MLB The Show 21 launching into Game Pass Day ONE

The day Marvel (Disney) forces Playstation (Sony) to make Spiderman game multi-platform like MLB :scream:

I agree MS should be in acquisition mode first and foremost. Be selective and spend on 3rd party gamepass deals strategically like they just did this month. Its probably more cost effective to make 3rd party multiplat gamepass deals for new IP’s rather than established ones ala Outriders.

It’s possible if MLB blows up because of it being multiplatform marvel gonna want same thing

This thread is fun, MS ain’t fuckin around.

My big question is what does this mean for The Show on Xbox moving forward? Do we expect the franchise to STAY on Gamepass in the future? (The Show 22, 23 etc) And if so doesn’t that basically force Sony to put the game on PS Now??

Considering you can’t get Spider-Man movies on Disney Plus, I don’t see that happening for a very long time. There has so be some sort of iron clad agreement between them for the games as well unfortunately.

I think that is because Sony owns Spider-man IP license.

They don’t care that much about Horizon considering its on PC. TLOU is a bigger franchise for them.

Spiderman is a strange one because Microsoft can easily make their own Spiderman game if they made a deal with Marvel. Sony couldn’t do shit if Marvel allow MS to make a Web of Shadows 2 or something like that.

Nope they don’t. Only for Movies. Theyre just on good terms with Marvel due to the games theyve made and noone really wants to make Spiderman games. If MS wanted to make their own Spiderman game theres absolutely no way Marvel or Disney who own Spiderman would say no.

Spiderman as a character has appeared on MUA and MvC games on other platforms.

Sony don’t have the rights to Spiderman for games. They just try and negotiate deals with developers to keep him as sony exclusive. Most of the time succeed. I’m pretty sure Sony tried to get Spiderman as an exclusive on MvC Infinite and Capcom laughed at them.

It depends who’s up Sony’s rear end i Guess.

Spiderman going multi would be a sight to behold. Same deal as the MLB, Sony have no say should Marvel enforce it

The Game that Insomniac made? No that has 0 chance of going anywhere unless Sony want it to.

Future Spiderman games that have nothing to do with the one Insomniac are making sure.

Yeah, Insomniac Spider man isnt going anywhere. If anything, they’d allow another developer to also use the license.

It was pretty common in the SNES/Genesis days for the same license to go to multiple developers. Probably doesn’t make as much sense due to cost nowadays though.

It’s possible

Just think about this
Sony is developing a game that may push a few folks to sign up for GP lol

If psnow somehow boosts its userbase by a factor of 7 sure

Right now psnow isn’t worth Sony gambling major first day game releases. There’s a reason Sony doesn’t put new games on there. The number of subs is pathetic compared to gamepass.

Ps plus? Sure but thsts an even bigger risk because you’re literally giving it away and eating up potential revenue. Revenue you get directly from sales because you made it.

Sony make money from sales on xbox. People seem to forget that. Not as much but still a huge amount.

Sony or the MLB? The MLB publishes the game on xbox.

if the insomanic games were to go multiplatform it would be the same situation as the MLB games marvel would be a publishing front for the non playstation versions while sony publishes the playstation version sony doesnt own spider-man just movie rights i wouldnt be surprised if such scenario like this happens

Sony still make money from sales on xbox because they own the dev team. Even a portion of the gsmepass deal Sony will get.

Do they though? I mean usually developers are paid for their product but don’t get money from the sales - those go to the publisher. Unless the devs publish directly. Depends on contract though, if contract states that Sony should receive something then they will be receive something. Sony owns The Show IP right?

Maybe or may not be.

Depends on contract to contract.

I would guess that Sony paid a reduced cost to MLB for the license in exchange for providing an Xbox version for them to publish. It would all have been part of the negotiation.

What MLB do with that version afterwards is none of Sony’s business I guess. They’ve already been ‘paid’ for it.
