It’s a shame Insomniac became a Marvel factory, understandable, not gonna lie, but still a shame.
its a typical 8/10 game. Perfect game to buy on sale and play it through a weekend
I agree. I paid $75 after tax day 1 and it was probably one of the most regrettable videogame purchases I’ve ever made. Definitely a sale price game.
To each their own but I loved Rift Apart. Never played a Ratchet game until the remake in 2016. It was a great 8.5/10 for me and Rift Apart is even better. I’m not a huge “kiddy/platformer” gamer because you have to give me good combat which is more than just stomping on enemies heads. Ratchet has melee, shooting and gadgets to play with. It keeps the combat/gameplay fresh and entertaining especially as you unlock/purchase/acquire more weapons and gadgets.
The platforming was also really good, game looks amazing and the story/characters is a little darker than you would think that it would be. Again, to each their own but I loved Rift Apart and looking forward to the next one more than any of the Insomniac Marvel games which I love too but there’s too damn many of them now.
Chris Dring interviews Mark Cerny about his career. He touches upon, among other things
- the surprise that there isn’t more 30fps games
- how developers take on multi-roles in their career
- calling out Linus Tech Tips on their video trying to create a low cost PC that outdoes the PS5
- how much he’s a gamer
- and when he’s going to retire.
I think Searsy clarified it well when I posted it originally:
“we aren’t bound by any particular standards. So if we have a brainstorm that audio can become much more immersive and dimensional if there’s a dedicated unit that’s capable of complex math, then we can do that.”
Ah yes, Tempest Audio. Definitely something “new” and not them refusing to pay the Dolby or DTS:X licenses. Plus having an audio block first happened with the One X.
If anyone if interested in the early Concord beta:

They have to be renewed by 10 am PDT on July 11.
The PS4 was pretty magical, wasn’t it? Not to say it was without its flaws, droughts, or critique, but the PS5 really makes you look back on it fondly.
It was definitely my favourite PS console, that said if it actually had competition from Xbox I don’t know if I would think about it as fondly.
PlayStation 4 is my #1 all time gaming console. Xbox Series X should beat it out for me but we’ll see as the generation isn’t over yet.
I had about 20 games from Sony, all the third party support, many Japanese games before they were ported to Xbox and a few third party exclusives. Such an excellent gaming console. My only major negatives were 1) the horrible battery life for the Dual Shock 4 and 2) the horrible touch pad which is basically nothing more than an oversized world map button.
But game wise, despite the slow start until 2016, the console nailed pretty much everything that I wanted so no other negatives here.
As for PlayStation 5, while it remains to be seen as the generation isn’t over yet, for me personally, the first three and a half years on PlayStation 5 has been better than PlayStation 4. I didn’t have a single game higher than a 7.0/10 for me until 2016 where as with PlayStation 5, every game has been a 9 or 9.5 excluding Ronin which is an 8.0/10.
And im only talking about the games Sony has published. If I add Japanese RPG’s (will be playing Ys IX after Flintlock) like Rebirth and FF XVI, the console games wise becomes even stronger for me and blows away PlayStation 4.
Barring a collapse which I don’t see happening whatsoever, PlayStation 5 will end up being the best PlayStation gaming console for me personally and end up being the best secondary gaming console of all time as Series X is my primary.
The only PlayStation console that I would even consider for my top 5 consoles is the original.
Interesting exercise…
-
NES
-
Dreamcast
-
PS2
-
Xbox One
-
N64
My top 5 (all were my primary gaming console for their respective generation) -
- PlayStation 4
- Xbox 360
- Super Nintendo
- PlayStation
- PlayStation 2
Mine would probably be:
- Sega Genesis
- NES
- Xbox/Xbox 360 (Tie)
- PlayStation
- Dreamcast
Spot #5 was a tough call between it and the SNES
Aww who am i kidding I loved every console. Too hard to choose the best.
I even loved the stupid 32x and Sega cd
Liking all of them doesn’t mean some aren’t better than others, or more specifically, preferred over others. It’s not just games or hardware it also time and place.
For me the NES isn’t towards the top because the games hold up the best but because I associate it with waking up and watching Saturday morning cartoons, reading Nintendo Power and talking about it on the playground, and riding my bike to the video store to spend my allowance on game rentals and candy.
Or the Xbox being the first game console I bought with my own money out of high school and coinciding with my online MP phase (started with quake 3 on PC).
PS4 is my least favorite PlayStation console easily. PS1 and PS2 have tons of classics I love, and the PS3 had the Uncharted series and TLOU among others. The PS4 generation didn’t really produce anything I was interested in. I even prefer the PSP and Vita to PS4.
Top 5 consoles
