I really think people are underestimating Guitar Hero. If they bring it back and do it right, this can be a massive hit for them in the family friendly space.
Be sure to ignore the team with Shinji Mikami that xbox currently owns ok?
True! I use to love Guitar Hero, we all use take turns on that.
I still have 3-4 guitars in my lounge for old platforms.
It’d be neat if they gave it the Master Chief Collection treatment - just launch one big remake containing the playlists of previous games and see how it sells before making any decisions to the future of the franchise. Shame Harmonix is out of the question and any internal teams have been folded into other stuff though, that doesn’t really make it easier.
I didn’t even realise that Epic purchased them 3 months ago, that acquisition was quiet!
Epic could do a lot if they tried with Fortnite and music games. I mean they do Fortnite concerts already no?
That did seem to be the implication from the acquisition, they talked a lot about the concerts in Fortnite and what Harmonix can bring to it etc.
Probably but I have a love hate relationship with Epic and refuse to play Fortnite.
They created the best FPS franchise (IMO) of all time in Unreal Tournament then let it die.
They then created Fortnite now known as Fortnite: Save the World and let that die too in favour of the crappy BR mode (which everyone now knows as Fortnite instead).
Yea, a Guitar Hero could be really big and definitely something that would attract casuals
It’s big issue from before was like all ABK games, it was ran into the ground, one GH game that consistently gets new content is a far better approach, especially in todays era
I wonder if they did it would they try and find a way to make old guitar’s compatible instead of forcing everyone to buy them again but maybe that’s more trouble than it’s worth
Oh I meant that the ceiling is probably just 3-4 million if they get a bunch of exclusives, that means going even harder than they did during the 360 generation, as of right now I can see it beat the original Xbox and sell 500K-1M but that’s it, it makes more sense to go harder in Europe.
MS has some more leverage in Japan now with the acquisitions. While they seem to be committed to releasing some games on Playstation, they never said they would do it internationally. While most of the discussion has been about forcing Sony to play nice in the USA regarding exclusive deals with Japanese games, I think this applies to Japan also. Sony throws its weight around in Japan regarding Xbox (Japan) releases, well now MS can use their games as leverage against that. Sony who is already getting killed by Nintendo in Japan somewhat relies on being the gateway to “Western Games” to prop them up there. MS can use that is leverage if not just attempt to take it outright.
They have more leverage based on hardware sales in the west. 3rd parties cant ignore.
I’m specifically talking about consumers in Japan, not Japanese third parties releasing games onto consoles. In Japan, Nintendo is king and part of Playstation’s limited in comparison appeal there is for access to western games. This is where MS has leverage. They can capture that specific market (in Japan) from Sony, or at least threaten it enough to stop Sony from hindering releases releases on Xbox there. Basically the FPS and WRPG fanbase is on PS in Japan and MS can flat out go head to head with Sony there or just use the games to keep Sony from making Japanese only exclusive deals and by extension Japanese games exclusive in western markets. Sony will have to risk getting crushed further by Nintendo in Japan or play nice with MS.
Also remember MS and Nintendo are on pretty good terms. What would happen if A/B stuff were to appear on Xbox and Switch in Japan but not PS? Sony has to tread very carefully IMO.
I dont beleive this nintendo MS good term nonsense.
Nintendo are one of the most stubborn and arrogant companies out there. They arent out there to help anyone but themselves.
I don’t mean it like they are in a partnership or anything, but on good terms as far as making business deals. They are not currently in an adversarial relationship. FYI MS and Nintendo HQ USA are literally neighbors, pretty easy to discuss things when you can just meet for lunch any day.
If they buy a Japanese company that’s mainly pushing their content to a Japanese audience like Atlus I think it be a good idea to keep them multiplatform. To keep regulators of their back and the talent happy their games will be on devices from their home country that they use.
What I think they should do is build some jrpg and japan type games …here. You have all these studios. Whats stopping you from making a jrg? Look at metal gear. That seems like a very western game made by a japanese studio so why can’t a western company make a japanese game? Once they make those games and people gravitate to them they will get more japanese developers to come on board. Make xbox and gamepass so big they can’t ignore it. This is why they need to keep buying studios
Blizzard will help their push in Korea. They should leverage that and nurture talent there as they will have a significant presence going forward.
As for Japan, I mean… Kamiya did plead and all. Idk.
Forget Kamiya. Kamiya wants nothing but money from Microsoft as he sees that Microsoft throw money bags around. The fact that they brought up Scalebound to public discourse in a form similar to something like #FreeFortnite by Epic, is already making them lose some points. Also he asked Phil in English right? Did he ban himself later?
For Blizzard it will take time before we will feel the effect of ATVI acquisition in Korea. Years. Their computer clubs use Battle Net, but Game Pass App is certainly won’t be a replacement there due to how bad it works so they will probably integrate Game Pass into Battle Net.
I think now Phil should have more leverage among Japanese developers simply because the fact that they can throw 70b in cash will certainly affect some perception there. All japanese publishers in their market cap are smaller than that.
If MS bought atlus/sega. I would be 100 percent fine them making persona for ps and switch. I wouldnt care. As long as those games come to xbox
