superior.

With the money im now saving (even though the cost would have been around half due to the fact that I would have traded in my base PS5), buying a Switch 2 day one is becoming much more likely.
I have the base PS4 I got for 399 euros back in 2013 still hooked up to my TV. I use it for the occasional Bloodborne playthrough. It has HDR as well (I don’t know when Sony patched that into the system but games like Days Gone definitely have HDR on the base PS4).
But that machine (PS4) was a trojan horse. It was released at a time when Sony was hellbent on capitalizing on the Xbox One’s missteps by attracting former 360 owners over to the PlayStation ecosystem with a cheaper higher spec console than MS’s offering at the time.
What we’re seeing now though… is the final culmination of that plan. I don’t necessarily have a problem with a niche product aimed at the hardcore enthusiasts (fair enough, if people want it they can buy it), but the actual specs here are an insult.
+45% rendering over the base PS5 somehow merits a price jump from 450 euros for the digital edition PS5… up to 800 euros for the PS5 Pro (which is also discless). I mean the maths are funky as well. It’s an underpowered product which will absolutely have performance issues during its lifespan - like every console invariably does.
And that’s the crux, it’s a games console. There’s no such thing as a perfect console which runs every game flawlessly. That’s why consoles need to be priced competitively. 800 euros for the console experience (with a 4 year shelf life as well) is a bad joke.
I also think the industry execs are creepy as hell in many ways, especially with regards a certain GTA6.
It’s like they know there’s 200 million people who want to buy GTA6 day one… so they assume they can sell a higher spec machine at a premium price to a percentage of that number based on the premise of having the best performance. The console exclusivity of GTA6 ties into that dynamic.
It’s like Les Grossman is in charge of corporations like Sony & publishers like Rockstar.
You are probably not far off lol, because I struggle to see the point from Sony’s perspective for the Pro. At least with the the PS4 Pro Sony, said it was an attempt to keep people from going to PC as the generation progresses, but Sony is putting games on PC now.
The most I can see is that they should be making a little bit of profit on this thing at least, so it would show up in their financial results.
Wow seems the Sony Defence Force has rallied - while many normal gamers are pissed about the price and PS4 games being used for the comparisons, the “it’s cheaper than a PC that can do 4K/60” (failing to realise it’s upscaled not native, so not a top end RTX comparison) and “shut up peasants” responses appear to be trying to flood social media and comments sections now…
LOL, I literally had to freeze frame to try and see the difference, which you of course won’t do during a fight in-game!
Their efforts would would have been better enhancing the player models or lighting not the definition on the (out of focus) tree.
Before the presentation I wanted to buy the PS5 pro. I already had a Series X, so I thought the PS5 was a bit redundant. After seeing that it’s €800 without a disk drive I think I’ll pass.
I think I’ll wait for black friday to get a good deal on a normal PS5. I haven’t had a PlayStation since the PS3, so I have a lot of PS4 titles to try plus Astro Bot.
What do you guys think? Is the PS5 worth it even though I don’t game that much anymore?
For comparison here is Jensen Huang introducing Turing.
This was 2018.
Now you pay 800 bucks for your raytracing upgrade and are still not there.
Geoff’s defense tweet got community noted. Oh boy.
