People are reaching very hard with the CMA. I’m also disappointed by some media people acting like this deal is already dead.
Theoretically, maybe it doesnt make sense for Xbox to be in the console gaming market if the regulators get hung up on that. They could exit that business altogether instead of this terrible precedent that blocking the deal would have. To be truthful, that would better align with Microsofts goals of reaching billions of gamers. Just be an app and 3rd party publisher. They could probably even buy EA if they did that.
It results in less console market competition ultimately but alleviates the concern of impacting poor little Sony
We will have this stuff every week It will move from one extreme to anoother.
Personally I think Microsoft should (and probably will) become more aggressive with their third party deals going forward too. As Sony is essentially trying to mess with Microsoft’s money, I don’t think Microsoft will keep the same relationship with Sony.
Seriously people, 120+ posts over effectively nothing, I assumed there was actual news.
Just catching up on this thread I have seen the same individuals make the same arguments/points ten times over!
Can we calm down a bit?
Lol…Sony.
Game Pass is the bread and butter of Xbox now, it will be on the service if the deal closes.
This deal is looking more and more unlikely, thanks to the CMA…
Oh well, it was a fun ride but the reality is I’ll need to buy Diablo 4 and the next CoD.
I can’t see Activision signing another exclusivity deal for any game with Playstation either after all this.
And this agency has very little oversight, what a joke.
This reminds me of the days leading up to the Zenimax roundtable where everyone was panicing about what “some will be exclusive” meant.
In the very least be patient unti november when the FTC and Europe weighs in. Does Microsoft look like a company that would deliberatly waste its own time?
Jeez a week ago everyone was high fiving Brazils decision.
Sony has Call of Duty games on its service at this very moment lol
Wouldn’t doubt if the FTC approved that the US puts some pressure on the UK. Satya Nadella has many friends that dont want to see foreign entities restrict US companies. Its pretty easy for Satya to go to Chuck Shummer and give him that additional investment in gaming offices in New York that he wants for instance.
Well, FTC head certainly wanted to bring something like “predict the future” into the regulations.
Who would have thought that the supposedly corrupt country would give out fair observations/arguments regarding the deal and the supposedly first world country is coming across as completely biased and corrupt and giving out baseless arguments, almost speaking like a mouthpiece of Homeboy Jim Ryan.
It almost looks like a lot of cash has been slipped in under the table.
The regulators are all stupid with this stuff. They are screaming because tech companies grew business to large scale and provided tons of value to consumers and the economies where they are based. The whole government against big tech thing is way overblown.
Ultimately regulators just need to protect from companies buying smaller competing companies just to shut them down or companies that are merging in critical infrastructure/resources areas where the industry is hyperconsolidated and has massive investment costs to enter market.
Jim Ryans mum works for CMA confirmed!
It seems like in the last few years certain governments really want to stick it to “big bad tech!” because they failed miserably to do their jobs in the past, now they want to make a big deal out of anything, there has to be regulations but not like this, this deal getting blocked negatively affects way more people than it benefits positively, in the end only Sony really benefits from it getting blocked.
If COD was ever going to go exclusive it wasn’t even going to happen until a next generation so COD fans who already chose a PS5 wouldn’t be forced to switch ecosystems half way through the generation.
Shouldnt even matter. Microsoft isnt buying ABK to not to take advantage of it. Imagine if Disney were forced to offer all their programming to Netflix and Amazon prime for a decade. It would fundementally cripple Disney Plus uptake making the venture pointless!
Sony has 25B in Playstation revenue and bought what…11 studios in 3 years? Why are they allowed to grow despite their size and market position and Xbox not?
Exactly but I was just saying that Microsoft isn’t as aggressive as others when it comes to this, fans of Obsidian, Bethesda, Ninja Theory, InXile and other studios they acquired had years to prepare to switch ecosystems to play their games, same thing is going to happen here and even then there’s no guarantee COD is leaving PlayStation and Microsoft shouldn’t be forced to agree to that.
