Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread (Part 1)

tae kim has a pretty established position on anything MS (pretty negative generally) that helps put his takes in context.

Better to stick with Jeff’s interpretation direct.

LOL at buying Bioware, its like Blizzard, its so fucked up that you need to reset the whole the studio.

lol you’re being too nice, the guy is a tool and just loves to console war like most people on twitter. He posted a tweet after a Horizon Forbidden West trailer last year saying good luck Halo. He pushes the UK physical charts too.

I don’t mind people having biases (we all do) but he definitely steps over the line into fanboy territory. That Aloy article he wrote recently read like a Sony PR piece.

I would actually be completely fine if Microsoft stopped with the acquisitions after the Activision one they’re big enough for me already, BUT I would also be fine with more just to see these people crying.

Has there already been a discussion about OW2, D4 and Spyro and the platforms it’s launching on?

I know that Xbox released on the platforms already announced in the past, but if they do that here it’s going to take a looooong time to make an impact outside of GamePass content.

I would rip off the bandaid next year and re-announce them with new trailers.

I guess they’ll delay all the announcements they can until it’s done, like with Bethesda, which went silent outside Sony deals. Nobody would question another COD only year for AB. XD

They don’t need anymore sales and revenue to balloon the selling price, it’s already sold.

But the platforms and games already have been announced. And you shouldn’t forget that Activison has to continue working like the acquisition isn’t going to happen, to a certain degree at least.

Blizzard games are coming around very often at the moment and Microsoft needs to decide, if the exclusivity is worth a short term damage in the image.

That doesn’t seem to mean much, there have been plenty of games announced for Xbox that drop it before release. We recently had one do so where they sited technical difficulties as the reason for canceling the Xbox version, but the ps4 and switch versions are launching with no problem.

It does for Microsoft though. They haven’t cancelled a single game already announced for a different platform.

Overwatch 2 is meant to replace the original game so it wouldn’t make sense to take it off other platforms. It’s like a new version of an already existing service game. Diablo 4 was also already announced for PS4 so I doubt it will change platforms.

Doesn’t mean that they won’t do so, if the game was announced as an intent but no contract for the game was made, they could site the fact and proceed to make exclusive. I know Psychonauts 2 is one example of a game that came to all platforms, but there was already kickstarter promises to keep, which is better than what some kickstarter have done in past.

Of course that implies that these games haven’t been released already.

It’s not exactly the same situation as with the prior cases(Psychonauts 2, Wasteland 3). They are way bigger and I think it’s up for debate.

Obviously, it would make sense to make a sequel to a franchise exclusive.

I think it all comes down to how the timing of the acquisition’s closing and the development of the games lines up. If we go the entirety of this year without hearing new info about Diablo 4, we might have another Starfield/Redfall situation on our hands. The game is slated to come out in 2023 so it wouldn’t be crazy for the last-gen versions to be dropped entirely.

I guess everyone is fine with “299” and “how to share game” but a profile picture, world war 5.

Saw one comment that literally said “The government should step in if it looks like Microsoft is in danger of passing Sony in revenue”

Like oops dude, you forgot to dress that up in fake “neutral” language and you accidentally said exactly what you think lol. Sony should stay #1 forever and any other situation should be illegal.
