I don’t think I’ve seen a breakdown of the revenue for COD based on yearly releases versus mobile and free to play. Would be interesting to determine to what percent does the yearly releases impact revenue.
But hasn’t Phil basically said this? Maybe I misremember, but I think he did.
CoD will probably stay a yearly franchise, but surely not all those studios have to be on it?
If they want it to stay yearly then yes, everyone will need to stay on it.
The reality of it all is that if Microsoft isn’t willing to compromise and put out a CoD every 2 years, or hire to inflate the CoD studio numbers to a point that the other studios could stop working on it, or hire contractors in a much larger capacity.
Maybe even buying the contracting companies they work with to fill in the gaps, the current CoD mines will continue as is.
Yeah, I think cod remains status quo except they might release an entry every 2 years instead of yearly.
I hope they can free some of the studios to do their own thing, but I feel they’ll keep the same studios on cod because that franchise is just too valuable
Well,…fuck.
People are being to optimistic with CoD yearly release change post acquisition
It’s yearly release won’t change.
Here is a listing of all the documents filed so far. It looks like several were filed on July 3rd but not one we care about.
Federal Trade Commission v. Microsoft Corporation, 3:23-cv-02880 – CourtListener.com
Not short term. It will long term because the resourxes and man power to keep doing it will increase. And if warzone 2 takes off that could ease pressure for mainline releases
Hopefully not the same as what happened 30 minutes before the CMA dropped their decision… I wonder if anyone did get done for insider trading?!
I believe the drop happened shortly before the decision. Here, it’s “normal” in stock market case. Don’t read too much on it. It didn’t drop like 4 points or something.
Ngl, I was pretty optimistic about this deal until today. I don’t know why, but I got a bad feeling about this situation. It just reminds of the CMA decision where everyone was confident and optimistic before the CMA blocked.
Best to feel 50/50.
CoD is different now. They can always continue to release Warzone content 24/7/365 around the clock. Then they can space out the content more.
Hell they could double down on Warzone even more than activision is already. Then they can space out the other releases as they see fit.
Just a normal stock market. Let’s not over exaggerate. CMA was very noticeable when it lost 4 points.
I think more people were more confident in the CMA decision than they are with this, largely because of that decision
After the CMA dropped the console stuff people assumed it was a done deal but it’s pretty clear they never had any intention of passing the deal
Now after seeing this case, the terrible FTC arguments and the Judge’s comments people would naturally assume the PI should have a high chance of being denied but after that CMA decision, people are hesitant to say it’s done deal
The key difference with the CMA decision and this MS/ABK vs FTC trial is we were never privy to what was happening behind the scenes at the CMA and had to rely on third party reports/speculation. In the case of the MS/ABK vs FTC trial, many of us have listened to the 5 day trial and have heard with our own ears what was said and what was not.
It reminds me of the Depp vs Heard trial. If you didn’t follow the trial closely and relied on the media, you would have thought that Heard had it in the bag. However, anyone who followed the trial live was not shocked that Depp won.
Again two different situations
Individually, how many employees does Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer, Raven Software and Treyarch have? Thanks
