Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread (Part 1)

Said it before, I’ll say it again. CoD going multiplat is a necessary sacrifice, but I hope MS can end the CoD mines. If CoD has to go multiplat and release every 2-3 years to let studios make other games again, by all means.

I mean, for fucks sakes. This is the dev team on MWII.

Every fucking studio… EVERY FUCKING STUDIO.

Yeah it’s low-key miserable :confounded:

If they can get T4B, Beenox and maybe High Moon off it to do their own stuff id be happy

Gimme another one of those transformers games, im not a transformers guy but the ones they made and that one ps2 game back in the day were damn good games

I loved the multiplayer in War for Cybertron

Yeah, I want to see T4B, High Moon, Beenox and Raven get to do their own stuff. Sledgehammer, Beenox and IW all have multiple studios now that can work on CoD. MS is unafraid to outsource either whereas Activision is petrified by it.

GP needs more regular content first party to sustain long-term growth.

Yeah GP is the key here and as big as CoD is they know they need not only constant content but a variety of it

Giving the studios an extra year for every CoD should help with this a huge amount, plus they said they were hiring thousands of more devs over the next few years, if they get that extra year, all those new devs and still need those other studios on CoD then something is seriously wrong

For some reason I don’t think the FTC forces Microsoft to make COD multi platform(or atleast on playstation). I do wonder if Xbox does something a little different though if they don’t keep it just for their console and PC like either a cloud only version for playstation and Nintendo or even a one year timed exclusivity. Will be interesting to see how they handle it all

Even without this talk about pressuring them not to do so, I would’ve been surprised if MS made CoD exclusive.

Yes, exclusivity has it benefits, but CoD isn’t any game, and I think they lose much more in this case.

Not just money, but the game value and market share will not be the same when half the market can’t play it. And that could be alright with most of other games, but not CoD. And not only that would be the chance for competition to fight for its place, it would be their best feature too.

MS can afford it, but I don’t think they would do that when they can leverage it without compromising the money making machine.

Just by being in Game Pass day one might bring more subscribers than any Xbox exclusive they have.

Let alone the marketing rights and perks and maybe some smaller games or spinoffs.

Are people still on the COD exclusivity train?

They can’t. It would be illegal and prejudiced since the FTC doesnt enforce those rules elsewhere.

As it should be. No reason it wont be.

I would need to see the terms in what call of duty stays multiplatform in perpetuity means. if it is mandated that means Microsoft has no bargaining power. Sony could say well in order to sell cod on Playstation you have to give us 60% of the profits otherwise it cant come to PlayStation then does Microsoft just have to say yes because it is mandated?

Do they just have to make a reasonable effort and if its a reasonable effort what constitutes reasonable? What if cod no longer is yearly and they say will just put one out every 3 to 5 years focus on warzone to fill time gaps between releases. do tehy still have to release it multiplatform? what if the sales fall and its no longer popular are they forever resigned to making this title irregardless of profitability?

It seems like it would be complicated and possibly unfair to mandate something that is creative. Yes its the most popular game but there are a lot of other really popular games.

No real use in speculating. Multiplatform could still be timed exclusive to xbox. Also the gamepass value is wild, and i doubt they’d agree to anything requiring it guess to to other services.

Probably not a hot take, but COD, Overwatch and other current multiplayer games will be multiplatform. I think its too much microtransaction money and sales to turn down. Plus, they don’t want to risk another multiplat fps to grow on playstation that can take a huge share from COD.

Yep it’s going to be a long time until we know more.

There could be a number of options they decide to take

  • Timed Exclusivity
  • Exclusive / Timed DLC/Modes
  • Exclusive Weapons / Skins / Bundles
  • Double XP
  • Battle Pass Tier Skips

Probably others I’m not thinking of.

Honestly if they keep it multiplatform (which I’m not getting into the discussion of) I think they’ll keep things relatively even between the PS5 And Xbox release - I don’t think we’ll see anything like timed DLC or stuff like that. We’ll probably get a little game pass rewards pack like Halo and other games get, and if they were only going to do a beta on one platform it’d be Xbox, but other than that they’d be the same. I think they’d want to draw people in with the promise of being able to play it (and every other CoD) on game pass rather than hobble the PS5 version.

Its disgusting. Seriously. This franchise needs to slow the fuck down.

Thank god MS are buying them.

I honestly couldn’t give 2 shits about COD being multiplat. Make it every 2 years and just throw it on Gamepass. I’ve never wanted a franchise to die as much as this. ITs gone on for way too long.

CODs will be multiplatform. Its ridiculous to think otherwise. MS are about Minecraft scenarios where they make money off every userbase

I don’t care one way or the other, but plenty of people said the same exact thing about Starfield and the rest of Bethesda’s releases…

I believe that once the contracts are all legally completed, all of AB’s games will be fully exclusive to Xbox/PC including Call of Duty.

Starfield, Doom, Fallout, Elder Scrolls are primarily Single-player campaign games. However, it’ll be interesting to know if a Starfield Online MMO will be multiplat or exclusive.

Putting an MMO on console is just a bonus. Most MMO’s live or die off the PC community so making it a PC/Xbox exclusive would make sense
