Bloat? Do you have examples of this? I did read a comment that it might have tons of side quests, but who really cares when it’s the usual open world boring fetch quests.
Sony Tax Rebates. Some of the reviews the written text does not match the scores. Those reviewers know the flaws yet scored it artificially high.
Been playing it as well, it’s gotta be nostalgia clouding people.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great game so far but certainly not a masterpiece.
That is what i felt with the 87 MC score from FF7 Remake after playing it, i didn’t even want to know more about this remake series, but this Rebirth game’s great so far, i just got at Nibelheim for the second time and i’m really curious about how’s the game going to end, and excited already for the latest entry of the remake series.
Not doing most of the side quests stuff tho, but the core part of the game is big enough, game’s got a lot of content, variety, nice cutscenes, incredible OST and music usage, etc.
Wouldn’t call it a masterpiece as it’s a remake after all, and it has flaws such as pacing sometimes, it can get really childish, and the technical aspect is weak, but it’s definitely a 9/10 game and i see it being my GOTY this year unless Avowed ends up being surprisingly good

It’s up to us Americans to carry them! Nostalgia and boyhood dream coming true aka Tifa in swimsuit are enough power for us to buy!
The PlayStation Exclusive bonus strikes again. It’s weird. According to the DF tech review this game has some serious issues, like textures not loading. You know, similar to “Redfail.”
10/10
I would go as far as to call this a bad launch for the Japanese release. I was actually expecting this to at least be comfortably past XVI there, but it’s noticeably behind.

It is also not great that the game’s been out for a week and we have not been given a sales report. Both FF7R1 and XVI at least put one out after 3 days.
No sales report is all you need to know about how they feel about it internally.
I guess it’s up to journalist to save the day.
“Why this game is absolute must buy right now!”
“Why spending $70 is chump change for this game!”
“Don’t wait! Buy it now with console if you haven’t gotten one already”
“Elden Ring of 2024”
“Game of the Generation will never come this close”
Switch and Xbox will never obtain this masterpiece. Here’s why”
Looking at the sales (or lack thereof in Japan, literally), makes me wonder whether this routine is now a known quantity, aka people have been burned by way too many 9/10’s or 10/10’s, i.e. overrated slogs given underserved praise by a gaming press all too willing to act like an extension of the game’s marketing.
I find this a very encouraging trend tbh. 80 euros for a video game is a lot of money. People are clearly not blindly following Metacritic’s advice & that’s a good thing.
I’m sure we’ll see generic “within expectations wink wink” update from SE a week or so from now.

Update is here, but wait after hotfix. Bizarre how Insomniac is affected with development issue from hack to bug.
Rebirth isn’t a perfect 10/10 but it is at least an excellent 9.0/10. If the bloat is the biggest negative you (or others have), then it probably should be closer to a 10/10 because that means everything else is superb. I stopped rating the optional side content this generation because I realized that it’s the same stuff in every game and it’s optional. There’s a few mini-games I don’t like at all so I simply don’t participate in them unless I have to. There’s some activities and whatnot that I actually enjoy plus the side content unlocks stuff in the combat simulator.
Outside of Queen’s Blood and the Piano mini games, im pretty much doing everything because it’s all enjoyable, relaxing or a good change of pace. The four main aspects that I care about - combat/gameplay, story/characters, visuals and audio in that order are all near perfect for me so no major complaints.
My biggest issues is forcing me to play the mini-games especially Queen’s Blood which I don’t like at all and just YouTube them when I have to. Other than that, not being able to jump is annoying for enemies in the air and not being able to remove a lot of stuff on the HUD like damage numbers, notifications, etc. is actually far worse for me personally than any of the optional side content or bloat because that stuff I can simply ignore if I want to.
Also, I can’t speak on the nostalgia aspect because I played the original back then for literally 10 minutes and gave it right back to my friend. Four random battles in that time span walking up those train steps from the platform and game was done. Never played the original again and im happy I didn’t because the current what will be a trilogy is far superior for me personally. No random battle bullshit which I fucking despise, real time combat which I will always prefer over turn based while also having slowdown/turn based options for spells, items and abilities during combat. Doesn’t slow down the game or the pacing of the combat which is great and a huge positive for me.
The open world itself though is great. I’m on Chapter 7 and I have liked every area/region that I have gone to. No complaints here at all whatsoever. I also love exploring the entire world defogging the map and seeing what’s there and collecting every resource known to man which I do in every game.
To each their own but as of right now, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is my 2024 game of the year and based on the games that’s on my list with a confirmed release date, it’s not losing to any of them. But even for me, it’s still not a 10/10.
If I can get a Chrono Trigger remake like this, oh fuck yeah!!! Gimme, gimme, gimme!!!
Works for me!!! lmao
Difference is that despite textures loading in, Rebirth is at it’s core, an excellent game. Redfall fucking sucked and was a massive disappointment for me personally. But to each their own.
That always makes me roll my eyes. So your expectations were to sell 30% less then FF16?
Imagine a Ubisoft open world with much worse side quest and added mini games to pad hours. I think they added bloat to make the game seem artificially longer, but I feel the bloat ruins the pacing of the game. Its the issue in the first one, but this one is much worse in that regard. The combat in this game is good and story is good for what it is, but it’s def not a masterpiece like reviews are saying and if this wasn’t a remake of a beloved game. Then I think it would get killed in that regard imo
I am playing on graphic mode due to performance looking awful. There’s quite a bit of pop in
I have seen an argument on the reason why the sale is lowered is due to core base of the platform being low in compare to PS4. I’ll counter that with 16, which is not far away from the release. Not only that, but 16 has even lesser install base at that time since PS5 was on the rise of sale thanks to fixing the supply issue.
Many really don’t want to submit on the idea that exclusive hurts the sale. If it was on other platform, they will easily agree to it. But this is PS. No way it can be true. Granted, I can’t say it’s true either, but I do believe it’s part of it.
Square is in a weird spot where all of their competitors like Capcom, Bandai, and Sega were able to grow their franchises by going multiplat. Meanwhile, Square’s biggest IP has remained stagnant and heading towards a decline. I don’t understand skipping out PC for a Sony deal.
Not gonna lie, that ruins my excitement to finally play these games sometime later this year, lol. It’s kinda crazy the kind of numbers reviews throw around when it has stuff like this. Witcher 3 scored super high too and deservingly so because the main and side content was top notch.

That’s wild. You can actually play God Mode and no one can hurt you.
