Yeah, the term “surprise” in stock analysis is used a little differently. Whenever a big company that is known to be doing very well reports earnings the figures are going to be good on the surface of it. The stock trades higher or lower depending on exactly how good they are vs analyst expectations. So if Michael Jordan plays tomorrow you expect him to be amazing even if he doesn’t have a great game by his own standards, but the MJ stocks will be pricing in a certain number of points for eg and if he only does very well rather than great against that metric they will sell off. If he does better by a certain amount that is considered a surprise and an opportunity, even though everyone and their dog expected MJ to be amazing as standard.
That will go to federal court, it was just at the ALJ
The EU also order to divest GRAIL last year so no surprise the FTC feels encouraged to do the same when a mayor regulator is against the deal
Not sure how this is relevant to this discussion, see:
This.
Ah gotcha, they should just fold then
Having law and facts on their side doesn’t mean much
The FTC isn’t fighting MS because it’s illegal, they are fighting because big tech bad, they know they have a losing case
Doesn’t matter how much time and money they waste, they will do it so the sooner they get dismantled or a massive change in leadership the better
U.S. files antitrust lawsuit against Activision Blizzard | Reuters
Just saw this, not sure what it means. ATVI stock fell briefly but now back to where it was.
Likely unrelated to the acquisition and more about union-busting behavior or interference from Activision.
Makes sense, thanks.
Edit: just seen update and it was to do with esports antitrust with Overwatch and CoD. (I was searching for Microsoft rather than Activision news so saw it through the wrong lens)
Sure, sorry, I didn’t know that at the time I posted. Was just putting the headline up as people were talking FTC but now looks like it wasn’t relevant, thanks.
It is funny to say Diablo IV is a surprise hit, though I suppose it’s what happens when they don’t know gaming like that.
Oh. Hrm. Had seen some articles last week about the union-related behavior so thought that had a good chance of being related.
I hadnt heard a peep about this eSports thing, so curious from a surface level what its about, like why did it gather the attention of the DoJ.
Looks like it’s settled now . Was to do with allegations that Activision suppressed the wages of its esports players and limited competition between the teams. Just got nervous when filtering for Microsoft news and seeing a headline with antitrust and DoJ!
That was fast
Oh wow so it was filed and settle this day? Thought those things take time
As for the stock market…I wouldnt really pay much attention to it honestly. At this point shareholders will react (even overreact) to anything that happens until the deal is closed and as the CMA case demonstrated, they know as much as you and me.
Well it was the better part of a few hours…
Could well be the Activision settlement was agreed before it even got filed. Neither side likely wanted to go to court in the end.
Kind of funny and rich that Sony is crying about the acquisition, only to be reminded with this.
Someone must put a stop to their Western Anime Distribution monopoly
Surprise hit? Diablo4 a surprise hit? Who writes these garbage shit.
