I saw people making this out to be that they are staying multiplatform. I’d say he could mean PC/Xbox console/Mobile with xCloud. Massive reach, still, without PS5.

I dont know if keeping the games multiplatform would make sense, I guess they would get the benefit of having the games day 1 on gamepass and additional profit from PS4/PS5 game sales. But at that point why wouldn’t they publish all there games on sony platforms too?

If you’re on console + pc + mobile you already have 90% of the market. I don’t think developing for PS5 is worth it. But I guess it will depend on the game. Maybe some will come later. Soll will stay. Some won’t

Seeing a lot of people thinking they’ll keep their games multiplatform but I really don’t see this happening. After they’ve done working on current projects I think it’ll be Xbox/PC.

Honestly, it would not suprised me if Amazon or Google were also considering buying them. I see that more as a move against Amazon or Google, and definitely also an added value for xCloud.

Folks, the games will most likely remain multiplatform, MS isn’t really doing this for exclusivity. This is for Game Pass, and GP is more about “Play all of these games here for a low cost subscription or pay $60-$70 each on the other platform”

Basically the games being on other platforms advertise for Game Pass and GP advertises for games on the other platforms. MS gets subscription revenue and game sales revenue.

Indeed, that is a move beyond console gaming. This isn’t even something with Sony in mind. This is the ground work for the battle with Google and Amazon and their ambitions in the gaming sector.

Yes, games in 2021 I think makes sense but games after that like elder scrolls, starfield and other future games should be xbox exclusive, helping the sony ecosystem does not make sense for Microsoft, they want to expand theres. This may sound crazy but I think next next gen sony and Microsoft may team up to make one or two consoles together and there will be a playstation and xbox app.

This is absolutely wild. MS is the king of FPS and RPGs now. They have Halo, Doom, Wolfenstein, and Quake under one roof.

Microsoft’s moves recently with Xbox have been firmly in the pro consumer camp. Making games that have previously been announced for other platforms into exclusives is definitely not pro consumer.

All that said this is a very exciting announcement. I hope Arkane in particular get the funding to continue making their kind of games. The Dishonored series is one of my favourite ever.

I understand but Sony wouldnt do it if the shoe was on the other foot. Microsoft needs to do what they need to for market share. Cant be nice now imo

They can always release games 2 years later on the PlayStation. I think that’s fair. Focus on Xbox consoles and pc now.

some folks are crying on twitter how this makes Microsoft the Disney of gaming. I’m like what? They lacked the first party presence for two generations straight while Sony was investing in more and more, and the one time they do this kind of a deal with one publisher, suddenly they’re the bane of the industry and will lead to monopolization.

If they become known as THE place for Doom, The Elder Scrolls etc people will for sure get a Xbox or PC. People that always preferred console will absolutely get an Xbox then.

I have no idea wherein more profits for MS would lie, a hefty cut of the PS5 copies or all the extra Xbox/GP owners.

I am really glad this move happened with Microsoft than Sony. I believe microsoft is perfecwt because their games will all be on PC and I also dont think Microsoft will deprive Sony of any big games either.
