Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread |OT3| - Sony bends the knee!

Every time I read a new article or there is relevant information about how the CMA does not (or does not want to) do its job well with this merger it makes me wonder why Microsoft would not close the merger. And my only theory is that they would don’t want to lose the good image they’ve had in recent years. Because in everything else, well, they have 90% in their favor.

Yikes. Talk about closed for business. If this is all correct and that bill passes as is, the UK is in for a world of hurt. There is absolutely no way tech giants are going to sit there and let the CMA micromanage their businesses.

Oof, if that bill passes I can definitely see Microsoft leave the UK completely. Because that’s the sort of thing that no business will be able to survive.

If that bill passes not just Microsoft but the entire GAMMA will exit.

Of course I don’t really expect the Microsoft acquisition of Activision Blizzard to come up between the UK Prime Minister and Biden explicitly, but the UK wanting to deepen economic ties and trading with the United States is a perfect political opening for Microsoft to continue putting huge pressure on the CMA’s stupidity that I think will ultimately cause someone in the UK government to do something or just be okay with Microsoft closing around things if they are forced to at some point.

Another topic in this meeting is AI, and Microsoft is going to be a key company to help shape the right direction on this with governments given their work to date. The UK making them angry over a very misguided regulator attempt to block a video game publisher acquisition is not very sensible when heading down much more important roads such as this one together.

My bad posted up an article that was paywalled, sorry. We allowed to post paywall bypassers linked articles like 12ft.io and archive.is?

CMA better hope June 11 showcase flops hard or else it will be like a NBA game where the momentum is eating the opposing side alive.

It’s not surprising but disappointing, considering they had a scrolling ticker at the bottom, pretty much saying a more condensed version of the letter.

But the free trade deal promised in the 2019 Conservative manifesto looks to have been put on ice until at least 2025.
