Microsoft Acquiring Zenimax/Bethesda

tbh I am completely fine with f2p games actually going free on xbox as well, just like PS, but that compounds with the fact that Series S exists and a cheaper next gen console that can play the same F2P games for free instead of spending more to get PS5 can be a decision maker for a lot of casuals who just play those fortnites, warzones, etc.

I am still shocked.

I want nothing but to spend my afternoon seeing the reaction on the web. The memes have been pure gold.

If this move is truly about gamepass than Microsoft shouldn’t release Bethesda games on Ps5. Force them to play in the Xbox ecosystem either through pc on Xbox which would push more people to gamepass.

Amazon and wallmart have not ruined the retail industry nor has google ruined the internet search industry.

I’m still shook from the announcement. This was the biggest gaming announcement in history.

Also I don’t think the train stops here, as Xbox continues to get more game pass subscribers, they will invest into more studios.

We don’t even know what the next project is from Initative, InExile, and compulsion games.

Do we know how many of those are XL gold convertees at $3 for 3 years? I know not all would be, but it would be naïve to think that’s not a factor. Essentially MS giving away GP to XL gold subscribers. I don’t see how it’s good business, but I’m not a businessman.

Wow, so they really drop the mic this time, intentionnaly !

I just can’t process what it means for us. Did we won next gen by default ? Did gamepass became the best deal in gaming ? I don’t know, I’m too excited !

It doesn’t matter, Xbox has locked these people into the ecosystem and if they continue to pump out AAA games, those customers will continue to pay a monthly fee.

Netflix did the same thing, they grew exponentially by letting anyone with a subscription share their username/password without any restrictions on concurrent viewers. As soon Netflix got people hooked, they limited only to 2-4 screens. Most people converted because they were already hooked on the content.

Network effects is an effective way to scale, Xbox is doing just that. Do you think casual people will go back to paying $70-80 a game when they become used to downloading quality games for just one low monthly price?

I for sure as hell won’t go back to buying games at full price unless its Cyberpunk/GTA/RDR. In addition, if people do want to buy those Game Pass games, they get 20% off so it still caters to that audience.

Microsoft hit a home run with Game Pass.

Ok, now I will patiently wait for the Skyrim Series X/S enhancement that gives me more than 5 gigs for mods. Make it happen Microsoft.

Also those $3 for 3 years people will have a big incentive to upgrade to new Xbox hardware in 1-2 years.

I haven’t touched Skyrim since the 360 (other than tinkering with PC mods that looked fabulous but ran the game like a slide show!). I’d be down for mods that bring that fidelity up. Same for Fallout 3 and NV. Haven’t played 4 yet. I’m hoping Dishonored and Wolfenstein get some X/S mod or enhancement love. Those games are a rare set that bug out my eyes trying to play. I think better fidelity, motion blur, and especially frame rate bumps would help.

It is fair to say that it is a much bigger acquisition than what WB Games’ would have been, right?
