Last Call: Nintendo Switch 2 Hope/Expectations

The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct was pretty good overall but man, a few of their decisions, mainly pricing makes absolutely no sense. Are they trying to kill off the Switch 2? lol

  • Welcome Tour should be the free pack in game. No bundles.
  • Adding Gamecube games to Nintendo Online adds value to it somewhat but I still don’t understand why Nintendo is so reluctant to bring back Virtual Console. All of those games would easily sell and make Nintendo way more money than adding them to the Online aspect would.
  • Charging for upgrades ($10) is fine but having two tiers for it is ridiculous. Nintendo should have made their own games upgraded for free if you already own them. Give your fan base a freaking break.
  • Games being $80 digitally and $90 physically is insane for so many reasons. Nintendo should have made them $70 either way instead of separate pricing.
  • Outside of Metroid Prime 4, there’s nothing of interest for me personally and as of now, no upgrades for Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario RPG or Mario & Rabbids: Sparks of Hope which are the only Switch 1 games I care about playing.

It’s amazing how Nintendo can take what should be an easy slam dunk and yet, the ball bounces off the back of the rim and out. lol

I for one will be taking a wait and see approach.

On a related side note - im really hoping that Microsoft can pull off getting Steam/Epic on their next generation Xbox console because this alone will allow me to only need one main console and if I don’t bother with Nintendo, I will literally be a one console only owner which I haven’t done since NES as a kid. lol

I got DS2 final boss game over screen vibe seeing those prices…

3 year old Kirby game getting a $20 price increase is super normal and fair. That specific game does it for me. It’ll get worse before it gets better. I’m out for the Switch 2.

That one is more or less fine, though Death Stranding did it better. Zelda, why….

After MH Wilds was announced today, I was planning to do that with the S2 and just be Nintendo only for the rest of my time on earth… Back to the drawing board.

We still have no price for the upgrade packs for Switch games?

Not yet. Just their games.

I don’t agree on the virtual console. If having VC made them more money that is what they would be doing. They have 10s of millions of people paying them a yearly sub that provides a bare minimum value.

and weird Japanese only released games would never be on VC or no one would buy them. Same with the likes of RC Pro Am etc. people might say they would but they wouldn’t buy them. As you say, they have the data.

I’d rather appreciate them for a time and move along.

Mario Kart bundle already sold out at one of the game stores here. The bundle tbh price wise isn’t too bad. If anything I would go for that but by the time I can get one it’s probably gone forever. And I don’t feel like paying 470 euros for console + 90 or 80 euros for the game…not at all.

Sold out? It’s not on sale unless retailer do it themselves with whatever method.

Some European retailers put them up for pre-order already.

I didn’t expect it so soon, but Brad Sam’s has posted his thoughts.

What an absolutely horrible clickbait title, “Xbox Should Thank Nintendo. Nintendo Will Save GamePass”. There’s a reason I stopped giving any attention to their video channel.

They may know how many they are being allocated. Or making an educated guess. Or making it up as they go.

Man, seeing side-by-side with switch 1 and 2 game case, it seems like Nintendo doesn’t know how to differentiate from each other, so they sacrifice the artwork space for a bar.

I shouldn’t be surprised.

A “great” way to force people’s hand to get it asap.

Pricing wise it seems classic Nintendo, who still seem to work the way consoles did 20 years ago.

Console not overly expensive, but subsidised by high game prices and loads of peripherals (including Amiibos) - the camera and spare controllers for Mario Kart etc but also no doubt they’ll do a new Fit controller etc.

A mate with a Switch bought nearly every thing they offered (kids + Covid lockdowns) from Fit to the Mario Kart real life thing and most of it is in a cupboard never used anymore after a few intense weeks…

So the verge is doing so speculation on the cost because of the new tariffs in the US.
