Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread |OT3| - Sony bends the knee!

For the record, Xbox did once hold both CoD and BF in their show(s). It wouldn’t surprise me if it resumes even with acquisition. Clearly, EA is benefiting a lot from Game Pass. Become enemy like how Square more or less did will be a mistake. Not going exclusive, but pulling off marketing and such.

Should be interesting to see what is what when it comes to certain CoD at first not coming to GP. Wasn’t Sony’s deal for cosmetics only anyway, or also (temporary) GP blocking deals?

Something like that.

Round table is really necessary for everyone. Hopefully, that’s on their floor plan.

Ah well it’s no biggie anyway.

Personally I’ll be busy as hell with RDR2 until September and then it’s Starfield time. Won’t even take the time to start with any CoD campaign for a while, haha.

As for CoD, after MW1, BO and MW2, what is considered the best campaign? I quit buying after the first BO. Never played any CoD until Advanced Warfare and the last one I bought was last year.

BO2 is pretty good, especially when you can get multiple endings. MW3 is neat to me. WaW is great for its atmosphere and tone.

I hope they fix the online part of Black ops 2. Hackers ruined it

Just listened to some of Tom Warren’s Twitter space. He’s not expecting a closure next week as he thinks the CMA timetable is what we are following. He thinks it will close before August 29th as CMA will get final report done ahead of that but doesn’t see it likely that MS will close over the CMA .

I guess the CMA could lift the temporary order but I’m and I guess Tom is to struggling to see how they’d do that without the impression that the ongoing ‘investigation’ wasn’t compromised.

So sounds like a few weeks and then it’s done. My guess is first week in August.

Realistically, the CMA would have to accept that the acquisition is a done deal and they’re investigating if the merged entity can operate in UK on the proposed terms. All they have to do is to give their written consent on Monday without amending the order itself.

Monday will be the day for any reason, whether the decision to wait up for guaranteed win or the win with one nation more or less on pause.

I wonder if MS/ABK will amend the deal to cut out CMA, then close and sort out the CMA after that way they can close before any shit happens anywhere else lol

At this moment it doesn’t matter what is in the deal unless the CMA announce their order is removed then a closure would be in breach of UK law. There isn’t really a need to do that. The CMA either intervene and remove the order or there is an extension of a few weeks.

Enjoy your weekend. We feast!

I think he means pivot to battlefield series for marketing. However, Battlefield on consoles has always been hit or miss and the series has more roots in the PC market. I am unsure, if this is a wise pivot, but it won’t hurt to test out. I think what hurts battlefield it’s harder to casually get into compared to other shooters since maps are large and that could be intimidating for many

The other aspect that demonstrates that this is fanboy garbage is the fact that he now sees an importance for “competition” simply because it is no longer a PlayStation-affiliated IP. Competition in the military FPS genre apparently didn’t matter last year, or the year before, or the year before that.

But now that Sony is losing an exclusive marketing deal for one of the biggest FPS IPs out there? Then it’s time for competition in this space.

I mean it’s not like this time last year he was saying the same about Battlefield and Xbox. It never crossed his mind.

But now…now we need “good news for competition in the shooter space”. Didn’t need competition last year when the market leader had full marketing rights for the biggest FPS out there.

We didn’t see similar thoughts when the market leader had three or four 3rd party fighting games as exclusives on its platform. We didn’t see similar thoughts when this market leader had a bunch of exclusive 3rd party JRPGs. No desire for competition in the Fighter/JRPG space. No calls for Microsoft to fund an exclusive Persona game in response to FF16. No calls for Xbox to fund an exclusive Mortal Kombat when SF5 was released.

And the funny thing is that it’s not like COD is leaving the PlayStation. But rather Sony needs to engage in drastic action to change the FPS landscape because it lost COD’s marketing rights.

In a funny way, think as early access (close during discussion with CMA) or full release (all in agreement).

Seems like the smarter play.

Now the competition begging for Xbox will begin. When Starfield releases “Sony must buy CDPR or Larian to compete in WRPG space”

If it is really like those legal experts have suggested that CMA cannot prevent the deal from closing, I don’t believe MS will wait for CMA instead of closing the deal next Monday. Makes no sense to me.
