MLB The Show 21 launching into Game Pass Day ONE

the devs don’t make money from the game that’s published by the mlb.

lol people are bending over backwards to make this a win for sony, somehow.

Yup. I’d imagine Sony got some upfront $$$ to compensate for MLB getting publishing rights for Xbox version though.

ahh yeah that deal would come to end at some point i expect Disney will demand more if Sony wanted to renew, the problem who is going to make multiplatform game ?

Insomniac still? Sony did this to themselves by dealing with a licensed ip

The movie deal being “forever” makes it a wild card, but I can see it happening

That’s definitely not the case when Square couldn’t even put Spiderman in the avengers game unless it was exclusive to Playstation.

Sony is leveraging their movie deal to get a hold of the ip in the games regardless of whatever BS story they give to say otherwise.

Nintendo Switch did a Marvel exclusive game featuring Spider-Man on the front cover. There have been numerous Lego games on Xbox with Spider-Man. It’s Marvel’s IP Sony has zero ownership of Spider-man IP except for the films. That said who knows the length of the Spider-Man Insomniac contract. Maybe the contract is up soon and Sony has to go multiplat just like MLB the Show.

Console war BS aside.

If its about Money…yeah of course Sony are making money. They made the damn game.

And Even if MLB are publishing it on Xbox…all version have Microtransactions theres contracts in place and revenue bonuses for everyone involved including the Development team

MLB just own the baseball license. Sony pretty much make the entire game.

If you think Sony make no money from xbox sales you’re delusional.

Like i said…from a console war standpoint. Its bad look for Sony. Noone is saying theyre’ winning

But in the long run…if more people get to paly it…spend money on the MTX Diamond thing and it sells more copies and makes more money…Sony do benefit because they’re making the game and will have more money from it. MLB also will make more money.

This is Square Enix were talking about. They weren’t planning on putting Spiderman in Avengers period until Sony paid them too.

Square Enix and Sony are very very close. Sony know exactly what theyre doing.

Avengers didn’t even have Spiderman until the last Avenger movie. When this game started development even if you take spiderman away…spiderman was never an original Avengers character.

In the movies, because of Sony locking the character away from the MCU due the eternal movie deal. Spiderman is a very prominent member of the Avengers in the comics.

Square themselves said that they had no option. It was either Spiderman as Ps exclusive due Sony having the movie deal or no Spiderman at all.

More likely those deals were made before Sony got the game benefits. All those games were announced even before or around the same time Sony and Marvel made the deal to bring Spiderman to MCU.

Spider-Man was released for the [PlayStation 4] on September 7, 2018

Ultimate Alliance 3 game was released on July 19, 2019

Sony is just tricky with their marketing. They want you to believe they own Spider-Man IP. They don’t.

There is no sense in keeping SM exclusive. Like the MLB the brand transcends gaming and would make truck loads more money if it’s everywhere. You’re talking in excess of 20m+ if Sony make the series multi

No. It is the same situation as with any development when companies hire people in less developed countries - people write software, but they are only paid for their code. Everything else goes to the publisher, who might or might not give some bonuses to the developers.

So that is correct.

Incredible  Guess it is up to Sony now to put the game on PS+ or PS Now.

Again, common sense would dictate that MLB forced Sony’s hand. There is not a universe where Sony takes a bag of money from Microsoft to put a game they made on Xbox.

More importantly, the fact that people were saying “this is a win for Sony because Microsoft had to pay them” are insane as that would mean Sony is screwing their customers over for that bag of money.

MLB forced Sony to make a game that’s better for consumers on their competitor’s platform; as crazy at it sounds, that’s the only plausible scenario.

Not that any clarification was needed but yeah. Sony had no say nor did they gained anything from this deal.

I wouldn’t say PS owners are screwed. They got the game at the system and delivered method they were always going to get.

I do think gamepass is a much better business for both Ms and consumers, but that’s not screwing anyone. It’s just a better scheme not available anywhere else.
