Rebirth will sell more digitally than physically especially since there’s a Remake/Rebirth combo pack for $70. If you don’t already own Remake, why wouldn’t you do this if you’re interested or going to buy Rebirth?
Hopefully this is the last exclusivity deal that Square agree too. Especially when it’s been revealed Persona has hit 22m sales worldwide. Amazing what happens when you go multi plat.
So… what’s the dualsense controller like? It’s the one thing on PS5 I’m curious about (& there’s rumors Xbox is going to release its own haptic gamepad later this year).
Ergonomically, it is an improvement over the Dual Shock 4, although I didnt have problems with it. It is almost as good as the Xbox controller.
Haptics are awesome. I love it. I cant go back to old rumble and new Xbox controller cant come soon enough.
Adaptive triggers I dont like that much for now. Cant clearly see the point.
All in all, a great controller.
I wish they would change the trackpad to maybe a E-Ink touchscreen instead.
Outside of the adaptive triggers the trackpad feels like one of the most useless features on the controller.
From what I understand the trackpad is also one of the features which currently drains the most battery so they should either get rid of it or change it IMO.
I hate the touch pad. It’s an oversized world map button. Wish Sony would go back to the start/select buttons that they had pre-PS4. I’m not a fan of the adaptive triggers or the haptics. I keep all that stuff turned off on the system level.
I don’t find it very practical to use in game either. Although the controller is a bit more ergonomic now, it’s still very uncomfortable for me therefore the location of the trackpad makes it almost unusable.
The start/select buttons are much easier to reach/use, especially when the start was really close to the square button (it’s now closer to the triangle).
Agreed. I do like that the controller is more bulky and solid. I just don’t like the touch pad and gimmicks. Of course, I just want the controller to be a standard basic controller with great battery life which is all I need/want from any controller. Xbox One controller I use for Series X is near perfect in this regard and my personal best/favorite controller. Dual Sense has horrible battery life to where I just play wired since I don’t many games on PlayStation 5 and don’t want to recharge the controller twice in a day. lol
I’ve always wondered whether this is intentional on Sony’s part, to get people to buy extra controllers. The capacity of the built-in battery is an actual, literal joke. (About 60% of a single AA rechargeable.)
And the €240 DualSense Edge (Xbox Elite equivalent) comes with an even smaller one! It’s almost as if they’re trying to see just how much they can rip their fans off before they capitulate.
But you know… damn Microsoft ruining the gaming industry again!
I think the triggers (from my understanding) should help with racing games for example, i.e. like a force feedback wheel. They should theoretically allow for better control of the throttle going into corners when the player can feel some physical resistance in the fingers.
I was also curious about how the dualsense performs with older games which don’t have haptics. I play a lot of backwards compatible titles so I wonder how the internal components manage to replicate the old rumble with the new technology in the controller (like playing Dark Souls & classics like that).
Agree in regards to the controller’s battery life.
I think I played some games on PS4 where it was used with gestures and to trace stuff. That was cool. But yeah, in most cases it is just a big ass button.
This is a very personal thought, but I would like a controller which replaces the right stick for a trackpad, alas Steam controller, to control the camera and other actions.
Havent tried it yet but it is my understanding that Sony developed an algorithm to translate the old rumble into haptic feedback. I guess it would be a softer rumble with no nuances to it.
If the new Xbox controller is indeed real, MS will have to design a similar solution.
Yeah it does things like swiping down to bring up the map, if I remember correctly Ghost of Tsushima did a thing where you swipe it to generate wind. It still felt very gimmicky and not practical at all. I’d much prefer a smaller button I can easily access.
It’s an interesting thought! I suspect the trackpad would alienate more people than a thumbstick would, it could however be a better implementation then it is currently!
I think gyro support would help more with aiming/pointing IMO. Hopefully they do implement it with the new Xbox controller so it becomes more mainstream.
The only addition that I would love to see in the console controllers is paddles (if not 4 at least 2 new buttons) becoming standard but we all know that this won’t happen anytime soon with MS and Sony selling those Elite/Edge controllers for a premium price. Gyro support would be kinda cool though, I am not the biggest fan of it but it should be standard going forward.
Also maybe going all in on hall effect analogue sticks would be very welcome as well, Jesse’s very positive impressions on them makes me really curious to see how they feel.
Yeah, I think aiming would be “easier”/“more intuitive” with a trackpad compared with a stick, but would probably come with other problems.
Gyro is cool and could work but you really have to work on its implementation.
Oh absolutely, I primarily play on Switch with the Hori Pad Pro which has paddles. It feels weird going back to a controller without but like you say they will probably keep that a ‘premium’ feature.
The rumour is the new haptic controller has replaceable (modular) sticks, so it would be awesome if hall effect is a option. I’m guessing they would again be a premium option. If the new controller doesn’t have replaceable sticks I would guess the would keep hall effect sticks for the elite too.
Yeah there’s lots of games which already do support it on PC for example Call of Duty.
There’s an example here of it on ROG Ally which does make aiming so much quicker/easier:
There’s the XIM Nexus, if people are looking for a gyro-equipped gamepad. It costs a pretty penny, though.
