Hey guys, I’m looking for recommendations for great films to watch. I have an obscene backlog of films I’d like to experience, and I recently decided to start chipping away at it. The last few nights I’ve watched Dune (2021), A Haunting in Venice and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. While I have my own list, I was hoping to get some recs from some of you to either help me decide or to turn me onto films that might not be on my list.
So yeah, if you guys have any films, both past and present, you think are exceptional and worth a watch please let me know.
Some films that I watched/re-watched recently and liked:
Song of the Sea (2014)
Animation with a simple story, but beautifully executed in every way.
Blindspotting (2018)
Fun and serious. About friendship, race, class and more.
Doubt (2008)
Amazing acting. The story and especially the ending might not be for everyone, but I really like it.
Paris, Texas (1984)
Slow and quiet, but touching and emotional. Every frame is a painting.
On the Count of Three (2021)
A well acted good drama/dark comedy.
One Cut of the Dead (2017)
Don’t watch the trailers or read anything about it. But don’t worry, the previous suggestions might not be for everyone, but most people will like this.
Been watching the Critters movies today, for the first time. These are late 80s movies and then into 90s and the creatures look surprisingly good. But that can be said for Gremlins too.
I believe this is called practical effects? That over CGI any day, please let Gremlins 3 not be a CGI fest.
Yes, practical effects are generally better, but can be more expensive and time-consuming, hence a lot of modern movies use CGI. It’s a shame, as a lot of the CGI is poorly done and spoils a lot of horror movies for me.
that’s probably why the views for the trailer are high and how i know MS/xbox don’t do ads on youtube or barely because its always half a million views for their videos
David Ellison’s Skydance is said to have made a preliminary offer to buy Shari Redstone’s stake in National Amusements, the family holding company that controls Paramount Global, according to a Bloomberg report. Reps for Skydance, National Amusements and Paramount Global declined to comment. Deadline is hearing the the situation is “status quo” regarding Skydance’s pursuit of the media company, which was first reported in Deadline in early December, and there’s a way to go in clinching a deal for the ultimate prize, Paramount Global.
Binged the first season as every episode was released, did the same with the second. Legit one of my favorite shows I’ve seen in the last decade; have binged both seasons now with the wife and I think I’m on watch session five at this point.
That monologue Carmy has near the end of the first season (at the AA meeting) fucking gutted me… that show has a lot of personal meaning for me, and in a lot of ways that first season was a form of catharsis having gone through the same.
Wow, I guess that rules out the whole MS go after Paramount discussion in the acquisition thread. They have been working closely for years so it makes sense.
Just didn’t expect them to have the capital to do it.
So, I did something I know I shouldn’t have done and watched the rest of Warrior S3 when I know it was canceled… That was one of the best f’ed up finales I’ve seen. “Are we done?” might officially be the coldest line ever uttered on TV. Also, he was just a business man .
