The thing is having these games exclusive to xbox will effect the install bases, so while they would not get profits from selling on sony consoles they would get more profits from the higher installbase of Xbox.

Also, Exclusives still matter for xbox because of they didnt why would they be getting the medium, call of the sea and other exclusives?

I don’t think Sony could reasonably afford Bethesda. This type of purchase isn’t necessarily replicable. Capcom or Konami? Yea, maybe those. Maybe SquareSoft for a similar price if Sony really decides to go all in.

I think MS had two things happen that pushed this.

  1. They saw Sony get not one but two games as timed exclusives. Bethesda and MS have always been close, this had to have been a slap in the face.

  2. Trump died. Having him on the board probably scared them away.

So. 1) Microsoft saw gaming bringing in real revenue and in a pandemic world, people will be playing more and more. 2) They saw the competition getting aggressive. 3) An opening appeared.

There is hope guys, there is hope!

What the actual fuck, I’m still processing this. Even if future games are multiplatform, this is a huge get for Microsoft. And announcing it a day before preorders open lmao

I think all of these studios except whatever Bethesda Game Studios and Doom games come out will be exclusives.

BGS games too big and established to miss out on revenue from the Playstation camp so might be a Mojang situation here. Also makes it more enticing to get to xbox so either you drop $70 to buy it on ps5/ps4 or you pay $10 for gamepass.

Anyone else feels like working out the kinks in this agreement is what delayed a pre-launch live event similar to what sony showcases last night… perhaps they wanted to make sure this was announced before pre-orders opened up?

this is an incredible announcement, an incredible acquisition, probably the biggest flex in this history of video games… or entertainment in general, the clippers and Mets were both sold recently for 2-2.5b each, this dwarfs that.

… but just imagine how much more impactful this announcement could have been if not for COVID-19? imagine the one more thing at a pre-launch event announcing this and then running b-roll of enhanced Bethesda cames capping off with a gameplay reveal of starfield or something along those lines.

Again, I don’t want to minimize how impactful this really is, it has been almost two hours since I found out and I’m still in shock, my jaw is still dropped… how is this real!?

Lets just say, Phil has complete buy in from Satya and the board to lean all in into Game Pass. This will form the cornerstone of Microsoft’s consumer and social network.

Side note, it seemed like zenimax was one of the biggest third party studios that was cash strapped enough to take bags of money from sony to exclude people from their games… now that is not an option for sony they will have to find new ways to compete.

If we follow the current pattern, all multi platform games will come to all the platforms its being developed for. GPU is available on XBox consoles and PC, and I’m sure game will continue to release on both of these. MSFT has also released some games for Switch. Whether future games will come to PS, we’ll need to see. But I believe it will, however, if you are subscribed to GP/U, then you get to play “free” or $70 dollar on other platforms. This removes any and all argument that XBOX has no game, and will big games releasing almost every month on GP, means I’ll be staying subbed.

Another reason why zenimax games will be exclusive to xbox is because its a bigger incentive for gamepass, having these game day 1 in gamepass is a great incentive but having that and also having xbox,Pc and xcloud the only places to play these games is an even bigger incentive.

E.g A ps4 gamer who loves doom, elder scrolls , fallout etc may still stick with PS5, but if those games were not available on playstation, gamepass would be a no brainer for this gamer.

Sony - Deathloop being a year exclusive

Microsoft - Yes!

Unbelievable. I knew they were trying to do this.

Price went up? Shouldn’t this just mean it’s not going to happen at all ? It’s a MS company now.

Karma is a bitch …
