It helps to keep the Starfield IP associated solely with Xbox too.

According to this same poster (Idas) we should be earing something from EU regulators next week.

Xbox/PC. There is no indication Microsoft is putting new live service games on rival platforms (aside from possible FTC mandates like COD) games like Grounded, Bleeding Edge, Sea of Thieves, Redfall, etc are only in their ecosystem and the whole point of these acquisitions is to get people into the Xbox/PC/xCloud ecosystem to bolster Game Pass.

With Minecraft in mind, I wonder if that was 4D chess by showing that Microsoft is sticking to their guns and allowing Minecraft to be multiplatform and not favour Xbox in anyway to allow for future purchases like ABK go over easier because they can point back to what they did with Minecraft and prove they won’t say one thing and change it later after it goes through.

They will be exclusive. Theres no difference between AB games and XGS Service games like Everwild and Sea of Thieves and Forza Horizon.

I always found the idea of the FTC mandating a certain IP must be published on other plattforms weird. Like that stuff rarely ever happens. When was the last time a company was forced to put software on specific plattforms?

So I don’t think something like that will happen. I even find it ridiculous so many “experts” propose that as a possibility.

That’s because it’s 100% bs. None of these companies would ever buy something if there was some ridiculous mandate on it ei You have to make this game for Playstation too

There are people out there who think Microsoft keeps Minecraft on Playstation because they have to which is again, 100% fabricated. MS can absolutely take Minecraft off Playstation/Nintendo/Apple/Android and there wouldn’t be anything anyone could do about it. Of course it would be a terrible decision both in terms of business and PR but they are absolutely able to do so.

Instead what would happen is that the FTC would require Microsoft sell off Call of Duty just like they required Disney sell off Fox Sports when they bought Fox because Disney already owned ESPN

Although that would never happen in this case, MS would politely tell the FTC to fk right off and dare the FTC to try to fight it out in court where the FTC would get their cheeks clapped

COD will likely stay multiplatform but it’ll be because it’s MS decision to do so not because they’re being forced to. As long as COD and Minecraft are on Playstation, MS basically owns 2 of the 4 biggest games on the platform (others being Fortnite/GTA)

Which “expert” have you heard propose this exactly? I know Michael Pacter made some claim that the FTC would demand Microsoft put Elder Scrolls and Fallout on Playstation to which people laughed at Pacter for a 1/50 batting average

Same here… What I have heard that certain IP is meant to be deinvested like Disney had done when they bought Fox studios

Well, this whole thread is all about personal speculation.

Yep :stuck_out_tongue:

I do feel that, if the FTC were to oppose the deal, MS will fight though and nails to get ABK. I found the information of this article interesting: https://www.nasdaq.com/articles/what-investors-need-to-know-about-microsofts-largest-acquisition

I’ve said from the begining (well not really, but at some point I started doing it :v) that this acquisition is far beyond the “console war” or/and who sell the most boxes and blablabla (though it is a plus :P) and that article seems to agree with this idea:

But this move is much bigger than video games.

When you look under the surface, savvy investors will discover an opportunity to target significant profits from an emerging technology that’s already starting to change the world.

I know a lot of us laugh at the term “metaverse” being throw when companies talk about how important it is and stuff but despite no-one seemly knows how it will look or even what it is (everyone seems to have a different description for it). You see more and more companies wanting to chase it:

Now, “metaverse” has become a popular buzzword over the past few months, but many people aren’t clear about what the term means.

The metaverse is the next evolution of the internet. It’s a network of virtual 3D worlds that allow users to interact with people and physical/virtual objects. Fully developed, it will enable users can work and play in a digital world they create themselves.

This new internet boom is still in its early days, and it’s already expanding with breathtaking speed.

The number of people who have started using metaverse’s new immersive digital environment just exploded 10X in a matter of weeks. This radical technology is set to transform the world, from entertainment, to virtual meetings and even more advanced uses like telemedicine – and it’s already growing exponentially.

Experts believe these metaverse will become an economic engine that could surpass $30 trillion in value within the next decade.

Now why all of this is important? Because this is what Satya Nadella said about the acquisition when it happened:

“Our vision is for a river of entertainment where the content and commerce flow freely… Removing these barriers will only become more important as the digital and physical worlds come together and the metaverse platforms develop.”

I cant find the interview, but there is a part where Nadella practically said “ABK marks the begining of our tap in the mataverse” or something a long the lines and this is waht the article said about the relation between video games and the metaverse:

Industry analysts predict gaming will be at the cutting edge of the metaverse for the next several years.

That’s partially because game designers have already created entire worlds with immersive experiences that connect hundreds of millions of players around the globe – and these games already generate billions of dollars every year.

With the Activision-Blizzard acquisition, Microsoft is positioning itself as the leading pioneer building out the metaverse.

Remember what Nadella said on the investor call: they’re creating “a river of entertainment where the content and commerce flow freely… as the digital and physical worlds come together.”

If you want to know more about this I recommend you to watch the following video:

It explains how MS may build its metaverse (or at least a big pillar of it) through it’s gaming division.

Metaverse is the best bet for MS from many stand points. The biggest safe bet is the market share they will get from metaverse for its Azure cloud division. Metaverse is incomplete without cloud.

There investment won’t stop

Acquisition season

Yep, they have the tools to be a dominant player in that space and ABK will massively help them with that.

A bipartisan legislative effort to rein in the nation’s largest tech companies is facing fresh resistance from a faction of Senate Democrats who are worried that Big Tech will cut off their lobbying money before they go into an election.

Several Democratic senators have privately expressed deep reservations about voting for the legislation, particularly with a midterm election looming. Big Tech pays out a fortune to lobby US politicians and the last thing they want is to support parties who might vote in favour of a law which will prevent them from screwing over their customers.

Uh, though people were exaggerating when they said these companies fund political campaigns but it seem I was wrong.

Won’t be the only thing weighing on the democrats. With markets this year being on a downward trajectory, rejecting the deal(which previously would have sailed through) would be adding extra uncertainty. Big tech companies for the most part are cash rich and locking them out of acquisitions would cause a lot of smaller companies to potentially lose value(potential takeover candidates).

Fucking clown show. Companies dictating policy. Boring dystopia lol

As long as no one can really explain what the “metaverse” is and what advantages it brings it’s nothing more than a buzz word to me.

Right… Nothing to do with end customers yet

All about backend services for the platform
