I will look into this! Thank you!
Just finished The Expanse season 1. It didn’t immediately grab me, but I’m hooked now. Onward we go with S2.

If you are interested in watching Bruce Lee movies, I would say to go with ‘The Way of the Dragon’. It is an underrated Bruce Lee movie and has an epic fight scene with young Chuck Norris. In fact, I would dare say it is more fun to watch than Enter the Dragon IMO, even though the latter is more fondly remembered.
Amazon Originals are a bit all over the place. (Like most other platforms, to be fair.) Some are great, others really aren’t. Might be more a “feeling” than anything else, but overall I’d rank Prime behind Netflix and Disney, on par with Apple TV (and miles ahead of our local German platforms, which are just friggin’ awful.)
In the end it depends more on the who’s producing a show rather than who’s paying for the rights.
May watch The Fisher King tonight. Any thoughts on it?
A Most Wanted Man is an excellent spy thriller that doesn’t rely on bombastic action sequences and wild twists in the story to draw in the viewer. Great cast too.
The last voyage of the Demeter
Really liked it. Interesting characters, simple story but it stays fun, never really scary but that’s OK. A movie that almost completely takes place at sea can get boring, this didn’t. Good enough CGI too.
Not completely sure if I’ve seen this. I’ll make sure to do so. PSH was a great actor. He’s a damn good villain in MI3 too.
It’s his last lead role, and the only movies he did afterward were Hunger Games Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2.
Blue Beetle
Forced humor, I didn’t find much of it funny. Some real over-acting by folks here, meh story, some cool bits but overall completely forgettable.
Ninja Turtles
Went with my 8 year old nephew today, he doesn’t speak English very well or understands it, so we unfortunately had to go to the Dutch version and I was once again reminded now much I hate seeing these kind of movies in my own language. It’s so forced, it’s so cringe, so horrible really, lol.
But that being said, a very fun movie overall. Nice story, cool action, very nice animation style. Not super happy with the redesign of April, I don’t get why that’s needed for established characters but ok.
Most of the humor fell flat for me, but that’s likely because it was in Dutch, it’s probably much more fun in English with proper, good voice actors. I plan to see it a second time and this time in original language.
I liked the first two episodes of Ashoka. The production levels are bit better than Mando imo. I like the villians, the story, and the live action versions of the Rebels characters.
I don’t normally think about these kinds of things, but there was a bunch of scenes with only female characters that was really well done. Grouping all of these female characters together felt extremely natural and was a huge contrast to some of the awkward attempts by the MCU to do the same. In Ashoka, they were scenes that just happened to have only female characters and the fact that the story is mostly driven by female characters is 100% natural.
My only criticism is that the acting felt very flat across the board. It’s not that any of the acting was bad, but it felt like the director had all of the actors play their characters and their emotions with a lot of restraint. I’m not sure if I’m an articulating this issue correctly, but please get back to me if you get what I mean.
Just watched Belfast by Kenneth Branagh and a bit disappointed it didnt live up to the hype it got last year. As someone who lived in for years, and still works in, the city (and who grew up during the final years of the troubles - the movie is set at the start of them), it was intriguing but there was something a little off and a bit inauthentic about it all.
Ah well - nat ta worry…it was better than that time sons of anarchy was set in belfast - that was hilarious.
Victor Lucas of the Electric Playground said the same thing. That the other characters matched the subdued energy of Ahsoka when they didn’t need to because they’re their own personalities. I think he also mentioned the directing possibly being the culprit.
I haven’t watched Rebels or Clone Wars so these characters are new to me.
Being a fan of The Expanse, I’m looking forward to the rest of the season because one of the actors, Wes Chatham, is playing a character. But to be honest the series hasn’t grabbed me so far despite the fact that I like the characters.
IMO it comes down to the producers and studio behind it.
I fell in love with The Expanse long ago (it’s now on Amazon, one of the best sci fi dramas out there) and looked up the producers and saw that one was the writer of some of my favourite Star Trek TNG episodes. I noticed this with Battlestar Galactica, with its producer being behind some of my favest TNG episodes. Sometimes these writers teamed up.
So I realized that this is a good indicator of whether a show could be good or not. When I saw the producer for the Halo TV show, I knew it would suck. I posted about it in the Halo thread but the guy behind it did a small town teen drama before. Never wrote or did anything in sci fi. There was no mention in any article of whether they were even a fan of Halo or familiar with it.
I’m sure they have other talents and skills that make them suitable for the role, but IMO at that point you’re hoping for a miracle.
Fallout will have more flexibility in what they’re doing but I really want it to feel like it’s in the same universe in terms of tone, humour, and emotion. All the stuff that isn’t aesthetic.
Sisu
Very fun action movie. Most of the scenes are not realistic at all, but it didn’t bother me at all. It’s very graphic, Nazis die in the most gruesome ways, which is always a pro.
Later this week The Equalizer 3, should be a good time. Denzel is pretty much always awesome.
Just watched the new TMNT film.
Beautiful to look at, interesting development of plot and surprisingly funny.
Highly recommended.
The Equalizer 3
After five years I expected more. It’s not a bad movie and Denzel is always great, but there just isn’t enough…equalising in the movie. Intro is great, but short. Then we get what felt like an hour of just a slow build up. There’s some short action here and there and the last part just felt too easy.
It’s probably done for the story, because I don’t doubt Denzel can still do it. But it’s the lesser of the three movies for me.
I’m late to the party with this but wow, Arcane is fantastic. Just finished it. Where did this come from?
I don’t know the slightest about LoL, are these all characters from the game? Because it takes barely one full episode and I already care about these characters. Extremely well made. Amazing animation style, great story too. And the villain is very, very cool!
Spoilers…
I thought Silco was awesome. Not your typical bad guy, there was more to him and his love for Jinx was genuine. That last scene was strong before he dies. At the same time we know he’s well aware of children actually running these drug operations. So he’s a piece of shit too, lol.
One thing though, it’s never explained, but why did Vander try to drown him in the first place? This was before he was this piece of shit, right?
As for Powder…
I thought it was quite interesting how her mental state has been going downhill after the time skip, but at times couldn’t help but wonder exactly why she eventually went this crazy? At the end she’s pretty much Harley Quinn. She lost her father figure Silco, so that pushed her over the edge of probably never becoming her normal self again, but before that?
Season 2 is winter 2024, right? I googled it, apparently that means from December 22 this year to March 20, 2024. That’s not too bad.
Yeah, I think it was just announced recently.
But I also see some sources saying it’s Q4 2024, that would suck.
