It is funny that weâve so many pundits and online denizens cry about monopolies and acquisitions any time Microsoft is involved (plenty of âMS acquiring and consolidating the industry is badâ articles out there), but itâs deafening silence when Sony not only acquires, but further leans into a genuine monopoly for the anime market. Odd to say the least, and I wonder where Bernie and Warren stand on that fact⌠or is anime too obscure to understand?
In fairness, I do like Warren and Bernie on most issues - just calling out the hypocrisy, especially towards ABK where every major union have supported the deal, yet they stand in opposition⌠which is a direct contradiction to their pro-worker/union stances.
Unlike the UK, I could see them pulling out of China if needed.
People say that Microsoft mishandles companies that they have bought, but people never complain about Sonyâs mishandling of acquisitions. I personally despise how they treated âThe Boondocksâ and Michael Jackson. Even at PlayStation, they ended up shutting and restructuring their British studios.
I dont believe ABK will be mismanaged by Microsoft. Although Microsoft should have a duty to fix problems at their studios, the management should have most of the blame for delays or cancellations, since they have the freedom to run their studios.
They could. I think given their cloud strategy it would be something theyâd prefer not to do though. But be interesting to see how much leverage they have there.
Iâd say though that if they can get the deal approved with remedies past the CMA I donât really see it being an issue in China.
well sony fucked around and we are going into the find out stage
âSuch policies also can distort trade in the United States and third countries by providing monopoly rents at home that can be leveraged for competition abroad.â
This part is key if it means what I think it means, that they are using the favourible position afforded them in Japan even outside Japan.
Itâs very clear this is all happening itâs just whether anything will be done about it. They arenât messing around either they mention it will for part of discussions for a trade deal.
i dont think much will come out of it but i hope Sony has to pay their lawyers lots of money to fight this off.
this is so much fun.
Not directly related, but:
All this doom and gloom about how ABK, no, a singular game (CoD) could cripple PlayStation if it becomes exclusive⌠meanwhile EA is comfortably chilling with a much higher global MAU %.Xbox laying groundwork for Japanese acquisitions. Imagine Sony objecting to any sale with this looming over them.
Yeh I think this is whatâs happening, they are setting the narrative so if Sony complains it would look stupid.
I doubt anything will come from this and I think itâs all a bit silly but Sony brought this on themselves
Edit: Apparantly this is old
It does feel like political posturing for trade negotiations, but regardless the idea has been put forth and I highly doubt Sony wanted that.
Yeah, Iâve never seen it before. Im sure it was a different one I saw a couple of weeks ago.
I dont even know whta Google is doing here, they leave the cloud space some time ago so I think they are irrelevant.
That would leave Netease being (apparently) the only chinese company against the deal but since MS has Tencent on his side what will happen is that the SAMR will take more time to approve it.
Still curious what the CMA thinks of MSâs proposed remedies. Hope someone leaks Sonyâs response.
Just like how Sony leaned into COD, Google is leaning into cloud with the real reason being something else. For Google the real reason is to protect their mobile store most likely.
Google shouldnât have a say in China as they donât participate in that market.
Man, I couldnât even come up with this crap myself if I wanted to. I know itâs the readerâs opinion (and itâs all kinds of wrong), but how can they even publish this lol
These mofos are just losing ther minds in real time amd its great
