Movies and TV shows thread

The Exorcist :Believer

The trailer looked promising, but while it has some cool scenes it overall fell flat for me. It’s missing something. I do appreciate that they tried something new’ish with the two girls instead of one person being possessed, but it’s lacking something. Talk to Me so far probably still is my favorite horror of 2023.

Last week I saw a classic in the cinema, Shutter Island, still such a damn great movie.

I can’t wait for Killers of the Flower Moon. Scorsese and Dicaprio is just a winning team.

If you got Disney + then I really recommend the show The Patient.

It’s on Starz. It’s with Steve Carrell and I can promise you, you’ve never seen him acting in such a serious role as this. He’s been in more serious roles before, but this is way different. It’s dark, suspenseful and I find it quite good, different.

Do we know when this will stream on Apple TV? It won’t be showing near me

I have no idea about Apple, probably soon after? I recall some movies releasing like that. I saw a trailer at the theater here, so I’m definitely checking it out that way.

I’m looking forward to Napoloan with joaquin phoenix and how they adapt since i watched mini series on it

Backdraft was a pretty good and hokey 90s action thriller about firemen and it stars a great cast. The portrayal of firefighting in this movie is so ridiculous that it works. It commits.

Kurt Russel playing both the father and the older son threw me through a loop at first lol. Do any other movies do this or something similar?

Just watched SAW X in the theater.

When I saw the trailer a while ago I just sighed. Ten freaking movies? And while the first one remains great and maybe one or two more are enjoyable as well it overall had just become ridiculous and not interesting anymore. Critics apparently were happy with X, so that made me curious.

And I can see why they are happy with it. It’s a surprisingly good movie. Tobin Bell gets the most screentime he’s had yet in the franchise and pays off for sure.

it’s funny they killed him yet he still appears so what was the point then

The reason he appears in this one makes sense though. I will spoiler tag it.

This movie takes place between 1 and 2. It’s basically the real Saw 2 in my opinion. The thing is, this way they can keep making them with him in it. Watch Saw 11 taking place between 2 and 3, lol.

But I do prefer that, because without him it’s not nearly as interesting.

Killers of the Flower Moon

Fantastic movie. Superb acting all around and I just absolutely love to see De Niro like this. It’s Scorsese, so you can bet your ass he’ll bring his A game. But the same can be said about Dicaprio, absolutely fantastic. And what a story this is.

I knew extremely little when I went into this movie. I see Scorsese, and I know I need to see it, it’s that simple. Modern movie makers just don’t make them like this anymore, so I hope Scorsese can bless us with several more movies. He’s already working on a new movie with Dicaprio, so he’s not wasting time!

It’s very long, and admittedly it builds up, so it can be a bit slow at the beginning but it’s never boring and not a moment is wasted. The less you know about the story, the better.

It’s amazing that Scorsese is 80 and he is still releasing excellent films. He is probably my favourite director.

As for the film, I have been hearing nothing but good things about it and that the performances are right up there.

Yeah man, it seems this man doesn’t miss. And Scorsese - Dicaprio is just a winning team, wow. But again, so good to see De Niro this great again. When I saw the trailer I was afraid he might be briefly in it, not at all, he has a huge role in it. Throughout the years he’s been in all kinds of forgettable and meh movies but he’s superb here.

I’m gonna check to see if I actually have seen every Scorsese movie.

Well, there it is! fuck. It sucks, but it is what it is.

first one was good so i’m down

David Robert Mitchell and Maika Monroe are reuniting on “They Follow,” a sequel to the 2014 cult horror hit, “It Follows.” Neon, the Oscar-winning studio behind “Parasite,” will co-produce the movie and release it domestically. The studio will introduce it to international buyers at this year’s American Film Market. Principal photography is set for 2024.

Mitchell returns as both writer and director for the sequel. Monroe will reprise her lead role of Jay Height from “It Follows.” The sequel reunites the filmmaking team with Neon CEO Tom Quinn. The indie executive’s previous company, Radius, released “It Follows” in theaters, where it grossed an impressive $15 million domestically on a shoe-string budget.

Good Fear Content will co-produce with Neon. Mitchell serves as a producer with Jake Weiner and Chris Bender of Good Fear Content, along with the original producers of “It Follows,” David Kaplan, Erik Rommesmo, Rebecca Green and Laura Smith.

Mitchell’s first film was the coming-of-age drama “The Myth of the American Sleepover.” In 2018, he wrote, produced and directed “Under the Silver Lake,” a darkly comic mystery that starred Andrew Garfield and Riley Keough. It debuted at Cannes. He is currently in development on a Warner Bros. and Bad Robot project with Anne Hathaway that is untitled.

Monroe recently wrapped production on Oz Perkins’ “Longlegs,” which co-stars Nicolas Cage. Neon will release that film in 2024. She previously featured in Neil Jordan’s “Greta,” as well as appeared in “Honey Boy” and “Hot Summer Nights.”

Neon’s upcoming releases include Michael Mann’s “Ferrari,” which stars Adam Driver and Penelope Cruz, and Alice Rohrwacher’s “La Chimera,” which features Josh O’Connor. It recently released the Palme d’Or winner Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall,” which is expected to be an Oscars contender.

CAA Media Finance brokered the “They Follow” deal with Neon. Mitchell is represented by CAA, Good Fear Content and David Fox at Myman Greenspan Fineman Fox Rosenberg & Light. Monroe is represented by WME and Entertainment360. The producers are represented by Hayden Godlblatt of FKKS, Allison Binder of GGSSC and Michael Weiss of Concentric Law.

The Marvels

Brie Larson was more likeable than in the previous MCU movies, she had more personality. The scenes with Samuel are always fun. And that’s about it.

Boring characters overall, the villain did nothing for me, the story was nothing special either. Same can be said about the fights. I was afraid of it after seeing Guardians 3 earlier this year, but it truly was the last great MCU movie. I don’t have any faith in what’s to come.

Big OOOOOF at those the marvels scores.

Wonder if it will beat Indy as the biffest flop of 2023

easily. The question is if it will beat the lowest grossing marvel movie, The incredible hulk.
