I suppose the game has MCU effect as well. Strong opening, massive drop in the following week. All about the long run.
I thought the Spiderman 2 numbers must be a bit on the meh side considering we’d heard nothing for a couple of weeks (Sony’s first-party studios like to release boast posts about their numbers).
It’s still a lot of copies… but it’s within the range of expected (probably on the lower end considering the hype & the fact it cracked the 90 ceiling on metacritic). I still think the PS5 sells first & foremost due to brand recognition & multiplatform releases like all the usual stuff at the top of the sales charts (EA Sports FC, Fortnite & COD are all ahead of Spiderman 2 in France for example on the top games list for the country right now).
Everyone had crazy high expactations with it considering Spiderman is one of the most recognisable characters in fiction and most popular hero and spiderman has never been this strong in people consciousness so seeing the game not being able to beat GOWR really surprises me.
To be fair god of war was cross gen and Spider-Man is ps5 only
That Twitter post is pure genius lol
I think it “only” accounted for 30% of the copies sold at most.
“SEVERAL SIGNS ARE POINTING TOWARDS SONY MAKING ACQUISTIONS!!!”
Like what? Their razor thin profit margins? PlayStation is one of, if not the most, successful parts of Sony, and SIE would still have to beg corporate to get the funding to acquire any of the fanboys’ dream acquisitions.
Also, super LOL at Rockstar, which is going to be even more un-acquirable after GTA 6 releases to massive sales.
Yeah if anything, it points to the contrary (doing less acquisitions) lol
Not to mention, they don’t have the capital…
For those that disagree, I’ve heard from supposedly-business minded folks for years that they could take out a loan to cover the billions it would take… so then I ask, why didn’t they after the first string of acquisitions, and why didn’t they after Bethesda? It’s because of the simple fact that the company is notoriously conservative about taking on debt after it lost 90% of its value in the 00s (it was so even before then, now obviously even more so), and the last five years have done nothing to prove me wrong.
Sony reduced their acquisitions and mergers spending by 20% so I can see a publisher like Arc System Works but people dreaming of Take Two Interactive or others are going to end up having nightmares since it’s not happening.
Plus Take Two would be bonkers to do such a thing, they really don’t need it at all with the cash cow that is GTAO and the cash cow 6 will be.
Agreed. I can see Sony acquiring studios including mobile and PC port studios but publishers, it’s highly unlikely.
Literally the only way I see Take-Two changing hands is to someone big like Google or Apple. That or merging with another gaming company like EA or Epic. Sony was always going to be a pipe dream .
I wouldn’t be surprised if Xbox did have that discussion pre-ABK. We know they were looking at Zynga too.
Agreed. An EA/TTI merger would definitely be interesting to see play out if that were to happen.
I think I would equally be interested what they would call themselves - Electronic Arts Take Two just sounds like a mouthful (or like EA failed and is trying again
)!
Or TenCent but that’s just my TakeTwoCents.
The Spec II update is breathing a lot of new life into Gran Turismo 7 for me. The new snow track is a lot of fun and the weekly challenges and event directory do a lot to add structure and goals which the game really needed. I can definitely see myself popping in to do the challenges every week, especially in between new tours in Forza.
I do not see that. FTC has named the fusion of Activision Blizzard and King an abomination that should have never been allowed. I do not see EA and Take Two having the patience of MS to endure a rebutal.
Sony has yet to see positive output from buying Bungie which was an outlier price for them. If they buy something, I am expecting some consolidation on some small company that already focus on playstation.
