The only thing I took away is if you’re not on switch don’t bother. Nintendo really is king there
They SEGAed sony hard on japan dam…
It’s not really, they just seem to have so many main games, side game and remakes coming out that it ends up coming close - but it doesn’t seem like it’s targeted to be a yearly thing.
I do think Xbox should hook up with Platinum again, despite my distaste for Hideki Kamiya, but not on Scalebound. Have that IP be the carrot at the end of the stick. Work on a different, smaller project and build up the relationship first. Xbox needs more partners in Japan and there are limited options.
The Switch is a more appealing product for Japan, but Sony pretty much committed suicide in the region by “death from a thousand cuts” (killing their Japanese first party studios, hardly sending any PS5 stock to there, changing the Japanese X/O deny/confirm to the Western style for absolutely no reason, censoring anime games that Switch wasn’t, putting 0 focus on Japanese games in their showcases except for Final Fantasy… I could go on and on.)
Yeah that’s why I keep the opinion that a Japanese publisher under MS should still be allowed Switch releases. IMO if they bought Capcom and made Monster Hunter exclusive to Xbox then Japan would just stop playing Monster Hunter. I even think Nintendo would try to poach the MH team or even just key members of it if they realized they weren’t gonna have MH anymore. Nintendo doing some poaching isn’t unheard of and MH is an extremely important franchise for them.
Buy From Software, win the war!
Yes that’s why no Japanese publisher ever releases their games there. /s. Stop spreading FUD.
Get the fuck out
People want to be paid. They make games fot a living. If ms give jpn devs more money and more freedom. Theyre not doing to give two shits if theyre owned by microsoft.
You say no jpn dev wants to touch…but when you consider xbox sells garbagr in japan…it has way more support than it should have.
You can’t be for real right now.
I think hes a sony fanboy. Judging from his other posts.
I think the Series consoles did what the Xbox one sold in Japan is less than a year, current sales numbers are at around 150K, it can reach 1 million lifetime sales at it’s current pace if it keeps it going but I wonder if Microsoft was able to sign some big AAA exclusives from Japanese studios if it could potentially break records for Xbox over there by selling maybe 3-4 million consoles, maybe it would get them a few hundred thousand GamePass subscribers?
Anyway I would like to see them push a bit harder at least but what I mean by that is paying many Japanese studios and publishers some big money to make some AAA exclusives, if they did that now it probably wouldn’t matter this generation anyway as those games would take very long to make, I’m not even into most Japanese games but know many Xbox fans are, IMO the smarter thing to do would be to focus harder on most European countries besides the UK, at least Germany and France, my memory is fuzzy on this but I thought the 360 did well in those countries.
If it hits a million that’s impressive. That’s what the 360 did there and that was with many JRPG exclusives and a ton (I mean a TON) of “otaku” type game exclusives (Idolm@ster, Visual Novels, shmups, etc)
Yeah the 360 did 1.6 million lifetime over there, but Microsoft never really had something on Final Fantasy’s level I believe, I mean exclusive, anyway it’s possible that Xbox’s ceiling over there is 1.5-2 million sales even with big exclusives, it’s not awful but they very likely can do much better in Europe.
The main titles aren’t but they are constantly pumping out remasters and spin offs etc.
It’s one of the reasons RE is in the top sellers almost every year.

It is better to deal or acquire a Mistwalker studio in which JPRG giants such as Sakaguchi and Nobu Imatsu, and give them full powers to employ and improve the strategies of the brand in Japan, and not forgetting Shinji Mikami is also considered one of the giants of the industry, but this scenario is in the absence of agreements between the Mistwalker studio and Apple
It depends on how you want to look at it, the Xbox strategy is clearly to get GP everywhere, potentially on the Switch too.
Overwatch and Minecraft are already some of the biggest games over there. If Blizzard could make a MMO on the same scale of LoL it would be massive.
Monster Hunter is huge, a Capcom purchase could expand upon this.
Xbox could go after the Digimon rights to compete with Pokémon.
With all the Banjo, Crash and Spyro characters they could create their own party games, racers and family platformers, they could also expand on this with a SEGA acquisition.
All of these would do well in the western market too.
I think it would be naive to simply give up.
I seriously doubt it gets to 1 million. Theyd need tons of exclusive jrpg support. 360 sold over a million because it had tons of exclhsive jrpgs that spld 100-200k on the console. Lost odyssey blue dragon tales of vesperia last remnant stsr ocean 4 eternal sonata. Half of thoae were timed exclusives and other half pure exclusives.
Xbox games these days barely sell 10k copies of games.
Hopefully gamepass takes off in japan. But until a persona 6 or hugely popular series comes to xbox day 1. I think the ceiling for series is 300 to 500k lifetime.
Mistwalker is a design studio and Sakaguchi is close to retirement. Uematsu has health problems for at least 3 years and is close to retirement as well.
Mikami last directed game was Evil Within 1 in 2014. He said multiple times that he wants to direct one last big game.
I don’t think sakaguchi is going to retire, he still plays a lot of Final Fantasy 14 , their last game was fantasian and got a lot of praise, the studio look perfect in general for Japan
