Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread |OT3| - Sony bends the knee!

Not really how it works. Australia still hasn’t approved. Canada hasn’t approved. Activision will be de-listed Monday. CMA hasn’t even filed its final decision yet.

It’s over.

If MS ignores the CMA and closes the deal, they would likely receive a hefty fine. Some have speculated that it may be worth it over extending the deal.

However, the CMA could also allow MS to close the deal, allow both the CMA and MS to continue work on the rumored cloud divestiture in the UK.

Extension isn’t happening. Microsoft and Activision would have had to get approvals from their respective boards and have a shareholder vote. The fines from the UK will be less than the 3 billion breakup fee with Activision. The CMA is back at the table to “save face” It’s too late in the game to make any drastic moves. Activision Stock will be removed Monday from the Nasdeq. Shareholders will be bought out, and that’s all folks.

The massive sigh of relief for Phil and the whole Xbox team and Microsoft once the deal closes will be immense.

Happy temporary restraining order expiry day :tada:

Phil definitely had a look of a man who wanted this over with during that Kinda Funny interview.

I think Microsoft expected push back - hence the deadline - but I don’t think they expected regulators like the FTC to be so unreasonable.

I really do not understand opinions like this one. Playstation just went through absolutely massive pains because a competitor bought up an IP they depend on heavily and fund.

Why in the world would they repeat the same strategy and risk the same result? They are also investing very heavy into their own GAAS, so why would they turn around and create a giant they don’t control.

Every time he just forgets that EA and Microsoft have huge marketing contracts and are great partners. EA PLAY and Xbox Game Pass.

Of course people already out here trying to damage control or come up with scenarios where Sony is ok lol, what’s to stop Microsoft who is already close with EA/Battlefield to market even more and strategically release their games to avoid each other.

Wonder how long it takes to work out the deal with the CMA? I doubt it takes long with basically all the important markets now sorted and the six weeks extension from the CMA.

I don’t know if they close on Monday, they may get the extension if ABK agrees simply to look good to regulators for their future acquisitions

I’m a big battlefield fan but that game is in serious trouble. It has completely lost its way since 4 and the team that made the early games so magical have basically all left. Those left don’t understand what makes battlefield great.

The idea that Sony can just decide to promote this series and it will be great again is laughable.
